Say it with shiny, shiny hearts
Let’s be clear: I don’t really believe in Valentine’s Day. I mean, I feel like it’s one of those made-up sorts of holidays, and I do not demand chocolate and flowers and jewelry just because Hallmark said I should. I think that would be kind of silly.
Nevertheless, a lot of folks really love Valentine’s Day, and who am I to judge what works for someone else? If hearts and shiny jewelry are your personal path to happiness, enjoy. Also, check out these ruby heart earrings at Amazon, because the current price of $30 is their lowest ever, and a steal for even lab-created rubies of this size. Perfect for Valentine’s Day!
These would also be perfect for a teenager—nice enough to be considered actual “fine jewelry,” cheap enough that it’s not a crisis if she loses one. Just sayin’.
Eat out, save big
It’s time once again for that most hallowed of occasions… a discount code for Restaurant.com. Gone are the days when there was pretty much always a code. Alas! But, with vigilance, we shall soldier on, and continue buying certificates that make dining out affordable once again.
Today and tomorrow (January 28-29), use coupon code BOWL to take 60% off your purchase. So those $25 certificates which are normally $10—already a good deal—are now just $4, and with the $21 you save you can hire a sitter, or have a couple of glasses of wine, or whatever. It’s up to you. But if you don’t want to save $21, I can’t help you.
Guilt-free snacking just got even better
Today’s Amazon Gold Box is stuffed full of Popchips! They’ve got both the original chips and their tortilla chips, all in a variety of flavors and sizes. Buy ’em at the low prices listed, or sign up for Subscribe & Save to get an additional 5% off and free shipping.
Popchips are my favorite “junk food” to send in my kids’ lunchboxes. They think I caved and bought them real junk, but I know these chips are actually all-natural, low in fat, and free of icky stuff. (And because they’re all certified gluten-free, I can sneak some when I need a snacking fix, too.)
Bag a little somethin’, 49% off
It just so happens that right now Cost Plus World Market is currently offering a coupon which will take 49% off any single non-sale item. Just use code WM49 for the savings. No biggie, I guess, because shipping will kill the deal, right?
… not so fast! Everything in the Valentine’s Day section is shipping for free, right now, so even if you just want to nab some half-off chocolate, why not? It’s cheap and ships for free, and that’s for me. (Er, and you. I’ll share.)
Black Friday on this chilly Saturday
If you’re in the market for electronics, for some reason Best Buy is doing a “Winter Doorbusters Day” event today that includes Black Friday-esque pricing on various goodies.
So sure, yes, you can get a cheap Windows laptop or big TV, but please allow me to direct your attention to the best deal in the bunch: $200 off MacBook Airs. That means the base model 11.6″ is just $800 brand spankin’ new! (Though I do notice that one is already out of stock for shipping—you can add it to your cart and check to see if you can pick it up at your local store.) If you’re a Mac type, this is a great deal on my favorite laptop ever. (My Air fits in an envelope in my purse and weighs next to nothing. His name is Flatso. True story!)
Got sheets?
I can’t vouch for the quality of these—although 300TC, 100% cotton, “hotel quality” sounds promising—but one of Tanga‘s Daily Deals today is queen or king sheet sets at just $25 shipped. My feeling is that at that price point, it’s probably worth the gamble, even if it just ends up being the backup set of sheets, suitable for when everything else is in the laundry.
Choose from six different colors, too. Usually when they have a deal like this your only choice is between, say, chartreuse and black. Hooray for normal colors like white! (Yes, I’m boring. No need to remind me.)
TGIK
(That’s “Thank God It’s Kohlsday,” by the way.)
There’s a 2-Day Sale on at Kohls right now, with plenty of the usual reductions, but it also looks to me like they just put a slew of new items into the Clearance section. If you haven’t spent your Kohls Cash from last time, there’s still time to redeem it now.
Everyone can use coupon code EXCLUSIVE today for 20% off your order, and everyone gets free shipping on $75+, automatically.
There’s a ton of that new (I guess it’s not really new, anymore) Narciso Rodriguez stuff in the clearance section. I remember kind of looking when they unveiled the line and moving on because of the prices, but now… hmmmm….
Because you can always use more bricks
So your kid begged and begged for a particular LEGO set, and you delivered, and that was exciting for a while. But now the whatever-it-was has been disassembled, and the kid is complaining that there aren’t enough pieces to build something else.
I like to buy the sets because the prices fluctuate and that’s how you get deals; the boxes of bricks usually just stay at the same price. But today, you can snag the 704-piece Bricks & More box at Amazon for just under $35—its lowest price ever, there. Considering that it includes a base plate and a couple of minifigs (and how expensive those items usually are on their own), you’ve practically paid for it right there… the other bricks are just gravy.
I finally figured it out
I’ve long wondered what’s the best way to describe Sierra Trading Post to the uninitiated. And I think I’ve finally figured it out! Basically, Sierra Trading Post is what would happen if 6pm.com and LL Bean had a baby. So there you go. (In short: Clothing—some sporty, some fancy—plus sporting gear and random home goods. You’re welcome.)
Right now there’s a big “Price Slash Sale” going on at Sierra Trading Post, so the prices are already pretty good. But we all know you can make it better with a coupon, right? Right. Use coupon code ALSTART3 for 20% off any order, or use coupon code ALJAN3 for 25% off your $125+ order or 30% off your $200+ order.
I never know what I’m going to find at STP, but I often find something I didn’t know I needed at a price I can’t possibly pass up. Still trying to decide if that’s a good thing….
Indoor energy? Jump it away!
If you have a small child who’s currently trapped indoors more often than is healthy due to frigid temperatures, or if you have a kid who just always needs to be in motion, you’ve no doubt considered one of those kiddie trampolines at some point. I think they’re fantastic, but the price tends to be a little steep.
For example, right now this Alex Little Jumpers Trampoline at Amazon will run you right around $100, and that’s not chump change.
Fortunately, the very same trampoline is available through Groupon Goods right now for just $55 (and that includes shipping)! At that price, it certainly seems like an easier purchase to justify. Kids up to 80 pounds can bounce indoors, with the padded safety handle they will almost certainly neglect to use (just being realistic), and you can maybe retain your sanity on even the coldest of snow days.
I am seriously considering the “adult version” of this for my younger teenager. Sadly, there’s no Groupon deal on that one.
