Class parties
Tis the season for just this sort of question, methinks.
Hello pretty talented clever Mir,
Please provide any advice regarding how to get the most bang for your buck when hosting a class party for 5th graders. Somehow I was elected Room Mom and will be organizing 3 parties this year. I am not very creative but am an organizer! I will probably have about $100 dollars to spend on all three parties and hope other great Moms will donate some goodies.
A dedicated reader,
Stephanie
Wow, I’m impressed that in your school system you get any money at all. Around here, parents are expected to donate everything. Not that I’m bitter. Ahem. Anyway, I’m sure you can whip up a great party with the help of the other parents and a few careful bits of shopping. read more…
Like Legos?
Right now, you can get free shipping with your order of $99 or more at the Lego Store. Check out that “Store Features” scrollbox on the right, then select “Sales and Deals” to see the stuff that’s marked down. (For example: Maybe now you can get that special someone that Ferrari
he’s always wanted!)
Truly spooky and not for the faint-of-heart
I… can’t believe I’m posting this.
So, uh, the CEO of 7-Eleven appeared on Letterman and offered a special to the viewers:
Walk into any 7-Eleven between now and November 1st and say “Trick or treat, give me meat” to receive your choice of a free hot dog or a free 4-ounce package of beef jerky. That’s scarier than a haunted house!
I dare you.
When indecision threatens all
This isn’t my usual sort of “retail gone wrong” thing, I just got a giggle out of it and had to share. Thanks to Karen for sending me the link!
Rock ‘n’ roll for less
Has Junior been begging you for an electric guitar? Have you commenced stabbing forks into your eardrums to drown out his relentless begging?
Then I have two pieces of excellent news for you!
First, because you already stabbed yourself in the eardrums, you won’t be able to hear him practice. Second, right now you can pick up this Yamaha guitar with accessory kit and amp for just $99.99 shipped. It’s not the greatest guitar out there, but it is a great price on a starter set-up.
And it comes in your choice of red, blue or yellow. Because it’s just that cool.
Clearance at Kohl’s
Looks like the clearance at Kohl’s was just marked down again, in addition to their regular “these are the biggest deals we’ve ever had!” markdowns on, um, just about everything.
Get your order up to $75 and receive free shipping, no code needed. And if you have a local Kohl’s, well then if you’re not up to $75 maybe you’ll throw in a couple of things to get it up there, and then return them to the store. Not that I’d suggest you do that. That would probably be wrong. Even though it would save you the ridiculous Kohl’s shipping charges.
If you’ve got a Kohl’s charge card, you can use coupon code OCTNEWCARD for an additional 15% off your order. Otherwise, I think NEW9829 works for everyone for 10% off.
eBay it all, two dimes at a time
Do you sell things on eBay? Today is $.20 listing day, where you pay just $.20 as your insertion fee on listings, regardless of starting price.
I wouldn’t run out and start selling things just to take advantage of this, but if you were planning on auctioning some stuff, already, today would be a good day to do it.
Mmmmm. . . delicious processed transfats
Today, October 25th, most U.S. McDonald’s restaurants are participating in a “Burger Day” promotion. (I’m not sure what the occasion is. Us being the fattest nation on the planet, maybe? Hooray!) I’m also not sure if Canada is participating.
Geez, I don’t seem to know much of anything.
What I do know is that participating restaurants are doing discounted hamburgers/ cheeseburgers, either $.49/$.59 or $.39/$.49. Not a bad time to make a fast-food run, particularly if you have a gaggle of kids.
Um, not right now, though. Later. For lunch, or maybe dinner. Just work on breakfast for right now. I’ll take a cup of coffee, for starters.
Stay smooth
It’s three freebies for the price of one! (And our favorite price, at that.)
How timely; I was just noticing this morning that Lizard Skin Season seems to be arriving early this year….
Big plastic things for your kids
Honestly, what did we play with when we were kids, before there was all manner of Big Plastic Objects? Oh, I know; we played with pots and pans and knives and guns, and we liked it. Right.
Anyway, if you’ve been considering a big plastic purchase for the anklebiter in your life, now’s the time.
First, receive free shipping at Little Tikes on your $200+ order with coupon code GHOL2295. Good through November 15th, 2006.
Next, there’s a special kitchen promo happening at Step2. Get free shipping on their three most popular kitchens through November 6th, 2006.
For the Grand Walk-In Kitchen use coupon code 6Grand. For the PartyTime Kitchen use coupon code party06. And for the Deluxe Kitchen use coupon code deluxe.
I am only a little depressed that these kitchens seem nicer than my actual kitchen….
