Don’t forget your dining deals
They say you can count on death and taxes, but I think you can count on death, taxes, and a Restaurant.com deal when there’s a holiday. With Labor Day on its way, now’s the time to shop for discount dining certificates and use coupon code BITE to save 60%. That means you can snag $25 worth of fine dining for just $4, saving $21 to put towards a sitter, a couple of glasses of wine, or a some decadent desserts.
Wait. I want a sitter, wine, and dessert. I guess my husband’s going to have to stay home. (Sorry, honey!)
Gear up for Labor Day
No need to wait until this weekend for the big sales to start; Lands’ End is already marking down items and giving you more ways to save.
Apply coupon code SHOPNOW with PIN 2030 for an additional 30% off everything and free shipping on your $50+ order. Remember that you can return items to your local Sears for free, so sometimes it’s possible that I order a few different sizes—that’s useful in terms of getting up to the free shipping threshold, anyway—and then we try on at home and return the items that don’t work.
If you love Lands’ End swimsuits but don’t love the regular prices, this is a great time to find a deal, by the way. We’re not quite to “these are the leftovers” seasons, but what they do still have is a lot more affordable.
I’ve become a coconut oil evangelist
I forget who, exactly, got me started with coconut oil, but I’ve become a crazy person. I use it in everything. I tell people about it. Did I ever chat about olive oil, or canola oil? No, of course not. But coconut oil. Dude. Oh, you like those cookies I made? Let me tell you all about the coconut oil I used in them. Okay, I’ll stop. Though this is a good, quick read if you want to know more about the health benefits. (Confession: I mostly just think it makes things taste good.)
Anyway, I usually buy my coconut oil from Amazon (pretend you’re shocked) and that tends to run about $12-$14 for 30 ounces; sometimes it’s less when I catch a sale.
But right now I’m almost out and don’t want to wait for my next Subscribe & Save order, so instead I’m snapping us today’s Cyber Steal at GNC, instead, because it’s 32 ounces of coconut oil for just $9.99. Use coupon code ABCART to take off another 15%, making it just $7.74! [Edited to add: Alert readers are indicating that using the coupon code may restore regular-price shipping. Maybe don’t use the code if you don’t have ShopRunner.] That is crazy cheap for organic coconut oil.
Shipping is currently just a dollar, or if you have ShopRunner, it’s free.
Get some more-a Sephora
(I should be a poet, what with my mad rhyming skillz, yo.)
Love Sephora? Really, who doesn’t? Today you can snag a $10 Sephora gift card for just $5 from Groupon. Sure, it’s only $5 off, but you can use it online or in person (or even at the Sephora inside JC Penney), and that’s an extra $5 in your pocket or an extra something you didn’t need to pay for. Why wouldn’t you want that savings, is the real question.
(And Sephora just happens to be having a huge end-of-summer sale right now, to boot. It’s fat, I tell you.)
Pssst! It’s baaaaack!
If you missed it when this first came up about a month ago, Amazon has restocked on their LEGO “Back to the Future” DeLorean building sets. Yes, these are selling at full retail—$35—but this is a limited edition set and I’m already seeing plenty of fools paying $50+ for them on eBay. Last time I posted this, they were only available for a day.
Grab one now before the resellers ruin it for everybody. (Bargain hound that I am, I did grudgingly pay the full retail $35 for the limited edition Minecraft set last year. It is my son’s most prized possession, and was worth every penny. This set is actually even cooler than that one. Okay, LEGO, you’ve assimilated me.)
Did you forget back to school shoes?
Did you get the kids all prepped for back-to-school and then one or more of your little darlings decided to have a foot growth spurt? We refer to this phenomenon as either “flipper foot” or “ski feet,” depending on the width of said food. It never fails. And you know, with them growing this fast, it’s hard to justify spending a lot of money on their shoes. (On the other hand, you at least want something decent, because it’s their feet/balance/health/whatever.)
Enter Payless; their current back-to-school sale has something for everyone, at affordable prices. Plus right now you can also use coupon code 251399901 for an extra 20% off your order.
Shipping is a flat $5.95 to your home, or free to your local store. (Or join their free rewards program to get free home delivery on your $50+ order.)
Payless forever wins my gratitude for being one of the few places you can get those elusive manchild shoe sizes (6-7.5 or so) that no one else seems to carry. The sales and coupons are just an added bonus.
Heads up, nursing mamas
If you’re a nursing mom, don’t miss today’s Target Daily Deals—it’s full of nursing bras and tanks at discounted prices, plus if you spend $75+ you’ll get an additional 20% off. Daily deals ship for free, too, which is nice if you just want one or two items.
I remember absolutely loving those nursing camis as a way to still have “easy access” without baring my tummy every time the baby needed to eat. Of course, according to my children, I also remember when dinosaurs roamed the earth, but I’m pretty sure nursing camis are still a useful thing.
Got wipes?
This one is good if your family is filthy. Or if your kids’ schools like you to send in wipes. Or if you just really like to give out wipes as presents. Whatever.
Right now Amazon has this 3-pack of Lysol Disinfecting Wipes available for just $8.99, which is already their best price. Now, stack up the savings to make it a smokin’ deal:
1) Clip the available 20% off coupon in the middle of the page.
2) Purchase via Subscribe and Save to save up to an additional 20% (if you have 5+ subscriptions and are part of Amazon Mom).
3) Buy 4 of them because they’re on Buy-3-Get-1-Free special!
Combine all of that, and you can get 12 canisters (960 wipes) for $17.98 delivered—that’s $1.50/canister or around a penny per wipe. Don’t have a need for so many? Split an order with a friend. This is the cheapest I’ve ever seen these, and while I may prefer hippie-type cleaners and less waste for “regular” cleaning, sometimes it’s nice just to be able to do a quick germ-killing swab on the go.
Brownies and body lotion
I don’t know if this is excited or a little scary, but today (Monday, August 26th) only at Bath & Body Works, you can get a bonus box of gourmet brownies with any order. (Do the brownies taste like hand lotion? Someone please order and report back.)
Use coupon code FALLTREAT to get your brownies, and if you spend $25+ you’ll get $1 shipping on your entire order.
They’re running about a dozen specials right now, too, so Signature items are Buy 3 Get 3, Aromatherapy is more than half off, and all kinds of other good stuff. Plus, you know, brownies.
Everything’s better once you laminate it
Well… not snacks. Laminated snacks would be… plasticky.
And probably not books, either. I mean, unless you laminated the pages individually, which would be a lot of work. And then the book wouldn’t feel right.
Licorice says she definitely would not be better laminated, so pets seem to be out, as well.
Okay, not everything is better laminated. That was a stretch. Still, I can’t possibly be the only one who has a little throwback-to-elementary-school thrill when I laminate something. It’s a handy little device to have around, and let me tell you, if you want to win a teacher’s heart? Buy her a laminator.
Today’s Amazon Gold Box Deal is a Swingline GBC Inspire Laminator for just $15. $15! This isn’t going to be commercial-grade lamination like you’d get at a copy shop, but for classroom or home use it’ll do just fine, and it’s hard to beat the price. It has great reviews, too.
I’m not sure I buy the supposed regular price of $50, but a review of the price history suggests it’s been $25-$30 on Amazon for the most part. Today’s price is a pretty sweet deal.
