Stock up for the kids today

I never feel so bitter about my kids growing up as I do when Children’s Place has a huge sale. Like, whyyyyyyyy must I have adult-sized children whose clothing costs as much as mine?? I miss the days of $2 t-shirts and big stock-up sales where I literally bought “one in every color” of anything they liked because it was so cheap.

Little kids are cheap, y’all. I know, you think they’re expensive with their diapers and everything. But then they grow up and want computers and cars and college. And that’s aside from clothing that suddenly costs a whole lot more. (Clearly the issue here is the letter c. I need to do more research into this issue.)

Anyway, if your kids are still small, get on over there—everything is at least 50% off, with clearance as much as 75% off. Every order ships for free, and you’ll earn $10 Place Cash for every $20 you spend. (Not that you’ll need to come back and spend that, because you’ll already have one in every color thanks to today’s sale….) Also, did you know they have matching family jammies, including adult sizes?? They do. Go. Enjoy. Don’t worry about me, sitting over here all bitter.

PBS gifts are always in style (and now on sale)

Hello, my name is Mir, and I am a public broadcasting nerd. Yep. Sorry, not sorry.

Not only does the Shop PBS Store have all of the DVDs and Blu-rays of your favorite shows—as you’d expect—they have so much more, you could knock out a ton of gifts there right now, I bet. What’s even better is that today (Tuesday, December 5th) only, you can use coupon code FLASH for an extra 20% off and free shipping on everything. Mugs! Books! Clothing! Ornaments! Everything, really.

I’ll take the green “PBS Nerd” shirt, please and thank you.

A quick word of caution about gift cards

If you read no other article about consumer pitfalls this year, read this piece from Bob Sullivan about gift cards. Bottom line: these cards are increasingly attracting hackers, and your protections as a consumer are not guaranteed.

This is why I prefer to give Amazon certificates to folks, either via print-at-home or e-gift. Recipients can add the funds to their accounts right away, and then if by some miracle the thing they want/need isn’t available on Amazon itself, they can buy a gift card there (and then it’s their problem to deal with…) for use elsewhere. Easy-peasy.

Ho ho ho, merrrrrrry Beauty Box!

I’m so wrapped up in holiday prep (and play rehearsals! hello, have you seen my brain? I think I left it at the theater…) I forgot to check for Target Beauty Boxes! I apologize. But they’re not sold out yet, so I think I’m safe.

There’s two versions this month, one for women and a different one for men. You know I love a good rant against gender norms, but the female version has sparkly nails and a Rimmel mascara I’ve been meaning to try, while the guys get Axe and hair pomade and emergency clean-up cloths, and, well, I think it’s okay.

You know the drill: Each is just $7 with free shipping, and the ladies get a $3 off $15+ Beauty coupon and the men get a $3 off $15+ Personal Care coupon. You should have them in time to use ’em as stocking stuffers, too.

Did you miss all the outerwear deals? Never fear!

It doesn’t happen anymore, but when my kids were little I swear they would wait for every sale on a given item to pass before having a growth spurt. Every time. I’d be sitting there all smug in December that I’d finally made sure everyone had snow pants and boots and whatever before school even started (okay, this was before we lived in the south…) and then a week before Christmas, the parkas would magically shrink, or a child would come home with just one boot. That wasn’t just us, right?

Sales will keep coming and going, but if you have a small-ish human in your home who needs a new coat or other items, or if you just realized you, yourself, need a pair of boots of a jacket warmer than that hoodie you’ve been wearing all fall (oh, wait, that was me in the hoodie), today (Monday, December 4th) would be a good time to check out Lands’ End—you can use coupon code WARMTH with PIN 3216 for 50% off your entire order! (Note: this code works only on full-price items, so this is not a good time to clean up on additional clearance savings, but if you’ve had your eye on a new parka, this is absolutely a good time to grab that.)

Shipping is free on your $50+ order, which is calculated after any coupon savings (boo). Don’t forget that you can return Lands’ End merchandise for free at your local Sears, soooo… I’m not telling you what to do, of course, but maybe you want to order something in two different sizes and return the one you don’t want in-store, and maybe that gets you free shipping along the way. Just sayin’.

Card games for the twisted

If you’re easily offended, please skip this post.

Okay, so if you’re a fan of The Oatmeal, you were probably excited when Exploding Kittens came out, because it’s a fun party game that makes close to no sense, plus the illustrations are delightful. But if you have a dirty mind, even better is the NSFW Exploding Kittens Deck, because it’s just ridiculous and bawdy and even funnier. If you’re into that sort of thing. (Which I totally am.) And right now the NSFW deck is just $16 at Amazon, its lowest price ever.

If you already have one or both versions of Exploding Kittens, well, have you seen Bears vs. Babies? It’s the latest from the same folks, and it, too, is at its lowest price ever right now—just $21. In this one you get to build weird monsters and I sort of love it.

It’s not Christmas until someone gets an inappropriate card game, y’know. Or maybe that’s just my family.

Because they haven’t had a sale in a while…

… hahahahaha, I crack myself up. Sure, Macy’s hasn’t had a sale in forever, amirite? Like, not since last week! Hahaha! (I know, old joke. Never stops being funny, though.)

Anyway—be that as it may—it’s somehow times for the Friends & Family sale, which means an extra up-to-30% off just about everything with coupon code FRIEND. And of course that’s on top of everything that’s already on sale.

Need a few more just-because or thank-you or happy-holidays-but-I-don’t-know-what-you-like gifts? Check out their Frango Chocolates offerings. Boxes start around about $6 after coupon, although the larger boxes are obviously the best value. My only problem here is that they don’t offer mixed boxes. I mean, I love sea salt caramels, but I also love the dark chocolate raspberry, so how am I supposed to… oh. Right. I was supposed to be buying them as gifts, not for myself. I remember, now.

Shipping is free on your $99+ order or when shopping with a Macy’s card, or add any Beauty item to your order for free shipping on the whole thing. (Pro tip: grab one of these I’m Real Face Masks for $2.55 after coupon; it’s cheaper than paying for shipping, and sheet masks make for the best selfies, anyway.)

Do kids still love K’NEX?

When my son was little he loved getting one big K’NEX set for Christmas along with his (requested) plethora of LEGO. I haven’t heard as much about the brand in recent years—maybe all the kids are too busy with video games?—but it holds a special place in my heart.

If you like to break out one extensive K’NEX set for the holidays, Amazon has this 568-piece Thrill Rides: Kraken’s Revenge Roller Coaster marked down to just $30 today (its lowest price ever).

The only way this deal could be better would be if it included an actual kraken. Preferably one that does your bidding on command. (Oh dear, I’ve said too much….)

Do a Disney gift, and make it personal

I spend the entire winter complaining that I’m cold—yes, even here in the south—so I am a big fan of the “never too many blankets” philosophy. And if you know an adult Disney nut or, really, just about any small child, what could be better than a throw that’s Disney-themed? Well, how about a throw that’s Disney-themed and personalized and over half off? Now we’re talking!

Go check out the available throws at the Disney Store, as many are already half off. Choose which one(s) you want, do “Add Personalization” before adding to your cart, and then apply coupon code DOLLARPZ to make that personalization cost just $1 and code SAVE20 for 20% off and free shipping. You’ll get a personalized throw for just $8 shipped!

And yes, the codes work on other items, too. But those throws are probably the best deal, plus I’m a little chilly, y’know.

Did I ever tell you about the year…

… when I scored a crazy deal on a Blu-ray player for my husband, back when we still just had a DVD player and Blu-rays were relatively new, and then my brother-in-law gently pointed out to me when I bragged about what I’d found that our TV didn’t support Blu-ray? That was a fun year. Because then I had to find a deal on an HDTV. I did and it worked out, but… ooops.

Why am I sharing this now? Well, for two reasons. First, to illustrate that I sometimes make dumb mistakes. And second, because the TV I ended up getting was $500 and our first HDTV and at the time it was an amazing deal. And today you can get a television way better (better picture, later technology, though the same size) for $100 less, because that’s always how it goes. I’m only a little bitter.

So! Want a great deal on a big TV? Go check out this Samsung UN50MU6300 50-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV—it’s available at Rakuten right now for $480, but apply coupon code SAMSUNG80 and it drops to just $400, and the shipping is free. That’s, like, 10 additional years of technology for $100 less than I paid. (Still only a little bitter!) For reference, this model is running about $500 or more at Amazon, currently.

Maybe you don’t need a new TV. But if you’ve been looking for a deal, this one would be hard to beat.
