Is that a remote in your pocket. . .

… or—well, you know the rest.

I don’t understand the lure of fancy remote controls, but then again, I’m coming up on three years of (re)marriage and to be honest, I still don’t know how to use my husband’s stereo. I’m just sayin’.

If you or the gadget-head in your life have fifty seven different remote controls, apparently today’s Amazon Gold Box deal of a refurbished Logitech Harmony 890 for $100 is a great deal.

I think that for $100 it should also fetch you coffee, but I’m assured by those geekier than me that it’s quite marvelous even without that functionality.

  1. We have one of those and it is a waste of money. We never use it and it eats through batteries like CRAZY! It will control “most” of your stuff but why bother when usually we only need the one remote anyway.

  2. We have one and love it. No problems with battery life for ours, though. My husband found some deal on it a while back, so it didn’t cost us that much. But it means only one remote, and controls the tv, cable, wii, xbox, dvd, and movies on our home network. I’d highly recommend it, assuming you have a geek on hand to make it work.

  3. We have a slightly different model and have no problems with the battery life either. It is the best thing I ever bought (I could never figure out the right combination of things to turn on to watch a movie). Now, the Harmony does it for me! 🙂

  4. We love our Logitech too- no probs with battery life on ours. It makes life so much easier. We went from 5 remotes to one- harmony at last! I used to have to print out a two page sheet on how to use the TV any time the babysitter came over. Now all she has to do is push the ‘Watch TV’ button. Ours was closer to $200, so that is a good deal.
