Clip ’em at home

One of the easiest ways to save money is to learn how to cut hair. It’s really not hard, I promise! Cutting boys’ and mens’ hair is particularly easy, once you have a good set of clippers. I also trim my daughter’s hair (again, not too difficult), and figure I have a few more years before she wants/needs “real” haircuts. I also find that cutting everyone else’s hair makes it a bit easier for me to part with the money I spend to get my own hair cut. Ahem.

The gold standard for clippers is Wahl, and right now Amazon is offering this deluxe Wahl clipper set for $41.40 shipped. There’s supposed to be a promotion whereby you can get $10 off a purchase of $49+, but guess what—it’s working on this set, even though it’s under the minimum. So go ahead and take $10 off with coupon code WAHLJUN9, and then there’s also an eligible $5 mail-in rebate available here.

Net result? A high-quality clipper set delivered to you for around $26, and years of savings on haircuts. Nice.

  1. Just wanted to say that we got this set through your site the last time it was on special, and I’ve been cutting my husband’s hair ever since. It was simple to learn (it helped my husband had a fair idea of what number guards he prefers), takes very little time, and we have been saving money since the second haircut. Thanks!

  2. THANK YOU!!!!

  3. I love this set – it didn’t take long to figure out what guard to use to get a nice cut and now that my son’s hair is long enough we use it on him too.

  4. My husband has been wanting a good trimmer set – he is military and cuts his hair about every 2 weeks. This is going to be a great surprise for him! Thanks!

  5. I tried to order this. The price is down to $37.55 but the coupon didn’t work. Oh well…

  6. Pam – the one that comes up is the lowest price but it isn’t via Amazon. Over on the right column, there is a list of other sellers, and Amazon is the top one. You’ll be eligible for free shipping that way, too! The coupon code works there.

Hubs has always liked going to town to get his hair cut and catch up on the gossip, but this will pay for itself in two hair cuts as his barber is raising her rates. (Yes, she’s a she.) Too bad it’ll take longer than that for me to get the hang of cutting his hair!

  7. You’re killing me. I JUST purchase a Wahl clipper last week to replace the one we’ve had for 16 years. I had looked at amazon but couldn’t fine $49 in Wahl products to spend that I actually needed. If only I had known…..

  8. Just make sure you READ the directions first. I didn’t realize you go back to front and about trimmed my 4 year old’s beautiful blond hair completely off. He was called “cue ball” for a while. Thankfully, it’s summer…a great summer do! We’re much improved now!
