A camcorder for the masses

Do you remember this deal on a Vidster? I bought one for my daughter, and she received it last month for her birthday. I’d have to say that it is probably the single greatest gift I’ve ever given her. It has provided countless hours of entertainment and it makes decent little videos.

Ever since giving it to her, I’ve been thinking about getting a camcorder for me. More to the point, I’ve been wondering why there isn’t an adult equivalent to the Vidster; something that’s compact, no-frills, easy to use and that produces usable output. It turns out that the very product for which I’ve been pining already exists: It’s called The Flip.

No, it’s not fancy or elaborate, but at just $125 and about the same size as an iPod, I’m going to say that for most of us, it’s probably plenty of functionality and a great price. Just look at those reviews, picture slipping it into your pocket, and try to tell me you’re not intrigued.

I may just need to buy myself a little wedding present.

  1. I looooove mine! I’ve had it about a year. It is so easy. Want to know the best part? Target sells them for around $99. Woo-Hoo Target!

  2. Michele: Really? Keep in mind that there are 30-minute and 60-minute versions… maybe you have the smaller storage one? (Amazon checks the price at Target so it’s not looking to me like you can get it for $99 there, unless there’s just a difference between in-store and online.)

  3. I saw a little video/digital camera in the Target ad for around $90. 6MP still camera, not sure about the video part, but I’ve been wanting one for a while.

  4. If you ever see another great deal on the Vidster, would you let us know? Thanks for all the great bargains. I just signed up for my samples of tide and airborne.
