The holidays are coming, believe it or not

Hello! I am not dead. I know you’re relieved. Life has been a little nutty of late. (Haha! That’s implies that sometimes life isn’t nutty. Ah, wishful thinking!)

I don’t know if you know this, but it’s already the middle of October. How did that happen? I’m starting to get organized for holiday deal-hunting and—of course—Big Prize Week. (If you’re new here, I give stuff away the week leading up to Black Friday. It’s fun! You should make sure to be here, then.)

Here’s where you can help me out: What are you looking for, this holiday season? Which items are on your must-have list or what sorts of deals would be the most appealing? The more feedback you can give me, the better (hopefully!) I can make sure I’m finding the stuff you want.

(Can you tell I’ve reached the point where all my kids want is cash…?)

  1. My kids are 6 and 8, and I’m always looking for good deals on toys. I also appreciate the household deals (food, xmas lights, dishes, etc) that you put up. And I love it whenever you find someone offering stack-able discounts on websites.

I read your blog all year, but appreciate it most this time of year. Thanks for all the hard work!

  2. Things suitable for teens/tweens. Which, um, yeah, don’t ask me for ideas, YOU are my idea person! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Legos, geek-themed anything, books, music, room decorating things, games…. anything that’s a step above traditional “toys” for little kids, but still kinda is toys. Toys for Bigger Kids. I guess?

All of the help, Mir. That’s what I need. All of the help. lol

  3. I’m asking Santa for new cordless clippers with a lithium-ion battery. My current model has a nickel-cadmium battery that barely lasts two days. I could condition the battery by letting it drain and sit empty for a couple of weeks, but I would grow a Rip van Winkle beard while doing soรขโ‚ฌยฆ

  4. I am a loser without an instant pot, because I need a Good Deal.

  5. I can only think of things for me (also an instant pot loser) because my youngest only wants more screen related items (which is the last thing he needs) and my teens don’t actually want anything except MOHR DATA. Thinking of getting an erg for the family. Middle has taken to rowing as her only sport and wants to cox’n (hello scholarships!). Would love ideas for things I can get my Junior in HS now that will be useful for college (sob).

  6. I’m always looking for Lego deals. This year my little man wants the Destiny’s Bounty from the new movie. $160 – yikes! Also, always looking for gifts for the hard to buy for people – uncles who can buy anything they want for themselves and grandparents who don’t want more “stuff” in their houses. Geeky stuff for the hubby and sons are always appreciated. Most of all, I’d love some ideas for my father – he lives in another country and shipping is OUTRAGEOUS but I have to send something! He’s always my hardest gift year after year.

  7. Nerdy teen son gifts. Hard-to-shop for hubby and brother-in-law. Stocking stuffers for all.

Suzanne….I too have far away relatives. Personalized photo calendar perhaps? Or just a calendar, which is flat and easy to ship. I always find local ones at Costco or Sam’s Club to send at great prices.

Thank you, Mir! You are amazing and we appreciate you (and have for years!)

  8. any sites that have FREE SHIPPING AND FREE RETURNS!

  9. Have a nerdy almot 10yo who loves all things math, science, and cats and isn’t really into toys. I’m an English prof, so most of his gifts are books – but he has already read so many that even my go-to gift is hard now. Based on one of your recent deal posts I placed an order at Threadless and scored some shirts. I need help as his bday is in November and finding great gifts for two occasions is stressful.

    • My nerd’s bday is right after the new year so I feel you on that! It’s party of why I shop all year; too hard to lump it all together, like that.

  10. Deals on Legos and Levis would be at the top of my list. Everyone else gets Itunes or Amazon gift certificates. ๐Ÿ™‚ I just recently joined the Instacult, so a good recipe book for Instapot?

  11. I always appreciate when you find book series deals (kids lit).

My kids are saving up for a PS4, so I’m keeping an eye out. Legos, interesting board games, cute pajamas are always appreciated.

    • Oh, and I have a mid-December and early January birthday…so it’s my main gift buying time of the year ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Nerd/electronic/game stuff, mostly. I’ve had quite a bit of success buying things I see on your site where I think “I don’t really know what that is / why it would be fun / what it’s for, but it sure looks geeky!” But I also love to buy normal rest-of-the-year stuff when it goes on good deals around the holidays.

  13. Discounts on xbox and game stop cards. Crafty kits for girly tweens. Lego sets (especially Lego Architecture).

  14. I am looking for all the nerd things in both the 5-10 year range and the ummm late 30s range. Also, LEGOs, always LEGOs.

  15. All of my kids are grown, so gifts for setting up apartments. Joint gifts are okay for couples–cappuccino machine, Instant Pot, good knives, etc.

  16. I have kids who just want money too and while I understand, it just…idk, messes with my holiday spirit. I need gift ideas as much as deals….coworkers, teenage/young adult, older adults who don’t need or want anything to clutter up the house. My daughter does picture calendars for everyone and those a HUGE hit. Last year, I won a photo blanket from your prize week that my mom absolutely adores. Oh and I would love ideas for our grandchildren (ages 7 to baby) who have every toy in the world, PLUS live five hours away.

  17. Tooooys! Especially Imaginext and (of course) Lego!

  18. It seems like I’m always buying small appliances like Crockpots, toasters, etc for presents. I’m also keeping an eye out for a good deal on a new gas oven for my parents.

  19. All mine currently wants is all things BTS (including the boys themselves) so . . ha! Though if I see stuff suitable for grownups, I haven’t anything for my siblings or parents yet.

  20. Like others, I have boy teen/pre-teen, so looking for things for them, including Legos, tech type/building things…And then I have 6 & 7 year olds….so more Legos, building things (but on a smaller level?)… games for the family would be another cool thing. Maybe a good tool deal for my husband? (I have no idea, I need to get focused on my listing/ideas!!!)

  21. Toys for the 5-10 set, especially science oriented. My five year old son got a basic science kit for Christmas last year and now wants to be a real scientist with a microscope, telescope, etc.

  22. What about gifts for grandparents who really don’t need anything? Suggestions happily accepted.

  23. My tween daughter loves everything MAKEUP. So for her, makeup, nails, spa, brushes, etc. Hubs is a gadget geek, so android, and anything super new. For me, I’m into the makeup too. Also, house stuff!

  24. My godson is looking for star wars legos. I’m looking for kitchen fun stuff for the family. Thanks Mir for all you do. My kid is in the cash only, 20 somethings age. No fun!!

  25. Adult female winter coat, gloves, socks for my first year college student. She is now living in the cold North. She hates buses and prides herself in her ability to get from dorm to any class in under 15 mins without using a bus.

I think the cold weather might surprise her. She has in class that goes until after sunset and her good friend is a 17 minute walk away.

  26. I’m hunting a new vacuum for myself. Gifts for men (teen through grandpa) and co-workers are my biggest challenge.

  27. Everything Swistle said. Also, we are travelling right after Christmas this year, so any kind of portable fun that they won’t have to leave at home would be great.Maybe I just need to go with Amazon/iTunes gift cards, but that seems so…eh.

  28. I have a senior in high school. We’re planning on upgrading her computer before she heads off to college. So it looks like I need a good deal on a MacBook Air… that way maybe I won’t have to sell a kidney to afford it! Also, any ideas/advice on things that a college freshman will need.

  29. I’m looking for a few things specifically:

    1. Record player with good reviews and changeable needle
    2. Instant Pot
    3. Board games
    4. Eureka, complete series (for a good price, of course)

There are probably other things I’m looking for, but I can’t think of them off the top of my head. ๐Ÿ™

  30. Well, since you are asking… I really am a terrible shopper and can use all the help I can get! You are so helpful, and also so pretty!

Good deals on kids shoes – like that Stride Right deal I missed a little while back. Would love to spend $20ish on decent shoes for my 5 and 3 year olds.

I work remotely so need to send coworkers holiday gifts. Free shipping and also good ideas for coworker gifts.

    Maybe Lego Advent calendars.

An elf to help me strike the right balance between magical excitement under the tree without it being a bunch of mass produced STUFF while keeping my own stress level low. I love consumable and experience gifts, or unique and hand made. I want to use my money and my time wisely.

You know, that and world peace. Any help you can provide is appreciated. ๐Ÿ™‚

  31. Emergency preparedness (things like phone charging bricks and things for 72 hour kits), thins for adult children in college, adult coloring books.
