Pop your own

My husband is a devotee of the air popcorn popper. He turns up his nose at the microwave stuff. I’ve always love the microwave stuff, but now of course the accompanying why it can kill you story is coming out.

My husband now gets to say “I told you so.” Lucky him.

Need an air popper? This Presto one is on sale and has great reviews. I’m sure next week we’ll find out why even air-popped stuff can kill us, but for now, it’s a great deal.

  1. You just TRY to get salt to stick to air-popped popcorn without drenching everything in butter. But, of course, I only like the real popped-on-the-stove popcorn.

  2. Knight is the same way, BB. I can hear his arteries slamming shut with each bite he takes.

But then, I’m not a real fan of popcorn no matter how it’s done…. years of orthodontics took care of that.

  3. I love hot air popcorn.
So much better than that microwave cancer popcorn.

  4. Here’s a story for you. In a freak accident kind of moment, I got hurt with a kernel of popcorn as a kid. My parents were using an air popper, and the kernel flew out of the machine, hitting my chest. It just happened to land pointy side in, and got stuck there, burning me. I still have a scar. I was young, six or so, and I’m still afraid of air poppers.

  5. OMG, I have a similar freak accident with a popcorn kernel! However this time it was stove popped corn. I opened the lid of the already popped popcorn and some how a hot kernel popped out – not popped, but a flying torpedo. I was about fifteen at the time. I was wearing a dress. it fell down my dress and landed in my bra, Screeching, I pulled the bra band away from my body and then it quickly landed in my belly button! I have scar between my breasts (though not really visible any more) and two scars on my belly button, one on either side of where the seed rested. I remember clawing at my dress to get the hot kernel out of my belly button! Even after gall bladder removal surgery where the cut open my belly button, I still have this scar! Too funny there’s someone else out there with similar war wounds.

Now, I used to eat popcorn all the time, but got out of the habit. In college I had a Stir Crazy popper that was GREAT!

  6. Hey Mir, you can also just pop regular popcorn in a brown paper lunch bag in the microwave…surely that’s cheaper than another appliance:)

    Thanks for all you do!

  7. Kelly,
I’ve never heard that before! I’ll have to give it a try.

  8. I have a cuisinart popper (not air) and I HATE IT. I wanted an air popper, but got the other as a gift. I just can’t bear to throw it out and buy a new one.

  9. I have a NordicWare Microwave Popcorn Popper. It’s basically a plastic bowl with lid that you can use to pop regular popcorn in the microwave. It’s under $8 on Amazon. I bought mine years ago at Sears. Works well, and then you can dump on the butter and salt and eat it right from the bowl.
