It’s gonna be a Lego day

I totally forgive Amazon for giving me a heart attack* this morning, and here is why: Today all of the Toys & Games options in their Countdown to Black Friday Lightning Deals will be Lego sets. And you know how I feel about Lego.

How deep will the deals be? I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but there’s going to be nine deals today—one every hour—starting in about 15 minutes.

* There was a bleary, pre-coffee moment when I looked at the Amazon home page and saw the countdown was at 6 days and change and thought oh dear Lord I lost a week somewhere! in a panic, but then I realized they’re counting down to Black Friday Week, not Black Friday itself. Phew.

  1. Um — I’m not going to get anything done today….but my son is having a “Very LEGO Christmas”

    Thanks for the heads up.

  2. First deal already waitlisted. Crossing my fingers for the second deal.

  3. Wow, that Palpatine’s Shuttle went fast! But I was faster! Thanks for the heads-up!

  4. I just learned a valuable lesson! I clicked the button for waitlist on Palpatine’s Shuttle but it appeared in my cart. I thought I’d be on a waitlist and have time to call hubby to decide if we should get it. With it in my cart, I called Hubby to see if we should get if for our son. He said our son didn’t want any Lego sets this Christmas so I deleted it from my cart, then Hubby said let’s get it anyway for a surprise. My cart showed as empty, but the Palpatine Shuttle on the Lightning Deals page showed as still being in my cart for the 10 or 20 minutes you’re allowed to keep it in your cart, so I couldn’t re-add it (limit is 1 per person). I even tried logging out and back in, but it still showed in my cart. When it timed out, all were “claimed”. Hope someone else can learn from my mistake!

  5. thanks for the head’s up Mir, yes, legos and ds on our minds this year,,,,,,

  6. the waitlist comes and goes too, i hit wait list a few times and am now on the waitlist,,, so perhaps if you sit at your desk all day, you may score!

  7. I am so excited. My six-year-old has finally graduated from Duplo to regular Lego–in large part because the three-year-old is finally managing to grasp at least a few household rules about where/when/how the Lego may be strewn. I’ve been here before, with a younger brother who was Lego obsessed, so I’m mentally preparing myself for unexpected stepping on pointy things, and for dealing with my husband’s curses as he vacuums. But I think it will be a very Lego Christmas this year, plus a birthday not long after the holidays, and I’m really hoping one or more of these deals will hit our sweet spot of price + age appropriateness.

  8. The latest lightning deal was 100% claimed and on waitlist status ONE MINUTE after the deal became available. One minute! That is craziness!

  9. I just tried to purchase the LEGO airport set. Made sure I was at the computer, on the proper screen, a minute before the thing was supposed to come up. Clicked purchase 5 SECONDS after 3:00p.m., and I am #482 on the wait list…WTF??? What, do they have like 2 of them in stock? Sorry, I’m venting…not worth my time to mess with this stuff if that’s the way it works…

  11. Oh my gosh, Kim, exactly the same story here on the airport–and #481 on waiting list! I am very curious about how this process works, because I did actually end up getting the airport. In case it helps for future Lightning Deal shopping, here’s what I did. Every time my waiting list status would expire, I’d be asked if I wanted to stay on the waiting list, and I said I did. Lo and behold, about 30-40 minutes later, the airport showed up in my cart.
