It’s time to Get More
Hey, Discover Card holders! It’s time to sign up for the next quarter of Get More, which runs from April 1 to June 30 and gets you a 5% cashback bonus during that time on all purchases at clothing, department, and home improvement stores.
This is undoubtedly because we went out and spent a fortune at our local Home Improvement store this weekend, while putting together our garden. You’re welcome!
Welcome to the family
Today (March 23rd, 2009) only, Catherines is having a Friends and Family sale. That means 40% off regular prices and an additional 20% off sale prices.
And you can use a coupon on top of those automatic savings, too. Code 776998528 gives you free shipping on your $75+ order, while code 776998551 gives you an extra 10% off your order, regardless of size. And don’t forget—don’t just skip over the plus-size stores if that’s not your size. Places like Catherines sometimes have cute jewelry and other accessories that are one-size-fits all!
Is it my imagination, or is the recession bringing us an awful lot of sales? Seems like I’m part of everybody‘s family, lately. Well, that’s okay with me. You offer me savings, I’ll be your sis, I guess….
Another way to get fit
My Fitness Coach for the Wii is down to just under $20 at Amazon, just in case you had a really great weekend and woke up this morning with more than the usual measure of self-loathing.
Er, I mean, it has great reviews, and I’m sure lots of people enjoy exercising more than I do. Yes. That’s what I meant to say.
Saturday deals
Good morning! I’m off to the nursery today to get plants. Because it’s spring, darn it. The calendar says so. (No, I’m not so much a fan of winter; why do you ask?)
If you live someplace where the idea of starting your garden already is laughable, maybe you’d like to stay home and shop online. In which case, let me help you out.
Did you know that Dyson makes a canister vacuum? I didn’t! But it’s today’s Gold Box Deal; the Dyson DC21 (refurbished) can be yours for $299 shipped. My house is about half hard floors and half carpet, and now I’m totally confused as to which kind of vacuum I ought to have.
Hey Macy’s is having a One Day Sale today. Pretend you’re surprised.
This weekend only, Nine West shoes are just $19.95 at 6pm.com. (I’d have a hard time justifying a pair of cute wedges for my gardening chores, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t try….)
Overstock is having their Big Promo Weekend, which—near as I can tell—means 10% price cuts across several categories. It might be worth a look. Additionally, if you’re making a larger purchase, going through this link here will give you $15 off your $350+ purchase.
Are you shopping for blinds? I realize this is a different sort of plug than I ordinarily do, but I recently picked up some Levolor blinds from Blinds Galore and not only did their price beat everywhere else I looked (and you know I looked everywhere), we had a delivery issue and their customer service was out of this world in making things right. I can’t say enough nice things about them. And through Monday, March 23rd, 2009, use coupon code MARCHMADNESS to get 20% off and free shipping on your $300+ order. That’s on top of an extra 10% off Levolor products and 5% off their brand products, already. (Did I mention that I love them?)
Speaking of March Madness, if it’s finally time to get a HDTV, check out March Madness at Buy.com for some deals. And then please invite me over.
This weekend at Lands’ End, they’re offering 20% off a bunch of their new spring items, plus you can ship your entire order for free with code FAST and PIN 00003905. I do love me some free shipping from Lands’ End.
That should keep you busy for a while. (Pssssst! The stuff about gardening was a little hint. Check back later for a contest.)
Yes, LEGO Space Skulls
At first look, when I saw this LEGO Space Skulls set, I thought it was the dumbest thing I’d ever seen.
But then I found myself oddly intrigued. And now I’m trying to figure out if I can justify spending $19.98 (down from $100!) on it to put in the gift closet. Because it’s LEGO! And it’s skulls! Throw a fart joke in there and it’s every boy’s dream come true!
Do note that this is a 10+ set, so it’s not for the little guys. But it’s an exclusive user-designed set, and nearly 1,000 pieces, so perfectly awesome for giving to your favorite grown-up LEGO buff as well as a big kid.
Shipping is $5. Still, it arrives at your door for 25% of the original price. (Plus, did I mention the skulls…?)
TGIFFBTWHBTL
(Thank God It’s Finally Friday Because This Week Has Been Too Long.)
(What?)
You may recall that last week’s Amazon Friday Sale was somewhat lackluster. Will they redeem themselves this week? Let’s find out!
I’ll be honest; I think I may be a little too old for this sweater, but I sort of love it anyway. Currently select Apparel purchases come with a magazine bonus, too, which can be redeemed for a rebate.
I own these Circulon skillets (though I think I paid quite a bit more for mine). Although I have embraced cast-iron cooking here in the south, when I want an over-easy egg? It’s straight to the Circulon. Nothing sticks. Nothing.
If I didn’t have a family (and the need to make half a loaf of bread into toast at once) I would totally buy this toaster.
I keep telling myself I can’t justify buying a George Foreman Next Grilleration because we can use our patio grill all year round… but with nearly 500 positive reviews, my resolve is weakening. Also: Waffles! Paninis! Charred meat! The possibilities aren’t quite endless, but they are intriguing. It’s a neat little device, for sure.
Ooooh, the Breadman 2-pound breakmaker is down to $75 again. Very tempting. (But then what would I do when I’m angry, if I have no dough that needs hand-kneading?)
Been waiting for a great deal on a Dyson? Wait no more—they have a refurbished Dyson DC17 Animal available for $340 shipped. (And if your pets are really bad, you might want to look at the Hoover SteamVac Spinscrub Pet, too, for $140 shipped.)
Sandal season is coming! Get your feet ready!
Don’t forget to check out the Friday Five, too—five great MP3 album downloads for just $5 each, for one day only. I’m not really into vampires, but I see the Twilight soundtrack is one of today’s options. And don’t forget to check the Gold Box and Lightning Deals today, too.
Nice work, Amazon. I think you redeemed yourself. Now let’s not let a sale like last week happen again, mmkay?
Ship it all for $1.99, today only
Whoops! I almost missed this one—today (March 19th, 2009) only, your whole order at Lane Bryant ships for just $1.99, no coupon necessary.
Right now all Right Fit jeans and pants are just $29.99, and you can take another 15% off your order with coupon code 000159470 (that makes those pants just $25.49 apiece).
There’s no indication about the cheap shipping until you get into your shopping cart, so don’t panic when you don’t see anything about it on the site. Just trust me. I shall lead you to the cheap shipping, my darlings. Follow the sound of my mouse….
Summer playing: When to buy
The very pretty Kristen writes:
Hey Mir,
I have a 2-year-old and want to get her some summer/outdoor toys and was wondering if there is a good time of year to buy them and which sites/stores are good for bargains? Is it better to wait until closer to the season (i.e. May) to get some deals, or is it better to buy now? The toys I’m talking about are ones I’m sure your kids played with – like a bubble mower, picnic table, maybe one of those sand/water tables., etc.
Thanks for your help!
Ahhhh, the Big Plastic Toys of Summer. I remember those days. In fact, I vividly remember saying those words no one ever told me I would need, as a parent: “No, you may not sleep with the bubble mower. Because I said so.”
The answer, of course, is that now is the wrong time to buy. And now is exactly the right time to buy. Clear as mud, yes?
Allow me to elaborate. read more…
Great pictures, even if you’re shaky
I have a fabulous little Canon point-and-shoot camera that I really like, but it’s the generation before they came out with the version that has image stabilization. And while I don’t consider myself a particularly shaky person, there are photos I flub because the camera wasn’t perfectly still. While some “added features” on a point-and-shoot are a waste of money, that’s one feature that is absolutely worth it.
All of this is to say that if you’re looking for a camera like that, you might want to check out the Pentax Optio A40 at Buy.com today; it has “shake reduction” and is just $104.99 shipped! That’s about half what it’ll cost you anywhere else—for reference, the same camera is currently $215 at Amazon (check out the great reviews, there), and the image-stabilization version of my Canon runs $150 at Amazon.
If I was looking for a great little point-and-shoot in the $100 range, I’d scoop up that Pentax. My guess is that it’ll sell out pretty quickly, at that price.
It’s really a shame I haven’t dropped my camera, in fact. (Too bad I’m too frugal to drop it accidentally-on-purpose, huh?)
Get your panties (and bras, and stuff) on
It’s that time, again—time for the Bare Necessities 20% off Sale, with an extra 30% off already reduced clearance prices.
While there’s plenty on sale and I wouldn’t presume to tell you what sort of undergarments to purchase (I mean, we’re close, and all, but not that close…), I do want to point out that quite a few of the ordinarily never-on-sale expensive goodies are marked down, like Spanx shapers.
You already look marvelous, of course. But sometimes I whisper sweet nothings to my Spanx. I’m just saying.
