Robot Jones made me post this

I don’t know if you remember that my kids named my Scheduler Roomba “Robot Jones.” Chris, an awesome Want Not reader, took it upon himself to send me his Roomba Red after he decided that it was not up to the task of vanquishing the hairballs his cat was leaving around. The children immediately named the Red “Robot Jane,” and I thought that Robot Jones had found his girlfriend.

The problem is, Robot Jane lives on the second floor. Robot Jones lives on the first floor, and informs me that he’s still lonely.

I don’t know if this is a price mistake or just an insane deal, but Buy.com is selling the Scooba 5900 for just $209.99 with free shipping. (It typically goes for over $300 at Amazon.) This is actually less than $12 off of Buy.com’s regular price for it, which is (obviously) significantly lower than Amazon’s price. And if you really want a laugh, go look it up on the iRobot site.

I’m not saying you should run out and buy one on a whim. But if you’ve been pricing them, this is the deal to grab.

[Robot Jones is a little miffed that I’m not getting one, but when I asked him how much money he’d be contributing, all he offered me was a dust bunny from underneath the couch. So.]

  1. Mir, isn’t this site supposed to SAVE me money, and not lure me into dropping hundreds of dollars without leaving my chair? It’s not even lunchtime yet. Goodness.

Needless to say, I am quite tempted, and must go read the reviews of this thing. I bought a Roomba Red for my mom for Christmas last year, and she’s still going strong.

There was a very funny article in the Washington Post right after Christmas about how the Roomba was a hot gift for Christmas, and how everyone names theirs. Roomba officials report that the most popular name is Rosie. Which is exactly what we named my mom’s. I am shamed by our lack of creativity.

Perhaps I need to buy a Scooba just to have a second chance to give a robot a cool name.

  2. My Scheduler is Will Smith and my Scooba is Jada P. Twu Wuv. I got a pretty good deal going to Linens and Things when they had Scooba on sale and I used the ubiquitous 20% off coupon. I think I paid about $215.

  3. Sam’s Club had a Scooba deal of $198. I bought one, BUT then I discovered that you CANNOT use Scooba on Pergo flooring. I was crushed. FYI. Don’t bother if you have Pergo type flooring in your home.

  4. We call our Roomba “Scooter”.

  5. My mom calls hers Ruby but my 22 month old nephew calls it womb-bob. By the way I got a great deal on it for Christmas, thanks to you!

  6. I will not have my former Roomba involved in an illicit Roomba-Scooba-Roomba love triangle. She’s not that kind of girl.

I have an image of her listening to Jennifer Hudson sing “And I Am Telling You, I’m Not Going” from the Dreamgirls soundtrack, weeping little robot tears.

Send her back if you’re just going to break her heart!

    😉

  7. These comments are great! My family calls our Roomba , lovingly of course, “the boss.” I go back to work and the Roomba pushes its way to the top spot in a matter of weeks, as is hired boss. Our felines on the other hand, named it “the enemy!” I need to get one of those Scoobas.
