I’m not dead! And here’s some good clearance

Sorry for that absence, there. One of those delightful stomach viruses came to visit our home, so you understand that I had to lay around wishing for my own death for a few days, then tend to my offspring, then burn the house down. You know how it goes.

Anyway! Things are much better now. So much better, in fact, that I’m busy shopping over at Nordstrom Rack, where the plentiful clearance has, in some cases, gone to as much as 90% off. This is my favorite place to shop for lingerie without having to sell my kids to pay for it, by the way.

Anyway, tons of deals to be had. Free shipping on $100+, or a flat $7.95, otherwise. (You know I hate paying for shipping, but the savings here are so good I let it slide.) Happy shopping, and no worries—I wiped this post down with Lysol wipes.

My kid’s favorite mall store does extra clearance

I’m not quite sure how to feel about Aeropostale, because on the one hand, it’s my daughter’s favorite, and not nearly as hoochie as some other options, but on the other, they do seem to offer quite a few questionable items. (Skin tight? Cropped? How about both?) I do give them points for the “Santa, stop judging me” shirt, though.

Anyway, it’s clearance time over there—take another 40% off already-reduced clearance with coupon code EXTRA40. Shipping starts at $7, which stinks, but if you’re buying enough, it may be worth it.

My new favorite shirt

Many of my favorite t-shirts come from Shirt.Woot, simply because I’m a sucker for a funny shirt. I just received the #1 ranked shirt in the Top 20, which is their “Go Sports!” design, and I cannot wait to wear it at our Super Bowl party. (Nothing irritates die-hard sports fans more than someone wearing a short that says “Go sports! Move the thing to the other thing!”)

Anyway, if you love their shirts, too, this is a perfect week to stock up—you can use coupon code LAZY20 to take 20% off your $20+ order, which means you can get yourself a Go Sports shirt and at least one more (maybe more than that; I don’t judge) at a discounted price.

This means I may need to go back and get the Couch Potato League shirt. And I’m pretty sure my daughter needs that Procrastination University shirt….

If you’re a Lily girl…

Once a year 6pm.com does a big Lily Pulitzer sale, and today’s the day. Most items are 60% off, and while I think Lily stuff is very, very pretty, 60% off is still pretty rich for my blood. Maybe not for yours, though.

Signed,
Someone who is wearing a designer sweater she paid $4 for at Goodwill

There’s still Christmas clearance deals to be had

I can’t bear to head to the actual store (I am a shy, retiring flower, and the crowds there make my itchy), but right now you can save up to 75% on Christmas decor at Home Depot both online and in-store.

Shipping is free on any size order.

There’s some really cute stuff marked waaaaay down… I already got some “tools” wrapping paper that’s not Christmasy, but will be totally fun for all those times I have a gift to wrap for a guy and wonder if I can get away with flowered paper (answer: no).

Happy hunting!

If you do colorful hair dyes…

… then you know that the biggest trick to great color is getting the hair really well stripped of color before you dye. I myself am merely rocking my gray at this point, but my daughter has joined many of her peers in rotating through a rainbow of bright colors for the ends of her hair, and I’m happy to assist for now. (Someday she may not want neon pink hair at, say, a job interview. But for now, who cares?)

Anyway! I bought this 3-pack of Clairol Balsam Ultra Light Natural Blonde from Amazon the last time they had a coupon, and we’ve been very happy with it. For one thing, the same color will cost you $7-$12 for a single box at the drug store, and this is currently $3.57 for 3 boxes with an available $2 coupon, plus you can order via Subscribe & Save for free shipping and even greater savings. For another, it does a decent job of stripping color without completely frying my kiddo’s hair, though we are very careful when doing this stuff. (Try saturating hair in coconut oil before bleaching/coloring to counteract the chemicals some.)

This probably isn’t the right stuff to buy if you want to be blonde as an end product, but it’s perfectly serviceable for us darker-haired types who want to lighten and then dye another color.

Another chance to Ninja!

If you missed it back in October (or the timing simply wasn’t right), don’t worry, it’s back—you can get a $90 refurbished Ninja Cooking System again today at Home.Woot.

The Ninja remains my favorite cooking apparatus, bar none. And that’s even taking into consideration the $100 waffle iron I got for $5 at a yard sale. This is serious. You will not regret spending the money, I promise. If Santa brought some cash, now may be the time to treat yourself to this marvel of slow cooker/electric skillet/convection cooking wonderment.

Stuff you should do this week

Happy some-of-the-world-is-returning-to-normal-life day! If you’re lucky, you’ve still got some time off this week to ring in the new year and figure out how many random objects and festive bows got crammed under the couch last week.

Today is the first day in a whole week that I’ve felt normal again. Hooray for Tamiflu! And here’s a few things I’ll be doing over the next few days; maybe you’ll want to do them, too.

Take care of any year-end charitable contributions. If you’ve been meaning to make a donation somewhere, or have bags to drop off at Goodwill, get it done before the 31st so you get the tax benefit for this year. I try to do a closet clean-out before the holidays, but sometimes (like this year) I don’t manage it. We did it over the weekend and I’ll be dropping off our donations today.

Do another once-over wherever you were storing gifts. Whether it’s a closet, a corner of the basement, a magical cupboard (hey, I don’t know your life), wherever you were stashing gifts this year, go through and make sure you didn’t miss anything and know what’s still in there. During the big Lightning Deals frenzy at Amazon I often acquire not just holiday, but birthday and other random gifts, as well. Now’s the time to make sure you know what’s stashed.

Finish any thank-yous. Did far-flung family send goodies your way? Hopefully you already said thanks, but if not, take care of that before the hustle and bustle of returning to “regular life” takes over.

Clean your refrigerator. Yeah. I’m sorry. It’s my least-favorite thing, too, but if you’re like me you’ve been cooking and feeding people and then refusing to cook and ordering out and in general your (my) fridge is probably full of scary things by now in the back corners. Won’t it be great to ring in 2015 without mystery containers lurking in your fridge…?

Do resolutions, however it works for you. I’m not much of a New Year’s Resolution type, myself, but we do tend to do a family night either on or new New Year’s Eve where we talk about what our goals are for the coming year as a family. Also I’ve been making a vision board every year for the past… four or five years or so, I guess. (My daughter has joined me the last few years.) It’s nice to just take a few minutes to stop and breathe and think, y’know?

Spill… what’re you up to this week?

Merry Day After Christmas!

I didn’t actually mean to take a break from posting this week, but Santa brought me a very special gift a little early this year—the flu! I must’ve been a very good girl, huh? Lucky me.

I’m better now, though moving pretty slowly. Here’s a few post-holiday deals to check out:

6pm.com is having a big post-holiday clearance, plus you can use coupon code 6PMEU1225201415683 for an additional 15% off.

I love the after-Christmas sale at Macy’s, because they don’t fool around—they’re all, “It’s December 26th and we’re marking everything down.” Shipping is currently free on your order of $75+, there are markdowns galore, and you can try coupon code YFM32X for an extra 20% off sale/clearance items.

If Kohls is more your speed, stack coupons HOLIDAY20 (20% off) and HAPPY2015 for $10 off $30+. Everyone gets free shipping on $50+ and there’s about a zillion deals to be had.

I’ll keep looking around, but that should get you started….
