The silverware standard

I’ll confess my bias right up front: I grew up in New York, not far from Oneida, and therefore I have been raised to believe that Oneida is the One True Flatware. I mean, I’m sure there are other brands that are fine, too. Except that they’re not Oneida.

Of course, Oneida doesn’t come cheap… most of the time. But right now on the Oneida website you can shop their 18/0 service for 12 flatware sets, some of which are already marked 70% off. (I’m having trouble linking directly. Search on 18/0 or go to the sale section and click on “Hot Buy! Casual Flatware 65pc sets” in the sidebar to find the deep discounts.) Then add coupon code JL10 for an additional $10 off and free shipping, too.

Site is running a bit slow with the sale, but perseverance pays off if you really want some nice silverware at a discount price.

  1. I grew up using Oneida flatware that my mother purchased with Green Stamps when I was a baby. That stuff lasted through four kids and is still going strong! I also have Oneida flatware in my kitchen drawer :). I love it! It comes in tons of patterns, so there’s sure to be something for everyone’s taste. Did I sound like a commercial there?
Just sayin, it’s good stuff 🙂

  2. I’m going to have to check it out. I’m finding that an 8-pc (per utensil) set just isn’t big enough these days with the kids actually eating their meals with utensils! Without running the dishwasher more often or hand washing the flatware, we’re running out before we’re ready to wash.

  3. Totally off topic – just wanted to thank you for posting the stroller deal from Target last week. I got my stroller last Friday and it’s AWESOME!!! Exactly what I was looking for and my son loves it. My husband still can’t believe I got a $90 stroller for $36!

  4. Pretty, pretty Mir! Thank you. I have been wanting (not needing) new silverware since we are using double-hand-me-down stuff that is serviceable but not complete. Not even my frugal (but wonderfully sweet) husband can balk at a new set now.

  5. Another native NY-er here… you’re right, it is the one true flatware. We have the Mooncrest pattern at my house. Classic, sturdy and durable.

  6. Wooo-hoo!!! The pattern that I’ve been watching for MONTHS was marked down to $68.99. You are just flat-out GORGEOUS today, Mir!

  7. Woo-hoo! I just found out my pattern (received as a wedding gift years ago) is guaranteed to be around forever! I could sure use a few more teaspoons and forks. And a bigger dishwasher, but Oneida doesn’t sell those.

  8. I just ordered a new set. I haven’t bought flatware in 20 years and mine (WMF) has been discontinued. I was thrilled to find some funky modern flatware at a gorgeous price AND the coupon worked for an extra $10 off and free shipping. I’m so excited. (I know, I know, I should get a life.)

  9. It is, it is the One True Flatware! Did you used to go to the Oneida Factory Outlet store and dig in the big bins of mismatched flatware? It was a true treasure hunt! My cousins near Reading, PA had acres of outlets with no tax on clothing, but we, we had the Factory Outlet store in Sherrill!

  10. “The promo code “JL10″ is not active at this time.”
    🙁

  11. It doesn’t like the promo code anymore. :^(
