Vampires are yummy
Today’s Amazon Gold Box Deal is a complete box set of Angel DVDs for $53. While I’m not sure I loved Angel quite as much as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, there’s really no such thing as too much David Boreanaz, if you know what I mean (and I think you do). Ahem.
Furthermore, the current Lightning Deal is on the complete first season of Ghost in the Shell, and I have no idea what that is, but it’s 60% off. Just in case it’s something that means something to you.
Returning online purchases in-store
The holiday season is fast upon us, and Daisy writes:
Kohls allows customers to return online purchases to the store. Does Old Navy do the same?
The short answer is, “Yes.” The long answer is, “Sort of.”
Off the top of my head, I cannot think of a single store where you can shop both online and in-person where online purchases cannot be returned to the store. (Someone please correct me if you know of an exception.) (Check the comments! Smart, pretty commenters are filling me in!) So, yes, anywhere you buy online, if they have a brick and mortar store, you can do straight returns without a problem.
The “maybe” factor comes in if you want to do exchanges rather than returns. While I’ve never exchanged an item at Kohls (generally I’m buying clearance, which means they probably don’t have it at the store, anyway), I used to exchange sizes for my kids at Old Navy. And the last time I tried to do that, they tried to charge me more for the same item in a different size, because the online price was different. I (politely) argued my point, but they wouldn’t budge. And that, sadly, is becoming more commonplace (and to your specific question, Daisy, Gap is owned by the same folks who own Old Navy). It should all be linked via one giant computer, and you should be able to do that stuff… but sometimes you can’t.
So: Returns, yes. Exchanges, possibly but not always.
I’m not sure it’s manic
Over at 6pm.com today, it says something about how it’s their “Manic Monday Madness.” I’m not sure that word means what they think it means—nothing about today’s deals look particularly different and/or manic to me—but RSVP shoes for the entire family for under $10 apiece is pretty enticing, nonetheless.
Maybe when you wear them, you talk really fast and don’t sleep for days. That’d be… kind of cool, actually.
If you start your day with diapers. . .
… you may as well start it off with some diaper deals, too!
If you’re looking for an earth- and baby-friendly disposable option, Seventh Generation is a great choice. Not only are their diapers chlorine free, they come in a variety of sizes (including up to size 6, which many other brands don’t even make).
So here’s the deal at Amazon right now: Go to the Seventh Generation diapers and click on the link to to “Your Coupon Book” (just under the product description). That will take you to some coupons, including one for $4 off. Once you click on that coupon, you’ll be back to choose your size. Pick your size, then select purchase via Subscribe & Save, which will give you free shipping and another 15% off. Then at checkout, apply coupon code 7GENIOO9 for another 15% off.
The end result is diapers to your door for about 40% off (15% coupon + 15% Subscribe & Save + about 10% from your coupon book). I’d stock up if I had a little one.
Saturday deals
Gooooood morning! Are you ready to take on the day? No? Have another cup of coffee. That generally works for me.
I’ve started filling in the holes for holiday shopping. So I was cruising Amazon this morning looking for scooters—and didn’t find what I was looking for—but did discover that they have multiple colors of ripsticks for under $50. Just sayin’.
Lots of great shoes deals at 6pm.com this weekend, including deals on snowboard gear if you’re into that sort of thing.
Use coupon code PUMPKIN at Restaurant.com this weekend to take 70% off your purchase. That’ll get you $25 dining certificates for just $3 out of pocket, and just like that you can afford a night out, again.
Get $10 off your $250+ purchase at Overstock this weekend, automatically, by going through that there link. Remember that shipping is always just $2.99, even for the heavy stuff.
Right now Second Spin is offering 25% off all CDs and DVDs with coupon code OCTCDVD. Awesome.
That should keep you busy for a bit. Stay out of trouble, today, okay?
You’ll do better this time, right, Friday?
We always tell the kids that the best apologies are not the ones where they use the word “sorry,” necessarily, but the ones where their behavior changes accordingly. I know that the Amazon Friday Sale isn’t a child, but it’s been pretty lackluster for a few weeks; will today be the day it repents for real? Let’s find out.
I’ll confess that when I saw these boots on the main page I thought, “Oooohhh… lilac boots. I hate them. Except I kind of love them.” And while $100 is reasonable for leather BCBG boots, I’d like ’em to be a little more versatile. But if you click through you’ll see they’re also available in black and brown. (Looks like only the brown and lilac are on sale.) (Also looks like they qualify for the $20 off $100+ Amazon shoes promo, but you need to find something that costs at least a dime to get over the limit.)
You were totally cruising the Friday Sale looking for a super-fancy shower, right? Oh, you weren’t? Nevermind.
Part of me thinks that these slingshot action balls would be great fun for the dog. And another part of me knows it would end with one of the kids in the ER.
That great deal on a set of Earth Pan cookware is back—just $115 for everything you need, without the dangers of Teflon.
It’s been a while since we had a good deal on sheets; these 500 thread count ones are as low as $40 for the set, depending on your size/color combo.
Have you ever wanted to have those giant wine glasses they sometimes have on cooking shows? Now you can! While the price is great, read the reviews on these goblets—one reviewer speculates an entire bottle of wine would fit in a single glass. Hee.
I’m intrigued by this steak knife set. Although it’s kind of expensive given that there’s really no reviews and the knives themselves might be cruddy. But it’d be a great gift for the modern art enthusiast who has everything, I suppose.
I know it’s early to be talking holiday teacher gifts, but this 4-pack of Ghirardelli hot cocoa mix is just $16, with an automatic 20% off at checkout. Really, paired with some cookies or pumpkin bread, at around $3/canister that makes for a nice gift on the cheap.
I’m a big fan of going salon-quality for hair tools, but my daughter keeps trying to steal my GHD flat iron (oh, child; please see the dictionary for “Hell, cold day in” to determine when I’ll let you do that), so I may just pick up this $20 Wahl version for her for Christmas.
The Gold Box is full of discounts on collegiate wear, so it’s a great time to grab your team’s sweatshirt at a way better price than they’ll be selling ’em at the stadium.
And don’t forget to check out this month’s selection of 50 MP3 albums for just $5 each; it’s a great way to bulk up your tunes without emptying your wallet.
Friday, I do believe you have redeemed yourself. Nice job.
It’s a Suit Spectacular
Guys: Need a suit? Ladies: Have a guy who hates to shop but needs a suit? It’s a great time to get on over to Jos. A. Bank’s, because their Suit Spectacular is on now. Get their amazing quality for a fraction of the usual cost. Shipping is automatically free on orders of $175+, too.
My husband wore a suit from Jos. A. Bank when we got married, so it’s possible I’m a wee bit biased. But I love their stuff—the perfect combination of quality and value, plus there’s something about your best guy in a nice suit. Mmmm.
Winner of the Nokia XpressMusic contest
Who knew so many of you were T-Mobile customers? Not me! Or maybe y’all were inspired by the utter cuteness of the shiny red Nokia XpressMusic phone I have up for grabs. It really is very shiny.
The random number generator did its thing, and the winner is… commenter 10, Katie in MA. Congratulations, Katie—please check your email!
Great big thanks to everyone who played, and thanks to T-Mobile for being a BlogHer sponsor and letting me spin the wheel to win. (True story: When I won the phone, I told them I’d really been hoping to win some chocolate… so the nice lady running the booth also gave me a bag of chocolate. See? We both won!)
Didn’t win this time? Don’t fret! More prizes are coming up, and that means more ways to win.
Sort of a bulk discount
Okay, after this I swear I’ll stop posting shoe deals today. Probably.
The buy one pair, get the second pair half off deal is back at Famous Footwear, so if you’ve got a couple of kids outgrowing their shoes faster than you can keep up, this may be the deal for you. Er, for them.
A bit of consolation
If you somehow managed to miss the mind-blowing special on Danskos yesterday at 6pm.com, may I humbly suggest you drown your sorrows today in their selection of Anne Klein shoes for just $25?
They won’t be as kind to your feet, it’s true. But they’re awfully pretty….
