Santa hats for everyone

Ha, I love it—today Pottery Barn Kids is offering free shipping on every single order with coupon code FREESHIP. If you take a look at their Santa hat, those are just $9 apiece for the kids with free monogramming today (it’s normally $7/item). So cute!

There’s plenty of other stuff on sale, of course, but the free personalization is what gets me. Those of us with names other than Jennifer and Michael get excited about such things.

The bonus TV

Amazon has been throwing a few off-brand televisions into the mix in the Lighting Deals, the last couple of weeks, but my general rule of thumb with large electronics is to buy the best brand you can afford, maybe at a smaller size, because the quality will be worth it.

And that brings us to why I still have a circa 1996 19″ analog television in the bedroom. Hey, it still works! But… yeah. Anyway, we watch TV in there maybe once a month, so I’m having a hard time justifying a replacement. And I know not to buy a crummy brand in desperation. But I’m feeling a little bit tempted by this 24″ LG LED set (this is a link to their 2-Day Sale, and the TV should be right there on the top right) that’s down to $160 with free shipping at Best Buy right now. True, it’s 720p rather than 1020p (though if you’re more than about six feet from the set, the human eye can’t tell the difference; our main set is 720p and I’m very happy with it), but LG is a fantastic brand and that’s a nice price. (For reference: My guess is that this model is discontinued; Amazon only has a refurb option, and that’s going for $190.)

If you need a little TV for somewhere in your house, you could do a lot worse, is all I’m saying.

One more day to help the elves

Those of you who follow me on Twitter may have noticed that I had a wee bit of a panic last night. See, every year the elves bring brand new, matching pajamas for the kidlets on Christmas Eve. Generally I am right on top of this—of course I help the elves do their shopping!—but somehow I forgot about it this year. And then when I remembered, I remembered that with a teenager and an almost-teenager, many of my go-to pajama places were going to be out of reach in terms of the sizes I need. And as I started looking at stores that carry coordinating jammies for the whole family, I started feeling faint from sticker shock. (*coughcoughHannacoughcough*) Cue the panic!

Except don’t, because eventually I remembered that actually, Children’s Place makes their cozy snowman fleece pajamas in adult sizes, too. Crisis averted!

I placed my order last night, but lucky for you, they’ve extended their current Friends & Family promotion for one more day—so if you shop today, get free shipping on every order, and use coupon code FRIEND30HPK2K for an additional 30% off everything.

Those $30 adult pajamas come down to $20, which, don’t get me wrong, is a lot more than this cheapskate normally spends on jammies, but it’s doable. Especially when you consider the number of heartwarming photos we’ll get of the children looking embarrassed and sullen.

Time to hit the Creek

Right now at Coldwater Creek, all orders ship for free, automatically. Not only that, but full-price items are 30% off (see, they just created a hole in the space-time continuum, because now those items aren’t full-price anymore; sheesh!), and sale items are an extra 50% off when you put them in your cart.

That’s all pretty sweet. But wait, there’s more! No, not a year’s supply of Turtle Wax. Who wants to wear Turtle Wax?? No, you can apply coupon code AFLF395 on top of those automatic discounts to get another 25% off. I may or may not have just paid $12 shipped for a blouse that was supposedly $80, originally.

Your daily reminder, plus quick product reviews

Are you still checking the Amazon Lightning Deals? They’re still going, with the occasional gem of a deal sandwiched inbetween a bunch of stuff that makes you go “Huh?”

I’ll confess that this time of year, I do my own fair bit of shopping. Ahem. I thought I’d give you a quickie rundown on a few recent purchases that made me happy, to do with what you will. (I am not being compensated in any way for any of this, and all products mentioned were bought with my own money. This is just stuff I like and want to tell you about.)

Electrolux Ergorapido Ultra 2 In 1 Stick Vacuum. I got this on a Lightning Deal for $59 (and as we all know, Lightning Deals have a way of repeating, so if you’re interested, keep an eye out). I bought it because both our Shark stick vac and our little Dustbuster have seen better days. It’s only been a week but so far I love this so much. The suction is excellent, having a light on the front is actually pretty nice, and I’m totally digging the 2-in-1 construction. I cut my son’s hair this morning and it sucked up a ton of hair afterward, no problems. Speaking of that…

Wahl 79524-2501 Chrome Pro 24-Piece Haircut Kit. I have been cutting my family’s hair for… pretty much forever. This is my fourth set of clippers, and a completely un-planned-for purchase because my previous set is lost. (I don’t know. I cannot explain. They have to be somewhere here in the house, but my boys have grown shaggy as I continued insisting it would turn up. It never did.) You have no idea how annoyed I was to have to buy a new set, and I bought them at the current price ($26.97), which isn’t bad but isn’t the greatest steal ever. All of that said: These are the nicest clippers I’ve ever owned. They work great, they have every possible blade guard you might want, and they feel the best in my hand of any I’ve had (nice ergonomic design). Also, my kid tends to do interpretive dance while I’m cutting, and he didn’t end up with any bald spots. So there’s that. [Don’t think you can cut hair? You totally can! There’s tons of YouTube videos and such to get you started. This is a great way to save money and justify your own salon visits. Trust me.]

And finally, about a month ago at Fab.com (sorry, it’s not available there anymore, but I just got it in the mail last week), they had a bundle deal on The Elements: A Visual Exploration of Every Known Atom in the Universe and the matching 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle. These will be Christmas gifts for my science-obsessed nerdling, but I can tell you right now that the book, in particular, is a bargain at any price. It is gorgeous but it’s also incredibly interesting and, unexpectedly, really funny. I am sneaking reading it at night because it’s just that good, and I am the person who used to fall asleep in science class.

Have an product recommendations to share from your recent shopping…?

Don’t miss this Crabtree and Evelyn deal

I almost missed it, but there’s still time—the Cyber Week specials at Crabtree and Evelyn have been extended through today, as has automatic free shipping on all orders!

That’s pretty sweet, but it gets even better; use coupon code THANKS99 for an extra 20% off, too.

There’s also various promos depending on how much you spend. Oooh, they have such pretty nailpolishes, and they’re on special. Anyone know if they’re any good? (Eh, with free shipping and an extra 20% off, stocking stuffers ahoy….)

Did someone say toys?

So just in case you haven’t been able to find any toy deals lately (hahahahahaaaaaaa… I crack myself up), today’s a good day to hit up toys at Shopko—most toys are on sale, and they all ship for free.

I’m seeing lots of great stocking-stuffer type card games for everyone on your list at just $5 each. Use coupon code SAVE283 for an additional $5 off your $20+ order, too.

(Did you know there’s a Fruit Ninja card game? Is the point to wave the cards around in the air? I am baffled by app-to-physical-game adaptations, I tell you.)

[Edited to add: Shopko has LEGO Creationary for $24.99, so $20 shipped after the coupon. Amazon has Creationary for $35. Just sayin’.]

6pm wants you back, baby

Well, after some back-and-forth emailing with pretty Want Not reader Melinda this morning, I think I may have figured this one out. See, she got a 20% off code in her email to 6pm.com, and you know, that’s like having a unicorn show up in your yard. It just doesn’t happen, ordinarily. And I shop at 6pm all the time and I most emphatically did not receive a code. Hmph.

But here’s what I think: I think that if you have an account with 6pm but haven’t ordered anything in a while, they sent you a code. So if that describes you, you might want to check your email. They want to lure you back, and are willing to give you extra savings to do it.

(For the rest of us—once again, being a loyal customer doesn’t always pay off—today’s featured boutiques are still some awesome discounts. I mean, sure, yes, outerwear and shoes and such, but the up-to-75%-off dresses are perfect for those upcoming holiday parties.)

Get ’em while the getting’s good

Just another reminder about the Amazon Lightning Deals—right now there’s a Philosophy Pure Grace fragrance set available for half price!

I love the Grace scents; they’re all so light and bright. What a lovely gift that would make, and it makes you look like a big spender, too.

More dapperness for the menfolk

Now that you’ve grabbed a few ties for your favorite guy from the earlier deal, today, head on over to Jos. A. Bank for unbelievable deals on just about everything else he needs. Today and tomorrow, you can take 70% off suits and tuxedos, 60% off sportcoats and outerwear, and 40%-50% off everything else.

Plus—and this is what makes it one of their best sales—you’ll get free shipping on every order. That means that whether you’re stocking up his wardrobe or just grabbing some cufflinks, it all ships for free.

There’s nothing quite like a well-dressed man… unless it’s a well-dressed man who got a really good deal.
