Automate your iced tea

Personally, I don’t find iced tea all that complicated, or anything. Certainly I don’t feel the need for a dedicated device to make it for me—I boil water, steep the tea, and then add more water and put it in the fridge. It’s not rocket science.

Still, I can’t help noticing that this Hamilton Beach electric ice tea maker isn’t just at an all-time-low Amazon price of just $15.85, it has nearly 400 overwhelmingly positive reviews. Either tea is more complicated than I think, or I’m really missing out.

Or—third option—people are really lazy. That could be it, too. But hey, a full pitcher of tea in under 10 minutes. Maybe this is perfect In Case of Iced Tea Emergency!

  1. As a born and bred Southerner, these machines make me absolutely cringe. I’ve been making tea since I was old enough to put my mother’s two quart orange saucepan on the front burner and open the Lipton box.

  2. Maybe it was a one quart saucepan. Things look bigger when you’re little.

Great. Now I’m going to spend the day wondering about that stupid orange pan.

  3. I got an ice tea maker for a wedding gift 20 years ago and I still use it today! Yeah, I could boil water and make it myself – I do every day for my hot tea, but I really like using the ice tea maker for a pitcher of the cold stuff. Go figure!
