It’s Christmas at Kohls

The 3-day Really Giant Christmas Sale (a.k.a. No Really, This Sale Is Different From All The Others, We Swear) at Kohls is on, and everyone gets free shipping on their $50+ order and earns $10 Kohls Cash for every $50 spent.

Kohls charge card holders can also use coupon code GIFT4KC for free shipping on any order, and coupon code GIFTS4ALL for an additional 30% off.

What’s on sale? Pretty much everything. Which is just the way we like it.

Have you checked today’s St. Nick’s Picks?

I think they’re a wee bit confused, over there at Lands’ End, because today’s St. Nick’s Picks claim to be sleepwear, but then if you click through there’s also robes, slippers, even sheets and pillows and one lone pink felted stocking. (I hope it has a tag that says: Not for sleeping.) But a deal’s a deal, so I’m not complaining.

Take 30% off your order and get free shipping when you use coupon code SANTA and PIN 1212, too. Because the only thing better than a great one-day deal is that deal with extra money off, shipped for free.

Today’s Amazon toy markdown roundup

Toy closets (and donation bins—please tell me that if you can afford to, you’re picking up extra for donation!) everywhere rejoice as the prices fall at Amazon. Amen.

Electronic Flash versions of old faves:
Simon Flash for $14 (53% off)
Yahtzee Flash for $15 (50% off)
Scrabble Flash Cubes for $19.89 (34% off)

Zoobles (no, I don’t understand them either):
Zoobles Arctic Inn Playset for $7 (56% off)
Zoobles Arctic Swell’s Dream Creamery for $7 (56% off)

Fancy bath toy:
Aquaplay Rescue Center Lagoon for $14.37 (71% off)

Kids Authority 3D puzzles, and on these use coupon code RVZTH2SE for an additional 10% off 2, 15% off 3, or 20% off 4 or more:
Fairy Tale Castle Puzzle for $5
Pirate Ship for $6
Navy Ship HMS Narfolk Frigate for $7
Fantastic Fortress for $8
Aircraft Carrier Kiev for $8
Discovery Space Shuttle for $8

Now, let’s all sit back and see how many of those prices changed in the time it took me to type all of that out….

Yeah, Baby!

Oh, Mike Myers. How I both loathe and adore you as Austin Powers. I don’t know what it is. I’m laughing and cringing at the same time! It’s so awful! And yet so darn funny!

If you can’t get enough Austin Powers, today’s your day: Get the Austin Powers Collection on Blu-ray from Amazon for just $15! That’s International Man of Mystery, The Spy Who Shagged Me, and Goldmember all for just $5 apiece.

Come to think of it, this would be a perfect item for a White Elephant gift exchange.

Magic Erasers, I love you

I’m not saying you should necessarily go stuffing your kids’ stockings with this 8-pack of Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, even though it is a steal from Amazon at just $6.19 right now. (Look in the “More Buying Choices” sidebar to buy direct from Amazon.) I mean, just because the kids are probably the reason you need the Magic Erasers in the first place doesn’t mean you should give them to them. I know this.

All I’m saying is hey, this is a good deal, and by the way, did I ever tell you the story about the year we filled my daughter’s stocking with ShamWows? She loved them. Still talks about it as the “best Christmas ever.” No one ever claimed she wasn’t a little weird, though.

Getting the best bed

The lovely Dallas writes:

Dear pretty Mir —

I’m a longtime reader and finally moving into an apartment with no roommates (holler for being a grown up, even in a recession!)… I’m upsizing from a twin bed (I’m 27, it’s time) to a queen bed. Any suggestions on how to pull off getting a good deal on a mattress, quality tips, etc? I’m totally clueless… and you know everything 🙂

Love,
Dallas

You know what? I do love Dallas! She’s exceptionally pretty. And that’s not even just because she’s also an accomplished suck-up.

Speaking as someone who enjoys researching products before I buy them and then finding the best deal, I can tell you with absolute certainty that the mattress industry is in cahoots with the liquor industry. That is, even the most savvy and conscientious among us want to drink when we have to shop for a new bed. That’s because it’s confusing, time consuming, and there’s no possible way to find a “standard” for pricing. But let’s see what we can do. read more…

But wouldn’t zombies be more fun?

Look, I’m sure that this Fisher-Price Lil’ Zoomers Spinnin’ Sounds Speedway is great. It has fabulous reviews, the toddler in the picture looks thrilled with it, and it’s just the sort of things to keep active little ones happy. And it sure doesn’t hurt that it’s currently just $19.82 at Amazon (43% off).

But every time I see the product name pop up on the site, I think it says it’s the Fisher-Price Lil’ Zombies Spinnin’ Sounds Speedway, and then I’m disappointed when I realize that it isn’t. I think it would be a great product enhancement, frankly. They could spin around and lose limbs and stuff.

I clearly missed my calling as a toy developer.

Got cookware?

Have a fancy-pants foodie type person on your shopping list? Right now all cookware at Williams-Sonoma is 25% off and ships for free when you apply coupon code COOKWARE25. This works on top of sale prices, too, so there are actually some very good deals to be had.

Not to mention that Williams-Sonoma is totally the place to buy stuff you never knew existed. Egg waffle pan? That’s… interesting.
