Christmas creepiness in July
Welcome to July, and all it includes! Surely you’re gearing up for some stories about people doing really stupid things with fireworks in the next few days, but before that happens, maybe you’d like to think about Christmas.
What?
Personally, I am deeply grateful that this whole Elf on the Shelf nonsense wasn’t around when my kids were little, because I find it beyond creepy. I know, I know; it’s cute! It’s harmless! No, sorry. It creeps me out. But if you think it’s awesome, I happen to know that the elf hardly ever goes on sale, so the fact that Amazon has this elf and book combo available for just $15.86 means now is the time to buy if you’d like to scar your children for life start the tradition at your house. This is the lowest price at which it’s ever been offered.
As for me, I’ll stick to threatening to sell my kids to the circus, no elves required.
A Friday delight
Close out your week with a quick jaunt over to LOFT and you can save 50% on everything except jeans, today—just use coupon code DELIGHT50. It works on sale/clearance items, too. But hurry, because today (Friday, June 28th) is the last day for this code.
Shipping is free on $125+, otherwise it’s a flat $8.95. Let us not discuss how easy it is to get to $125 at this store, even during a sale.
Picture this Nikon deal
I love it when I run across a camera deal and demand that my (photographer) husband clarify whether it’s something worth buying. His comment on this one is—and I quote—“That’s a really good lens.” So this is not the right choice if you want a DSLR, but if you’re looking for a higher-end point-and-shoot for not too much money, check it out:
Today one of the bonus Deals of the Day at Best Buy is the Nikon Coolpix P310 camera for just $130 and free shipping. Their claim that this is $200 off is a bit fanciful, of course—a quick comparison reveals a $190 price-point at Amazon—but it’s still the lowest I’ve seen this one, and the reviews are spectacular.
[Dang it… while I was writing this, it sold out online. You can still check your local stores for availability and order it for pickup, though.]
In case you’re feeling Lucky
They’re running a Lucky Brand boutique over at Rue La La today, and I am trying to sit on my hands (though that makes it very hard to type). Lucky is one of my favorite brands, overpriced though it may be in its natural habitat.
Those of you who object to members-only sites will want to pass on this one, but once you register (painless! free!) you get access to things like this, incredibly low prices on brands that normally cost way too much. So. Up to you, of course.
Handle those summer colds
Whether your family’s down with the sniffles now or you’re thinking ahead to the school supply lists, everyone can use cheap facial tissues, right? Right. And at the moment Amazon has this 4-pack of Quilted Northern Ultra Facial Tissues for $5.79, which isn’t exactly a bargain.
But! There’s a $2 off coupon to clip, mid-page, plus you can buy via Subscribe & Save, which—if you have Amazon Mom—can save you as much as another 20%. I just ordered these and got 4 boxes of premium tissues delivered for $2.63, which is better than I can do on the generic brand at the grocery store. (Plus, I’m still in my pajamas. Can’t put a price on that.)
Flash sale on sandals
If you love Timberland sandals, it’s your lucky day—until 4:00 p.m. Eastern they’re having a flash sale! All women’s sandals are an additional 50% off when you put them in your cart, plus shipping is free. And everything is already marked down before the discount, so the savings are huge.
Looks like coupon code WELCOME13 will take another 10% off, too.
Go make your feet happy!
Need a dress?
If you need a little something nice to wear to a summer wedding or just because you’re tired of wearing shorts and t-shirts, today would be an excellent day to hit up 6pm.com; they’ve got a Summer Dresses boutique going on that’s pages and pages long, and starts with options at just $24.99.
It wouldn’t be a bad way to break up your week a little, is my point. Plus, if you buy something pretty, then you have to go do something fun in your new outfit. I’m pretty sure that’s the law.
A very Tuesday Kohlsday
Oh, I know we usually wait until Wednesday to do Kohls, but there’s so many good reasons to start shopping today! For one thing, their weekend Bonus Buys are still in effect through the end of today. For another, you’ll earn $10 of Kohls Cash for every $50 you spend, and everyone gets free shipping on their $75+ order. And finally—my favorite—coupons galore!
Everyone can use coupon code SUNNY15T for 15% off any order. If you have a Kohls charge card, combine code SUNNY30 for an extra 30% off any order with code SHIPFREE4U for free shipping on any size order.
I tend to use these coupons for clothes for the family, but check out those Bonus Buys if there’s a small appliance you’ve been wanting—they’ve got deals on everything from Keurigs to carpet cleaners, and with the coupons, the deals are hot.
A pocketful of fun
I’m old—ancient, really—so I remember when Polly Pockets actually came in tiny little carrying containers. I had one that was a necklace charm; when you got bored, you could take the doll out of the necklace and play with her.
Today’s Polly Pockets are basically just smaller Barbies, but I forgive them because at least Polly doesn’t have enormous boobs. Anyway! Right now Amazon is offering 40% off tons of popular Polly sets, and if you have kids who love Polly as much as mine did, it might be something you want to check out. (Notice I said “kids,” not “girls.” My son loved Polly, too. Much to his sister’s chagrin.)
We just won’t discuss what happens when your brother discovers he can pop Polly’s head off.
Hello, Calvin
Today must be the day for fancy clothing deals—you’ll save 40% right now on everything at Calvin Klein, for a limited time. Shipping is free on $150+ or a flat $5.95, otherwise.
Shoes are only 30% off, looks like, but it also looks like the discounts work on items already on sale, so I’m not going to quibble over 10% here or there.
