Bag some batteries
Make the switch to rechargeable batteries, please—it’s better for the environment, it’s cheaper in the long run, nine out of ten baby seals agree. (All true! Except possibly the bit about the seals.) But the fact remains that sometimes you just need “regular” batteries for something, and no matter how committed you are to your rechargeables, every now and then you need alkalines.
So maybe peek over at today’s Amazon Gold Box deal to nab a 16-count Max Energizer pack of AA or AAA batteries for just $7.75. That’ll make you set for quite a while on junky kiddie flashlight power and such.
Save the rechargeables for the important things… like the television remote. Heh.
Order your prints, get a free plane ticket
I recently may have mentioned to my husband that it’s probably not safe for me to shop for plane tickets unless there’s a defibrillator nearby. Just sayin’. So this deal from Kodak Gallery totally piqued my interest: Right now you can order $50+ and get a free companion air ticket.
So that means you get your prints or some greeting cards or whatever, and you get free plane fare. Restrictions apply, of course, and there’s blackout dates (don’t think this is going to make holiday travel any easier), but still—it’s a free plane ticket. If you needed to place an order anyway, that’s a pretty sweet bonus.
Stock up at The Body Shop
Once upon a time I believed expensive bath products were a waste of money. I know. This was before I actually tried several of these pricey products, of course. One of the biggest points of conversion for me? Body butter from The Body Shop. I mean, yes, it’s expensive and I’m certainly not buying it at regular price (because that would be crazy), but ohmygosh do I love that stuff. Want skin as soft and silky as butter? Use their body body.
Today (June 21st, 2011) only, The Body Shop is shipping orders of $15+ for free, automatically. They’ve also got select body butters marked down to $10, and the ones that aren’t are eligible for either Buy 2 Get 1 or Buy 3 Get 2.
That means it’s a great time to stock up and not feel guilty about the price. As if you can put a price on those sexy smooth legs….
Kinect with an extra $100
If you’ve been considering going Xbox so that you can embrace the spookiness that is the Kinect (hey, I don’t care how cool it is that it can “see” you jumping around, that’s a little spooky), check out today’s Amazon Gold Box Deal—it’s a 4GB Xbox 360 and Kinect bundle for $300, but with a $100 promotional credit back.
There are a few limitations on what you can spend that $100 on—you can’t use it on a Kindle, for example—but really, are you going to have any problem finding $100 worth of Amazon stuff you want? I didn’t think so.
I’ll stick to my Wii, but if you’ve been thinking about taking the Kinect plunge, this is a pretty sweet deal.
Get your kicks
One of today’s specials at 6pm.com is deep discounts on New Balance sneakers. I am a total New Balance convert over the last few years and now buy them for the whole family—they seem to be the only brand of sneakers we’ve tried that don’t require any breaking in. I suspect they’re made with ground-up fairies, or something.
The discounted shipping (just $2.95/order) is still in effect, too. Awesome.
Weird Al is a bargain at any price
Just yesterday I saw Weird Al’s latest video—it’s for “Perform This Way,” which is a Lady Gaga spoof. Here; it’s too good not to share:
Awesome, right? (I am admittedly biased. The ringtone on my iPhone is “White and Nerdy.” Total Al nerd, here.) Anyway, you can snag Weird Al’s latest album, Alpocalypse, today at Amazon for just $3.99. I’m thinking that would be a nice gift to leave as a surprise on my daughter’s iPod. Hahahaha.
Keepsake books, thrift-store price
Groupon, I wish I could quit you. (Not really. Don’t ever leave me, baby.)
Check it out: Today you can snag a $35 savings on photo books when you spend just $15 to get $50 towards Inkubook. It’s as if the clouds parted and a lightning bolt came down while a booming voice declared, “Really, it’s time to print some of those photos for your parents, already.”
Snag the Groupon now, make the book later. The holidays aren’t as far off as you think, by the way. Just sayin’.
I do recommend against used babies
Gearing up for a new arrival, but on a limited budget? Used baby gear (please note: this is different than used babies) may be right for you. Check out my latest post over at Tree.com to find out what to remember when shopping for used baby gear.
Of course, it’s now been so long since I had to shop for baby gear, it’s possible you can just order a complete gear bundle from Alpha Centauri, but I don’t think so.
Big savings at Calvin Klein
It’s the second time this summer they’ve had a huge sale, and I don’t know why, but I’m not complaining—right now just about everything at Calvin Klein is an additional 40% off. No code needed; just shop and see the savings reflected in your cart. It applies as extra savings on items already marked down, too!
I love everything about CK except the price… though with a sale like this, it’s darn near perfect.
The Mythbusters credo
If your family loves Mythbusters the way my family does, you’re going to want to visit Tanga today—they have a “I reject your reality and substitute my own” t-shirt for just $6 (plus $2 shipping). Really, I think my children should have this tattooed somewhere on themselves, but buying a shirt seems cheaper.
Alternatively, say you have a teen who’s into movie-making… they have a subscription to MovieMaker magazine for just $15, but applying coupon code MOVIES drops it to just $5.99 for the year.
Really, though, I just like that t-shirt. A lot.
