I forget who, exactly, got me started with coconut oil, but I’ve become a crazy person. I use it in everything. I tell people about it. Did I ever chat about olive oil, or canola oil? No, of course not. But coconut oil. Dude. Oh, you like those cookies I made? Let me tell you all about the coconut oil I used in them. Okay, I’ll stop. Though this is a good, quick read if you want to know more about the health benefits. (Confession: I mostly just think it makes things taste good.)
Anyway, I usually buy my coconut oil from Amazon (pretend you’re shocked) and that tends to run about $12-$14 for 30 ounces; sometimes it’s less when I catch a sale.
But right now I’m almost out and don’t want to wait for my next Subscribe & Save order, so instead I’m snapping us today’s Cyber Steal at GNC, instead, because it’s 32 ounces of coconut oil for just $9.99. Use coupon code ABCART to take off another 15%, making it just $7.74! [Edited to add: Alert readers are indicating that using the coupon code may restore regular-price shipping. Maybe don’t use the code if you don’t have ShopRunner.] That is crazy cheap for organic coconut oil.
Shipping is currently just a dollar, or if you have ShopRunner, it’s free.
Anybody know how to get the $1 shipping? It’s charging me $5 instead.
I think if you use the 15% off code, you get charged regular shipping. It may be cheaper not to use the coupon code. I bought 3 and it was about the same with or without the coupon code, once you added in shipping.
I wonder if that may be it. I have ShopRunner so I wasn’t able to test shipping otherwise. Thanks for the feedback!
Do you use coconut oil for beauty purposes, too? I’ve started putting it in my hair for several hours before I wash it, and my hair looks better than it has in ages. I love it as a substitute for body lotion, too. Of course, it helps that I really like the smell of coconut.
I have not, yet, but I’ve heard it’s great for all kinds of things.
I don’t like the way coconut tastes or smells. Does it taste like coconut?
That seems like a silly question, but olive oil doesn’t taste like olives. And vegetable oil doesn’t taste like vegetables …
The Nutiva coconut oil does taste faintly of coconut. The last coconut oil I bought (Jarrow) didn’t taste like anything. I haven’t had this kind before so I’m not sure; the container says it’s tasteless and odorless, though.
You rock! Just returned from a mammoth grocery trip & realized I was nearly out of coconut oil…and couldn’t bear the thought of going back. Thank you for saving me time, money, and at least 3% of my sanity!
Super deal—thanks!
I’m a bit late to the discussion, but….been trying to add more coconut oil to our diet. Does anyone have a source for recipes or tips for substitutions using it??
I use it in baking, Janie, anywhere regular oil or butter is called for. I also add it to rice and fry tofu in it.
