Celebrate Tax Day with free photos
Goooooood morning, and happy April 15th! Some of you are scrambling to get your taxes mailed off today, and I am not going to add to your stress by metaphorically whipping you with wet noodles, even though that’s totally what I am doing, because you should’ve had that done months ago. Honestly.
But it’s all okay, because Walgreens Photo is much kinder and gentler than I. In fact, they feel you deserve a little treat today—get 15 free 4″x 6″ prints today with code TAXDAY. Just order them online and they’ll be ready in about an hour for pick-up at your local store.
It’s not as good as a tax refund, but hey, free is free. And can you really put a price on your kids mugging for the camera? Exactly.
It’s O-Day, all. . . week
It’s been just about forever since Overstock did an O-Day promotion, and this one is a doozy: Through April 21st, it’s O-Day! And that means you can save 5% on any purchase (excluding media) through that there link.
So if you had your eye on something, this might be the time to swoop in and save that extra little bit….
Let them entertain you
We’ve reached that point in the year when all Entertainment books are just $15 with free shipping, which is a good deal for those of us in smaller cities and a downright awesome for those in larger metropolitan areas. (Yes, bigger areas get bigger books.)
If you’re unfamiliar with Entertainment, it’s a giant coupon book filled with everything from hotel discounts to buy-1-get-1 movie tickets to fast food to fine dining and all sorts of other things. If you plan to stay in a hotel or a rent a car at all this year, I can just about guarantee you’d make your $15 back and then some, making the rest of the coupons pure gravy.
It’s also a nice year-end gift for a teacher, if you’re starting to think about that. Just sayin’.
Bargain books from the bookmaster
Hey, remember when Amazon was for books? I mean, remember when Amazon was just for books? Yeah, me neither. (Okay, I do, ever-so-vaguely.) I tend to go there for just about everything, so sometimes I forget that they started primarily as a book store. Heh.
Well here’s a doozy of a deal that will remind you of Amazon’s roots: For a limited time, there’s this great Entertainment books deal going on—spend $25+ on qualifying books in the Entertainment category (which I don’t understand, even a little; aren’t all books entertainment??) and you’ll receive a free subscription to Us Weekly magazine.
Doesn’t sound like a deal? Think again—you can opt out of the magazine subscription and receive a $19.80 rebate, instead. Then you’ve got $25 worth of books for just $5.20, instead.
Even better still, some of the books are part of the ongoing 4-for-3 promotion, so if you choose right, you could really clean up on this deal.
Apparently it’s contest day here at Want Not
Here’s yet another contest you should be checking out: Work It, Mom! is running an entire week’s worth of contests to celebrate their first birthday! (I do write for them, but I have nothing to do with these contests. Full disclosure, and all of that.)
There’s a prize every day this week, and you just need to leave a comment each day to enter. You do not have to be a working mom, either.
Today’s prize is a momAgenda, and while that’s pretty cool, there’s even better stuff coming up later this week. (I have one word for you: Chocolate!) Lots of chances to win, folks!
[Edited to add: Um, I’m glad you’re feeling enthusiastic. This is not my contest—go leave a comment at Work It, Mom! to enter. Hee.]
Why water doesn’t have to kill you
We have a standard joke around here that every story on the news can be boiled down to “why water can kill you” or “I want my baby back.” Try it! Next time you watch the news, see if you can’t make every story fit one of those two premises. I swear it’s true.
Anyway! Ever since the news about how chemicals may be leeching out of our so-called safe polycarbonate plastics, there’s been a huge swell in popularity of the Sigg water bottles. They’re completely safe (you know, until they decide that they taint our water, too) and virtually unbreakable, and they come in about a bazillion different styles and patterns and last forever.
Last week a friend asked me if there are ever coupons available on the Siggs and I said no, they pretty much never go on sale. Lucky for her, I was completely wrong. Whoops! Actually, you can use coupon code VIP302008 at the online Sigg store to save 30% off your entire purchase.
If you’ve been thinking about ditching the plastic and moving to Sigg, I’d jump on this one.
A reason to celebrate tax day
Ooooh, those sneaky retailers, giving us savings in honor of Tax Day—I don’t know whether to curse them or praise them. I’ll just reserve judgment for the moment, then.
If you’re eying anything at DisneyShopping, you have until April 15th, 2008, to use coupon code TAXBREAK to take $15 off your $60+ order! That can be stacked with the SHIPFOR5 coupon, which gives you a flat $5 shipping fee on orders of $50+ (that one is good through April 27th, 2008). And! Both codes also work in the Outlet, too!
I don’t know that I’d call it a reason to get up early on a Monday, but it definitely helps….
Calling all Harry Potter fans!
I’m going to have a great new contest for you tomorrow morning, but in the meantime, if you’re a big fan of Harry Potter you won’t want to miss the Beedle the Bard Ballad Writing Contest over at Amazon.
It’s open to muggles age 13+, and you could win a weekend in London to check out J.K. Rowling’s The Tales of Beedle the Bard, of which there are only seven copies in the entire world. Hurry up—you’ve only got until April 22nd, 2008, to enter.
Saturday deals
We’re off to soccer (of course) but I am passing the shopping torch on to all of you. If I can imagine that someone else is getting a good deal while I’m standing in the mud cheering “That’s it! Kick the ball! Um, this ball! Okay!” then I will be much more cheerful.
Need luggage? Sierra Trading Post is offering 20% off all luggage and travel items—just use coupon code ALUG8.
Gear up for summer reading; Buy 2 of their favorite paperbacks and the 3rd is free, through April 30th, 2008.
Gear up for summer viewing: Buy 2 and get 1 free at the History Channel Store, or Buy 2 and get 1 free at the A&E Channel Store.
Have your eye on something at CompUSA? Get up to 10% back on your purchase when you pay with Paypal at CompUSA.com (details on the right sidebar on their page)! Their top 10 deals of the week should give you a place to start browsing….
Of course, over at Circuit City select items are 15% off automatically, this weekend.
Through April 14th, order your Mother’s Day gift from Harry and David and get free delivery with coupon code DAISY.
Take $5 off your $100+ purchase at Overstock this weekend through that there link. It’s not a lot, but every little bit counts, right?
Wait, what happened to Thursday?
Normally the Amazon Friday Sale gives me nothing but cause for celebration, but today I just can’t get happy about it. The problem, you see, is that I misplaced Thursday. I mean, I had it right here a second ago….
Hmph. Oh well.
Dude! Blue suede shoes! (Sadly, Amazon/Endless is wising up to the pricematch, but if you want these I’d still get them from Endless so that you’ll have free return shipping if needed.)
Awww… Fido needs a lunchbox. And a pink coat. And a special Dustbuster!
It’s been awhile since we had some cheap sheets. (There’s also these, but the reviews are mixed.)
If you’ve been wanting a fancy heating pad this is a great price, plus you can save $10 more on a special offer if you buy $29+ of the included products (the offer is outlined on the product page) with coupon code SUNBMAP8.
Gearing up for camping season? Don’t forget the camp mats!
Why yes, I am still drooling over the shiny Kitchenaid mixer, thanks for asking. (Not that I wouldn’t go for the blue steel one to go with my kitchen, if I had to….)
I really sort of want a mandoline, and it cracks me up that this one of part of the 4-for-3 promotion. Because you never know when you’ll want to buy 4 mandolines, I guess. (You could just find other stuff eligible for the 4-for-3, but I prefer to think of folks picking up mandolines four at a time.)
Enjoy your Friday, everyone!
