Are you all out of discount restaurant certificates? Never fear! It’s time for another Restaurant.com promotion! Simply hop on over there and use the coupon code DISCOVER to take 50% off your order through October 12th, 2008. That means you’ll get $25 worth of dining for a cool $5, which means even normal folks like us can afford to eat out again. Awesome.

And because someone always asks when I post these: Yes, it’s for real. No, it’s not a scam. I have used Restaurant.com for years with no problems. Unless you count having extra money as a problem, that is.

  1. This isn’t a scam, but there is a little catch that I wasn’t aware of the first time I bought one of these. I bought a $50 gift certificate and when I printed it, I realized I had to buy $100 to use it and it had to be used during lunch. So, we took my brother and his wife out for lunch, gorged ourselves, and had a good time.

  2. Each restaurant is allowed to set their own terms, yes. Depends on the individual establishment as to what the restrictions/minimums are.

My husband and I often buy $10 certificates for a local BBQ place, where the restriction is a $15 minimum—not hard to reach at all. 😉

  3. I can vouch for them as well! My only gripe is that, living in the Chicago ‘burbs, the certificates in my area are frequently sold out!

As Sally and Mir said, the key is to make sure to check out the restrictions at specific restaurants. One local restaurant requires that you spend $35 NOT INCLUDING drinks–even sodas. As a result, last time we had to buy a dessert to hit the $35 mark.

  4. I am soo excited about these! The restrictions are not hard to meet. Min $15 purchase on a $10 coupon and $35 purchase on a $25 coupon. They are valid for one year from purchase. Look out teachers here come your appreciation gifts, Christmas you name it!! AWSOME!

  5. We have never had a problem meeting the criteria for any restaurant we use these at! And even though I purchase their certificates, they NEVER let me in on the secret discount codes, so keep ’em coming.

  6. here’s a trick if you’re either not sure what restaurant you want to use or if the one you want is sold out: buy a generic one. then you’re not locked into just that restaurant for use. plus, if you accidently buy too many for one restaurant, you have a window of time (i think it’s 30 days, but don’t quote me on that) to transfer your certificate from that restaurant to a generic restaurant.com certificate.
