Peppermint pop quiz

Have you heard of Smencils? They’re eco-friendly pencils made from recycled newspaper, and they’re infused with various scents (but in a non-toxic way, unlike the smelly-markers we all grew up with). My kids’ old elementary school use to sell them as a fundraiser for $1/apiece. That means the very cheapest you can generally buy them is $.50/apiece, or $25 for a bucket of 50.

Right now, Amazon has a bucket of 50 peppermint Smencils available for just $18.99 shipped when you purchase them directly from Amazon. (You may need to check the “More Buying Choices” column on the product page to select Amazon as the seller and nab that price.)

They won’t ship for several weeks, but who cares? You can use them as a holiday-time fundraiser at your school, or just do what I’m going to do—stuff stockings, surprise the kids’ friends with a little something, etc. I’ve yet to meet the kid who doesn’t go completely berserk over these things, and I’m a sucker for peppermint when the holidays roll around.

  1. FAB! Thanks so much!

  2. Hooray for pencils in the goodie bag (kindergartener with a November birthday)!

  3. Thanks for that! I love those things, too, and they are a perfect holiday gift!

  4. Whoa, thanks for the tip! (Oh har har, pencil tip…)

  5. All right! I’ve never heard of these before, but my 1st grader LOVES Mr. Sketch smelly markers, and I’m guessing he’ll be thrilled to share these as his birthday treat at school this winter. A no food rule for treats requires extra ingenuity for parents!

  6. Oh man, looks like they are all gone (although it is late at night, so my fault). Let me know if you come across this deal again.
