I feel like it’s impossible to go anywhere online these days without coming across a story about how drinking straws are killing the planet. Animals end up either eating them or getting tangled in them and… it’s not good. I don’t want to kill animals! I just want to enjoy my beverage without it hitting my sensitive teeth!
Right now Amazon has this set of 4 silicone and 2 stainless steel straws with cleaning brush listed at $15.34, which seems a little nuts. But if you apply coupon code 80OFFDEAL2, your price drops to just $3.07, which is more like it. If you have Prime they ship for free (plus I’m being offered a $1 digital credit for slower shipping, which I’ll take because more Kindle books), and that’s either plenty of straws for home or maybe a combination of home straws and ones you can take out with you.
We have stainless straws at home, already, but I think I’m going to grab this deal and carry the silicone ones. I’ve always wanted to be that crazy lady with a purse full of straws. (Not really, but it doesn’t seem like much of a stretch for me, right? Don’t answer that.)
weird – when I click on the link, the straws are listed as $5, but $4.59 shipping and the code does not work.
I like the idea of carrying a straw with me, but what do you do with the messy straw until you get home? If you’re wrapping it in paper napkins to avoid getting smoothie residue all over the inside of your purse, that kind of defeats the purpose, doesn’t it? Am I missing a solution to this?
I was thinking snack-sized Ziploc…?
I have a fabric pencil bag that I picked up at Target for a couple of bucks during back to school time. However, you can also search for “reusable straw case” and find something charming and inexpensive.
Looks like it is already sold out/over. 🙁
Geeeeeez, that was fast. Sorry, all!
I’ve been looking for good reusable straws for so long, but I finally discovered a Kickstarter (still ongoing) that finally made me go, “Yep, I want that one.” It’s called the FinalStraw: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/908228738/finalstraw-the-worlds-first-collapsible-reusable-s/description
I’m not in any way related to this campaign (well, I’m a backer now), but I love that it folds, comes with a carrying case, and has a lifetime warranty. This was the final incentive to get a reusable, take-along straw for me. (And it comes with a freaking squeegee to clean it! A tiny squeegee! How cute is that?! Okay, I’m done exclaiming over a straw squeegee now…)
😀
I’ve had this Kickstarter bookmarked for weeks. I WANT IT. But also the price… ugh. (Not saying it isn’t worth it, it’s just a lot, and I need 3 of them.) We’ll see; I may pull the trigger eventually!
I vacillated for a long time, too. The “cheap deals” part of me balked, but I also haven’t bought any reusable straws, because none really were what I wanted to have (something I could easily take with me and clean). The only reason I finally went for it was the lifetime warranty. (I know it’s still a risk, since they could go out of business, but it’s such a great idea that I’m going for it with my eyes wide open.)
And, of course, the squeegee really helped seal the deal. 😉 I went for two (me and my husband), but I keep wanting to add more for gifts. I’m holding out on that, though.
