Also, he’s a photographer, so while I was busy looking at video games (I am definitely not the adult in this relationship), he was scouting camera deals for me. Er, I mean, for you.
Here’s three high-end point-and-shoots he recommends, at great prices:
The Nikon Coolpix P7000 is currently just $279 at Amazon (a good $120 cheaper than anywhere else). The husband says, “This is a top-of-the-line point and shoot with full manual controls and the ability to access the Nikon flash system.”
The Canon PowerShot S95 is currently just $289 at Amazon ($30 cheaper than elsewhere before the bonus items), and there’s a promotion to get a free mini-HDMI cable and 4GB SDHC card with it, too. The husband says, “That’s one generation back, new S100 came out a few months ago. Great image quality, highly customizable and really small.”
And finally, the Canon G12 is currently just $380 at Amazon with the same bonus items as the other Canon (that’s about $50 off elsewhere before bonus items), and this is the highest-rated camera of the bunch. The husband says, “This is their top-of-the-line point and shoot. Again, everything from full manual to fully automatic and access to Canon’s flash system.”

I have owned and used the G2, G9 and G10 cameras – all of them were excellent and very durable. And I’ve been lusting after that S95 for more than a year … but my swell-ness rating would plummet if I bought one, I think.

any advice on less expensive point and shoots? I’d like to get my 9 yr old a decent digital, nothing fancy, something to get his feet wet. I have an inexpensive Canon powershot that I like a lot, so was thinking of going that route
