I have long loved to joke whenever there’s a kid/baby sale that “I don’t see any actual babies for sale,” and apparently my kid has picked up on my terrible sense of humor.
This morning when I saw that Old Navy is having a Kids & Baby sale right now, I mused aloud that—given just how much cheaper “boys” clothes are than “mens,” and given that my not-terribly-big high school senior is only just outgrowing his size 18 shorts—perhaps I could buy some 18 Husky shorts and get away with that for him?
He told me that was a terrible idea, and I was all set to explain that surely no one is going to look at the tags in his shorts, when he continued, “18 huskies is a ridiculous number of dogs that large. Really, one or two would be plenty.”

Pancakes for everyone!
I own lots (and lots and lots…) of specialty kitchen items, and it’s not unusual for my husband to ask me if we “really need” this or that thing. The answer is always yes, of course, but it is more like “absolutely” when it comes to the electric griddle, because there is simply no other way to make pancakes or French toast for a crowd without being stuck in the kitchen all day. A good griddle allows you to make 8 pancakes at a time, with no hot spots or need to rotate items around, and it’s worth it weight in… well, okay, maybe not gold… maple syrup? Yes. Worth its weight in real Vermont maple syrup.

College, ahoy: Picking a meal plan
Recently lovely reader Teresa sent in a great question:
Have you written about selecting college meal plans? We are close to having that quandary er… privilege. Son in question is a quesocarbotarian if we don’t keep an eye on him. He’s been vegetarian for close to 10 years, he easily eats veggies, fruits and plant proteins lovingly placed on the table before him, but I fear he may have difficulty finding balanced food court style choices. And how do you select an appropriate number of meals per term? We do have Amazon Prime for any emergencies. If you have sage advice (and you surely do!) I bet lots of folks would love to know how you broke this down?
