I don’t really know what a Skylander is

Somehow my kids have missed the Skylanders craze, for which I am extremely grateful. (We already have a zillion Wii games and all they ever really play is Legend of Zelda or Mario Kart, anymore.) So I can’t tell you much about it or why it’s such a big deal or why you need little figure dudes to play it… but I can tell you that today’s Amazon Gold Box holds a bunch of Skylanders Giants deals, including the starter kit for just $29 (its lowest price ever).

Is this a good thing? Maybe that depends on how much gaming you’re comfortable with your kids doing. But it’s definitely a cheap thing, so let’s assume it’s kind of good.

  1. It’s a good deal if you don’t own (most) of them already, and don’t think about the fact that new style of interchangeable ones are coming out in the fall.

  2. Greatest marketing ploy ever….”hey, what if we made a game that wouldn’t let you earn better characters and weapons but made parents buy them”. Let’s do it. *Sigh* and now to browse the selection.

    • We were never the parents to get the “it” toy until we unwittingly allowed our son to buy himself the Skylanders game. I agree. Greatest marketing ploy ever! Someone is laughing his/her way to the bank.

  3. I agree, it is a marketing ploy. But my son loves this game. And before Christmas last year I found skylander figures for 2.99 so was able to build his skylander library fairly cheap. Gamestop also has some characters 50-70% off
