Your daily reminder (once more, with feeling)
Okay kids; you know the drill! Be checking the Amazon Lightning Deals all day for great bargains. In just a few minutes there’s a deal coming up on a Philosophy Amazing Grace set. I have no idea how good the price will be, but I can tell you I adore that scent—nice and light and fresh.
There’s plenty of other deals in every department, too. One of the featured Gold Box deals today is The Complete Adventures of Indiana Jones on Blu-ray for just $39.99, today only. That’s all four movies, on five discs (extra included), and I think it’s about time to introduce my son to “Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?”
Plasma me, baby
I remember being so proud of myself when I got us our first flat-screen television, a couple of years ago. It’s a nice one, 50″ (which seemed positively gigantic at the time, but now we are spoiled and it just seems “normal”). I paid $700 and patted myself on the back for months about it.
Well, now you can pat yourself on the back for a much better deal: If you go over to Dell today and click on the “Days of Deals” link, you’ll see—among other things—a 50″ LG 1080p Plasma HDTV for just $399. Shipping is free, though I think most folks will have to pay tax.
For reference, the same TV is around $690 at Amazon, and the reviews are great.
But I still like my TV. Hey, at the time, it was a really good deal. This is just… a way better one.
Special American Girl offer today
I can’t imagine this will last long, but in conjunction with Jill’s Steals and Deals (an ongoing Today Show segment), this morning you can get an unheard of crazy discount at American Girl on either the Marie-Grace or Cecile dolls (just $50 apiece!) or on their doll canopy bed.
Frankly, I think the bed is still overpriced, but a brand new AG doll for just $50? That’s a steal, for real. Good luck if you’re going for it!
Start spreading the news…
Been hard at work shopping for everyone else, and now you’re thinking about a little something to wear to your upcoming holiday parties? New York & Company has you covered—today only, you can use coupon code 3649 for 40% off everything and free shipping on your entire order!
Sadly, it does not work on clearance and “NY Deal” items, but it does work on things that are merely “on sale” rather than clearanced, so there’s still plenty of great deals to be had.
Of course they have some beautiful accessories that would make good gifts, too, if you’re needing an extra bit of justification. Er, I mean, in case you’re still gift shopping.
Fa la la la toasty hands
Whether you use them for stocking stuffers, donations, or just to include with other winter-themed gifts this season, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better price on this 40-count case of Grabbers handwarmers at Amazon than its current price of $14.99.
Of course, here in Georgia it was 75 degrees out today, so that case would probably last my family a decade or more. But maybe you actually live somewhere cold.
I’m Batman
(Please note: I am not, in fact, Batman. My son randomly started saying this to us any time he wanted to get a laugh. It’s become the family catchphrase. Try it! It’s impossible to stay mad at someone who just told you that they’re Batman.)
So anyway, probably you’re not Batman, either, but you can get 5 Blu-ray discs of Dark Knight goodness right now at Amazon for an all-time-lowest price of just $27.96. That’s Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises, plus special features.
Bonus points if you shriek, “I’M BATMAN!” at any point during viewing, after you buy ’em.
The easiest way to do Toys For Tots
Once those Amazon toy clearance deals start (very soon… probably next week), longtime readers know I seize the opportunity to re-stock my gift closet with cheap finds. Some of it gets donated this year, but a lot of it I’ll just put away and pull out to donate next holiday season.
If you want to make sure kids in need get to have a great holiday, but you don’t have the time/energy/money to shop, here’s a fantastic way to help out with as little as $5: Tanga is accepting Toys For Tots donations in $5 increments, and they’ll match customer donations up to $10,000. Toys For Tots isn’t necessarily your thing? You can choose to donate to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, instead. Either way, your money goes twice as far, it’s fast and easy, and ’tis the season.
Thumbs up, Tanga. Thanks for doing this again.
Final day to save at eBags
If you need luggage (or a new purse, or a tote, or whatever), today’s the day to check out the savings at eBags—they’re taking an extra 30% off nearly everything, though today’s the last day for it.
The best bargain I’m seeing is their “Steal of the Day” (click the little button up top on their page), which right now is a 5-piece Samsonite luggage set for just $84. Even with shipping, it’s still under $100, and a perfect starter set for someone who’s heading off to college or on a program abroad or something.
Then again, I have luggage envy. The suitcases I took to England for my semester abroad in 1991 are still in my attic. True story.
Get Touched
The Deal of the Day today at Cowboom is a 32GB 4th generation iPod Touch for just $120, which is… kind of crazy. I kind of freaked out when I saw the price. (For reference: a couple of months ago I got a 16GB one, same generation, for my kiddo at $140 and thought I’d truly scored.) This could be a great option if you’ve been shopping for a Touch and don’t want to pay full price for the latest/greatest.
Some things to know before you buy:
This is not the current generation. This is one before the current one. Unless you’re planning to do a lot of photography/photo editing, I don’t know that that makes a difference. The changes in the current generation are pretty minimal, otherwise.
This is a refurb. You know how I feel about refurbished electronics—I love them! But this one is listed as having “significant scratches or scuffs.” Maybe not a big deal to you (slap a case on there and you’re probably good), but if it’s for a gift, maybe it is a big deal.
This is totally bare bones. You don’t get a power adapter, headphones, or a user’s manual. Again, this isn’t a huge deal—it’s not hard to get these things at a reasonable price, and if you’ve owned a few Apple products, you probably already have most or all of them—but if it’s for a gift, consider if that’s okay with you.
If you got through all of that and still want one, do hurry up, because I predict this deal will sell out. That’s a pretty nutty price.
We wish you a merry platypus
My dog pretty much believes toys are for destroying, but when my parents got their new dog last year, she had one of these Kyjen Puzzle Plush Platypus toys and it was hilarious. The squeaky eggs fit inside, and if your dog isn’t a callous murderer like mine, she’ll root around in there to retrieve them.
Right now Amazon has it for just $5.93 shipped with Prime, their lowest price ever. In fact, at that price, I may just get one and let Licorice rip it up. Poor platypus.
