GPS deals to watch

You know how I feel about GPS units, right? (Not as pretty as shoes, but incredibly useful.) I was trying to link you up to an incredible deal today in Amazon’s GPS Lightning Deals but the current deal sold out while I was typing. I hate it when that happens. Keep an eye out, though, because there will be more deals coming up throughout the day, and when the deal is on a TomTom (like the just-expired one was), you can use coupon code TOMTOM20 for an additional 20% off, even combined with the special Lightning Deal price.

Alternatively, if you—like me—own a Garmin and think the map updates are too darn pricey, right now Pavilion Electronics via Amazon is offering Lifetime Garmin nuMaps for $68. It’s the only update you’ll ever have to purchase, and probably makes more sense than buying a whole new unit, if you like the one you have.

  1. Awesome, thank you.

Have you ever visited Eartha, at the Garmin headquarters in Maine?

  2. Darn it, I just tried to use the coupon in conjuction with the TomTom deal that is on right now and it wouldn’t let me. It said:
We’re sorry, but the promotional code you entered cannot be applied to this purchase. Please refer to your promotional coupon for information about item or store restrictions

  3. Dave: Is that a thing people do on vacation? “Oh, honey, let’s go eat some lobsters and visit Garmin!” (I guess you can tell my answer is no….) 😉

Carrie: I know it worked on the last deal; I wonder if they changed it. Or did you try to buy a sold-out item?

  4. It would let me purchase the item, just not with the code.

  5. Eartha is a beautiful three-story-high globe, with balconies around it for viewing. It’s well worth the side trip if you’re on your way to Freeport for some outlet shopping.

  6. I used the code just fine. You can get the tom tom with lifetime map updates for $119, normally $199, and they’ll take $24 off.

  7. Hmm, there seem to be a lot of unsatisfied customers with the unit linked above. Lots of trouble downloading new maps. Maybe I clicked “purchase” too soon.

  8. I just picked up a TomTom XXL540TM with lifetime maps and traffic updates and used the 20% off coupon. We’ve been thinking about a GPS for the car for awhile, and I knew I was going to eventually get a TomTom because I want Darth Vader telling me where I’m going — this was too great a deal to ignore!

  9. I’ll have to go and look. Hubby and I were in Taiwan last week and the person driving us around for sightseeing was using a Garmin that hubby was quite enamored with!

  10. Thank you for suggesting that I called CS: I did, and they were very helpful (and slow, but that’s another story. lol). They said that there was an error with the code and it wasn’t working for some reason with several items but they would be glad to adjust my order for me, which they did. I paid $100.58 for a TomTom, for which I am very happy for! 🙂

  11. I bought a TomTom GPS unit during a Lightning Deal earlier today and couldn’t get the TOMTOM20 code to work either. I just did a live chat with customer service, and it took less than 5 minutes to get the price adjustment/refund to reflect the additional discount. Yay for Amazon customer service!
