Celebrate “Green Monday” with a Woot-Off

I’d never heard the term “Green Monday” until this year, but apparently it’s the Monday that falls at least 10 days before Christmas. In other words, it tends to be a big shopping day, presumably as people recover from the weekend and realize oh noes, I don’t have a gift for my crazy Aunt Bertha yet.

You, of course, are far too smart and pretty to still be scrambling around with your holiday shopping, but you never know when an unexpected situation could arise. Like, a last-minute party invitation. Or your crazy Aunt Bertha suddenly decides to come to town. Or you’re ready to buy a little something for yourself. Hey, I don’t judge. I just giddily report that there’s a Woot-Off going on, which means rotating deals all day at Woot, Kids.Woot, Home.Woot, Sport.Woot, and—everybody’s favorite at this most magical time of year—Wine.Woot. (Someone busted my chops last time for always mentioning that Wine.Woot isn’t just wine, but in December, sure, I’ll remind you that they have stemware and snacks and all, but yes, I recommend the actual wine.)

Don’t forget that $5 pays for an entire day’s worth of shipping across all Woot sites, making it cheaper than ever to Woot-Off with abandon. Happy hunting!

Batteries for the early birds

Anyone else having trouble sleeping? Just me…? If you’re up early today, there’s a great deal on batteries in the Amazon Lightning Deals—they’ve got a 34-pack of Duracells (choose either AA or AAA) available for $13.99, which is already a pretty sweet deal. But you can make it even better by visiting the product page before adding it to your cart via Lightning Deal, because there’s also a $2 off coupon you can clip, there.

$12 for all the batteries you’ll need for those new toys and remotes? I don’t know if it makes insomnia worth it, but it’s a nice deal, nonetheless.

Well, that’s horrifying

I guess because my kids are teens, I somehow missed the latest hey-this-is-kind-of-terrifying-and-your-kid-loves-it craze, the CuddleUppets. (See also: Pillow Pets.) So the idea here is that you need a cozy throw blanket… with a head… and feet… so that it’s like wearing the skin of a good friend. Oh, sure, that sounds perfectly normal and sweet!

If you’re not as easily disturbed as I am, and/or if you have a kid dying for one of these things, it looks like the regular retail is between $15-$20. Right now Amazon has the Pink Poodle CuddleUppet and the Yellow Dog CuddleUppet available for $9.99 and $12.99, respectively. Free Prime shipping, or eligible for free Super Saver Shipping on $25+.

May as well save some money while you’re giving me nightmares.

Somewhat sneaky Nintendo 3DS deals

Still looking for a Nintendo 3DS on Santa’s behalf? Best Buy has tons of regular and XL options in stock and $40 off, which is great news.

The better news is that they also have a 3DS XL Mario Kart bundle available for $160—also $40 off retail, and actually the price of just the XL on its own right now—but when you do a search on 3DSs it doesn’t show up because they’re sneaky. Weird. Search on mario kart 3ds and it’ll come up, if you’d rather have that one. (It also came up as “not available for shipping” for me but then let me put one in my cart and select a shipping address. So I have no idea what’s going on with the site right now. I tried to test it for you as far as I could without buying it, so that’s all I know.)

They all ship for free, too, which is nice, because we know that mostly only suckers pay for shipping.

Deck the halls with lots of Beyblades

The good news, if you have a kid who loves Beyblades, is that all of these are quite cheap at Amazon right now. The bad news is that all but one of them are Add-On Items, which means you need to spend $25+ in order to get free shipping even if you have Prime. (But did you know you can meet the threshold by buying only Add-Ons? It’s true! You could just buy $25 worth of Beyblades, if you wanted.)

Me, just now, to my kid: “Are these really usually $12 or more apiece? They’re tops, right?”
My kid: “They’re special tops, Mom.”

Okay then. Here you go:
Beyblade Phantom Orion for $3.60 (70% off)
Beyblade Scythe Kronos for $3.99 (67% off)
Beyblade Toxic Stinger Scorpio for $4.40 (69% off)
Beyblade Spiral Lyre for $4.40 (63% off)
Beyblade Shadow Fortune Zurafa for $5.38 (62% off) (this one is not an Add-On)

But between you and me? I still think these are just tops.

Stocking stuffers galore at One Kings Lane

There’s an entire boutique filled with “witty stocking stuffers” over at One King’s Lane, today, and the good news is that if you’ve never signed up with them, they’re still offering a $15 credit for registering! (If you have signed up with them before… ummm… maybe if you had another email address you might sign up again because you, y’know, forgot about your other account.)

I have a real love/hate relationship with them; on the one hand, I find a lot of their stuff so overpriced even at a “discount” it’s laughable; on the other hand, their cheaper items tend to be good deals, and I’ve loved absolutely everything I ever ordered from them. Do with that information what you will.

Mario meets K’Nex

So if your kid is really into building toys like K’Nex, but lately you haven’t been able to pry him off of Mario Kart on the Wii, take heart—there’s an entire line of Nintendo Mario Kart-themed K’Nex just for you.

Unfortunately, like most K’Nex, it’s kind of expensive.

Fortunately, ’tis the season for price drops. Right now at Amazon, these sets are available on the cheap, and I would probably bet my dog that we’ll be seeing some more price drops as the month progresses (and you know how I feel about my dog!):
Nintendo Toads Side-Stepper Challenge Building Set for $7.99 (77% off)
Nintendo Diddy Kong And Standard Kart Building Set for $4.50 (70% off)
Nintendo Luigi And Standard Kart Building Set for $4.49 (50% off)

If you like these, keep an eye out—there’s a ton of these sets to be had, and you could potentially end up filling a room with the Mario Kart universe. Heh.

Could you, would you, get more Seuss?

Terribly nerdy confession: I started collecting Dr. Seuss books years before I had my first child. I just love them that much. They’re pretty much how both my kids learned to read. And even now that my youngest is nearly a teenager, we still have most of the books. Just because.

If your Dr. Seuss library needs beefing up, take a look at this special at Amazon: Buy two qualifying Seuss titles and get a third for free. Some of them aren’t actually Seuss books, though, just in case you’re a purist. There’s P.D. Eastman and other I Can Read titles in there.

Want the best bang for your buck? Pick the ones that are collections, and you’ll end up with over a dozen books, instead of just three. (Here, let me help: My Big Book of Beginner Books About Me for $10.87, My Big Blue Book of Beginner Books for $10.87, and The Little Blue Box of Bright and Early Board Books by Dr. Seuss for $13.57.)

Or you could just go for the classics. As far as I’m concerned, everyone need more green eggs and ham.

Get ready for more Nerfery

One of my favorite parts of the December toy markdowns is when everything Nerf starts being dirt cheap. Not because I buy any of it, mind you, but because I enjoy it when my friend with three boys calls me up and says, “Well, I had to buy the boys more weapons. I hope you’re happy.” (And I totally am!)

Anyway, the party’s just getting started, but already the Nerf N-Strike Elite Hail-Fire Blaster is down to just under $25—38% off its retail price of $40, and an unexpected discount to see just before the holidays. Usually the lesser guns and the accessories get marked down, but the big behemoths like this don’t. So hey, score if you’re in the market for massive Nerf firepower.

Less surprising, but even better, are discounts on two accessories you might want if you buy this blaster (or have any other N-Strike model): the Nerf N-Strike Flip Clip Refill is just $4.99 (69% off) and the Nerf N-Strike Elite Bandolier Kit is $7.34 (51% off). Perfect for making sure you never run out of darts!

And now—because no Nerf post would be complete without it—let us all bow our heads and remember: It’s all fun and games until you shoot your eye out, kid.

Wind up your week with Kohls

I got an email this morning from Kohls that cheerfully proclaimed “Just 18 more shopping days until Christmas!” and then I died. Just so you know.

But hey, I came back to life to let you know that they’re running a ton of Night Owl and Early Bird specials—it at all starts at 3:00 p.m. Eastern this afternoon, looks like, except for the “Dream Deals” which are already live—and everyone can use coupon code FFDEC20P for an extra 20% off absolutely everything. You’ll also earn $10 Kohls Cash for every $50 you spend, and everyone gets free shipping on $50+ orders. (Remember that if you don’t quite make it up to $50… well… you can always return extras at your local store, after the Christmas rush has subsided. It’s probably cheaper/less annoying than paying shipping.)

I’m trying really hard not to look (aided by the fact that I’m currently sitting in an office with very spotty wireless), but I don’t know if I can keep it up all weekend.
