Have I mentioned that the kids are back to school? Have you noticed how serene I am, sitting here at my desk, sipping my coffee which is still warm and enjoying the peace and quiet?
Ahhhhhhhh.
Heather is not sipping her coffee. Because a terrible tragedy has befallen her:
So, my parents were visiting this weekend and broke my coffee pot. (Don’t ask.) It was one of those nice thermal-carafe ones that we got as a wedding gift. I’m thinking about upgrading, though, since it’s now kaput. I was looking at those models that grind the beans and brew the coffee (and if there’s a thermal carafe thingie, so much the better). So, I come to you, oh pretty one, to see if you have any coffee pot-buying mojo … Help!
No one should be coffeeless. It’s too tragic! (more…)

Join the official Nestle Chocolatier online team and receive coupons for their new premium baking chocolate. (I read that everyone who signs up in September gets a coupon for a free bag; but it’s not September yet and I can’t find this anywhere on the site. Still, worth a shot.)
But they’re playing my song over there:
Love Chocolate? Particularly free chocolate? Then you’ve come to the right place!
The Nestle Chocolatier Official Online Team is your premiere destination to sample Chocolatier and share the indulgent Chocolatier experience with your friends and family.
(Note to Nestle: You can’t make me share.)

I thought it would be fitting, on the heels of the last post, to offer up some deals on high-end women’s clothing.
Today is the last day to use code ENDSALE to get an additional 25% off at Liz Claiborne.
Now through September 4th, you can use code 10601235 for an additional 20% off and there’s currently free shipping at Ann Taylor Loft.
And last but not least, you have until Halloween to take $25 off of your order of $100 or more at Coldwater Creek with code PJA1052. (Don’t forget to check out the CC Outlet, because that’s where the real deals are, and the coupon works there, too.)

Do y’all know Patricia? In addition to being a funny and pretty and all-around lovely person, Patricia and I finally met last month at BlogHer and she brought me beautiful hand-knit socks. I felt wholly inadequate. She brought me socks, and I brought her… ummm… my jetlagged self rambling on nonsensically. A fabulous deal for me, but not so much for Patricia.
Nevertheless, Patricia seems to still like me. She may have low standards. And she sent along the following:
Mir:
You are pretty and have an excellent sense of style. I am constantly
impressed at how you never give up style for price and when I saw you in person, I was thrilled to see you dress in the current styles (without being insanely on the cutting edge), but knowing in my heart you didn’t pay full price for anything, save perhaps your underwear.
[Ed. note: People pay full price for underwear?]
So, here’s my question. I’m going on a vacation in October and I’m in a bit of a pickle. I’m a work at home mother, whose closet has basically become the breeding ground of long sleeve tees and jeans. I want/need to have 7 days of reasonable style for the Mexico trip I’m heading on. I’ve hunted the basics, but I’m stumped. I can’t seem to locate casual wear that isn’t either for the 20 somethings (read: Old Navy) or more like “casual work wear” (Read: Banana Republic) I tried Gap and they seemed to miss things like skirts. I’m open to suggestions for reasonable cost and great fit and style.
This question requires two avenues of response. (more…)

Don’t let the name turn you off—the TestTube Program is “The world’s most unique product sampling program.”
[How do they verify that, do you suppose? Do you think they actually tested it, or maybe they just sat around and patted each other on the back saying, “Well, you know, no one else sends their stuff out in a tube.”]
For $25 + $6.95 shipping, each tube contains an array of high-end beauty products in a variety of sizes, as well as a $25 spalook.com gift certificate (so it’s like getting everything else for just the cost of shipping).
This is not a “freebie” in the traditional sense, and I wouldn’t recommend it for someone who doesn’t already spend quite a bit on make-up. But if you’re a try-it-all, must-have-the-latest-and-greatest beauty items type, this could be an amazing deal for you. Go read up; they claim the first tube contained $180 worth of product in addition to the gift certificate.

Wouldn’t it be nice if all samples were calming? I’d like to go out to the mailbox and find a nice envelope full of zen, someday. I could really use that.
Well, until they start giving away samples of enlightenment, you’ll have to settle for this Eucerin Calming Creme (U.S. residents only). I have long been a devotee of the original Eucerin, but after receiving a sample of the Calming Creme a few years ago, I switched to that. It’s wonderful for itchy skin.
But no matter how much of it you use, it’s still going to be annoying when the children put crayons down the drain. Just so you know.

… it’s time to think about preparing for winter!
(Okay. I know some of you live in warmer climes. But here? It’s already starting to get cold.)
It’s rare that I will recommend a specific product, but today I am going to confess to you my steadfast, unwavering, unnatural love for this down alternative comforter
which I have owned for a few years. I happen to be allergic to… well, just about everything. Including down. And I had long wished for a fluffy, downy blanket of my very own (that didn’t make me sneeze) when someone recommended this comforter to me.
It was—bar none—the single best purchase I’ve made this decade. It has kept its shape and fluffiness and is incredibly warm and let’s face it; you simply cannot beat the price. Besides, you can still use the 12% off and $1 shipping coupon
when you order it!
Show me a better deal (particularly if you’re buying king sized) and I’ll eat my pillow.

This is one of the coolest freebies I’ve seen in a while. Everyone go tell Tori how pretty she is for finding it!
Go to Canvas On Demand to get a $59 voucher, good for a free 8″ x 10″ photo canvas or to be applied towards another item.
Browse around their site and be amazed; it’s pricey, what they do, but what gorgeous stuff!

We’ve talked before about not giving teachers Yet Another Mug. One of my favorite teacher gifts to give is an electric labelmaker, because it’s just so darned handy for… well, everything. Also, they can be pricey, but sometimes you can find them on sale.
One year I bought a whole batch of them on clearance at Target for about $5 each. That was a good year.
This deal isn’t quite as good, but it’s close! Right now you can buy a DYMO LetraTag labelmaker for just $9.99 shipped. Go ahead; make your kids’ teachers love you for under ten bucks. I certainly won’t tell them what you paid.
