Probably because of her socks

You know my feelings on the latest and greatest Elmo, and I’m also no Barbie fan, but for some inexplicable reason I just love this doll. No, I’m not going to buy it. But it’s… well… okay, I’m just going to say it: It’s cute. Really, really cute. Excutiatingly cute. Teeny-tiny Elmo faces on her socks cute.

I… can’t believe I admitted this.

I feel cheap and dirty. Get it off! Out, out damn spot!

Seriously, I start squee-ing every time I come across a picture of this thing, and I have no idea why. It’s something of a relief to put it out there in the open, but it does cause a deep pain somewhere in the vicinity of my brain that’s responsible for balancing the checkbook.

Okay, I have to go lie down for a while.

  1. Wow, that is cross-promotional genius at it’s best. Seriously, you know the person that came up with that design got a new corner office.

  2. Yeah but $50? Too rich for my wallet.

  3. LOL genius for sure!
and you are cracking me up you pretty lady! 🙂

  4. I find a doll depicting a pre-teen with an elmo t-shirt, go-go boots, and a miniskirt up to her crotch to be a very disturbing combination. Kind of like those Japanese manga cartoons of Japanese schoolgirls in uniform- ewwww. Sorry, my kid’s not getting a hypersexualized doll to play pretend with, let alone at $50 a pop-

  5. Maybe you could use the $50 from VW to buy it. (snicker, snort)

  6. It is very cute, but silly as I do not think teens are really into Elmo 😛 Is Barbie a teen or a 20-something?
    I never understand her.
I think that type of skirt is fine if’n there are shorts under it, and not a thong or something “ew”ish. I have more issue with seeing a young ones butt crack, flabby, or fab gut pooching out from below a too tight or too short t-shirt…

    Of course, I digressed…

  7. ek:

I first actually saw Elmo in 1986, in my grade 11 english class, because the girl in front of me (would have been 16 or 17) had an Elmo beanie in her backpack and she was talking with her best friend about how much she loved him because he was so cute.

Admittedly, this predates Tickle Me and Elmo’s World, and it might not be apt to those crazy kids today, but I know he was all over my high school for a while in 86/87 🙂 Claire’s has a large Elmo section, but I no longer have any idea who Claire’s is marketing to, just that they have good pirate stuff.
