As a red-blooded American female who likes to bake things I shouldn’t be eating, I of course possess a deep and abiding lust towards KitchenAid stand mixers. Someday I shall have one, my pretties. Someday. (Translation: Someday the inferior stand mixer which my husband brought to this marriage will die, and then I can buy one.)
If I was hesitating due to price alone, I’d probably be sorely tempted by this 9-speed KitchenAid hand mixer, instead. It’s marked down to just $39.99 (68% off). There’s no picture, but the mixer looks like this except in this color.
Unfortunately, I have a working hand mixer, too. Darnit.
Oh, the KitchenAid stand mixer is great, I love mine. I want to add the pasta maker attachment and been looking for a decent deal on this for years, but no luck yet.
Ahhh, The Kitchenaid stand mixer. I have been coveting one for many years. With a small kitchen and, lately, an even smaller budget I have been forced to take care of my xmas baking needs with my little $15 GE hand mixer.
But wait, the best part?
My 40th birthday was Dec 11 and My mom just called to tell me she was sending me a gift card to go and get the Kitchenaid stand mixer of my dreams. OMG I can’t wait.
It figures I’d get it AFTER the holiday treat bake-a-thon.
Oh well, better late than never. And now I can practice for next year.
I, too, lusted over a KA mixer and thought that it should have been the only thing on my wedding gift list. Well, my sister purchased a newer, bigger one and gifted me hers that she had received shortly after she was married in 1980. She gave me mine about 4-5 years ago. The machine has worked flawlessly! I love it!
Now, she gave me hers b/c she wanted the commercial 6 qt (or whatever the biggest size is). She has told me multiple times that the one she gave me works far better. She has had to have her new one replaced at least 3 times, if not 4 in the short time that she has had it. The one I have was made in the good ole USA – not sure if the new ones are made in China, but that would explain the quality issue.
I don’t know if the regular size mixer have these issues or not. I will say that customer service has always been really good to her.
Oh Mir, hold out for the stand mixer. I denied myself for years but finally broke down and bought one from Amazon right after Thanksgiving this year. I found one for $199 with a $20 rebate. I love it – really, really love it. It is wonderful. I want to go home and mix things right now.
I know Kitchen Aid is often considered the Holy Grail of mixers but I swear by my “BOSCH” it is pricey but unbelievably powerful- I wouldn’t go back.
Um, I hate to say this, but KitchenAids aren’t made as well as they used to be, I’ve heard. Something about parts being plastic instead of metal inside that pretty case.
I have a dead 6 qt KitchenAid that I loved until it burned its motor out in a blaze of (smoking) glory while kneading bread unattended (don’t do that). Now I’m making do with one of the KitchenAid hand mixers. It works just fine– but I miss the Big Mutha.
However, I may be looking at other brands before I fork out the big bucks to repair or replace it.
fuzzy-
that is exactly what happened to my sister’s 6 qt -the motor burned out twice and then the lever thing that lifts the bowl up broke -she said it was plastic.
I’d call KA though – she’s always been able to get hers replaced for free.
Hello! This hand mixer is worth every penny of forty or fifty dollars. I got mine one Christmas about 6 or 7 years back when my cheapie burnt out on royal icing I had to have for the children’s group project the next morning. It’s been a reliable angel through many batches of tough stuff since then…I was holding out for the stand mixer at the time but this little guy has made the wait much more sufferable.
