We wish you a merry gigantoTV
Some of you may remember that a few Christmases ago I took the plunge and finally bought the family a HDTV, and lo, there was much rejoicing. (Much of it in the form of, “Whoa! Mario Kart is huge now!”) Apparently my children believe that the virgin birth is an okay miracle, and all, but it really can’t hold a candle to a big flat screen. (I know, I know. My darling little heathens.)
Anyway, if you have a last-minute hankering for a similarly gihugic (totally a word) surprise for your family, this morning I found that Best Buy has a 55″ Toshiba 1080p HDTV available for just $800 with free shipping. I just thought I’d check over at Amazon, too, and it turns out that they’re matching Best Buy’s price (make sure you select Amazon from the “More Buying Choices” sidebar on the right), so if you live in a state where Amazon doesn’t charge you sales tax, that’s an even better deal (and if you have Prime, you could pay the $3.99 to have it by tomorrow).
Now: reviews on this particular set are overwhelmingly positive at Best Buy, but more mixed at Amazon. Read through and decide if you’re willing to take the chance. Given the ridiculously low price for a set of this size, and the warranty coverage you’ll get from either seller, it may be a chance worth taking.
6pm to the procrastinator’s rescue!
Still need a gift or two in time for Christmas? Never fear, you still have today to order from 6pm.com and get it shipped for free and in time. Just spend $50+, order before 1:00 p.m. PST, and it’ll ship overnight for free.
Lest you think “But I don’t want to give everyone shoes!”, remember that 6pm also carried clothing, accessories, and even some toys and housewares. And if you’re still short on a few gifts, it’s hard to put a price on that free overnight shipping vs. having to hit the mall with the masses.
Double your donation money
Looking for an end-of-year way to make a charitable donation that counts? Let’s give it up for Tanga today—they’ll be matching donations made through them for Toys For Tots or Cystic Fibrosis research, up to $10,000.
Just choose how much you’d like to donate (in increments of $5), where you’d like the money to go, and they’ll match it.
Normally I dig Tanga for the whacky items, crazy t-shirts, and cheap magazines. But this actually choked me up a little. Nice work, Tanga.
In case you promised someone a pony lately
There’s still time to pick up a My Little Pony Rainbow Dash for just $6 delivered with Prime (60% off), or upgrade to free 1-day shipping and get it in time for Christmas. In addition to being on sale, this pony is just terribly fancy.
I’m always promising people ponies, but then I forget to actually buy them. Too bad I can’t get this on Subscribe and Save, huh?
Get your 11:00 fix
I can neither confirm nor deny that I just picked up some a doormat or two from Fab.com; just because they have some beautiful ones today at great prices doesn’t mean I necessarily shopped. Why, they’ve got all kinds of other items today, so maybe I bought something else entirely. Or nothing at all! It’s a mystery.
And I also cannot comment on today’s boutiques at Rue La La or One Kings Lane, because, um, I don’t want to incriminate myself.
(I swear, these daily boutiques will be the death of my checking account. But it’ll die happy.)
Nom nom nom in your stocking
If you have Amazon Prime, there’s still time to order those last few stocking stuffers. And what’s a crowd-pleaser more than chocolate? (Don’t answer that. Some things do not belong in stockings.)
Right now Amazon has a wide selection of discounted holiday candy, and the page says “up to 20% off” but really there’s prices closer to 75% off on some items. And some of those items are things like Hershey’s kisses with mint truffle filling.
Hang on, I think I just drooled on my keyboard.
You’ve got the cutest little BabyLegs (again!)
It’s time once again for the giant sale at BabyLegs—spend $75 and you can take 75% off your total with coupon code JOLLY75.
Lots of items are already out of stock, so pickings are kind of slim, but if you can find enough stuff you want, this is an unbeatable deal.
Also: The sale runs until December 28th, so maybe they’ll restock.
Build the fun
I find myself wishing my kids were just a little bit younger; I think they would’ve loved these when they were smaller. I think of all those looooong winters in the frozen north when playing inside because “so boring” and wish we’d had Toobeez back then.
What are Toobeez? Think giant Tinker Toys, ready for building life-size creations. The reviews are mixed, but the prices are at all-time lows and frankly, I can’t imagine not loving these as a little kid.
(Where? On Amazon, of course.)
Toobeez Ultimate Life Size Building Kit for $50 (67% off)
Toobeez Playhouse Kit for $70 (53% off)
Toobeez Super Fort Kit for $170 (43% off)
It would be wrong to get a set of these for my office, right? Don’t answer that.
Dine out for 90% off
It’s that time of year—through December 24th, scoop up all the Restaurant.com certificates your little heart desires for 90% off. Just use coupon code JOY and you’ll get $25 certificates for just $1, which means you’ll have enough money left over for a babysitter, or for dessert, or for a babysitter and dessert (depending on where you’re eating and how much your sitter charges).
As always, do read the fine print carefully before you buy; different restaurants have different rules, and there are often minimum purchase amounts, as well as day of the week restrictions. Still, if you can make it work, that’s $24 you get to save, plus an excuse to skip cooking.
Good morning, Sunshine!
This morning I woke up to a dog pouncing on the bed. And that’s not a bad way to wake up, generally, but our dog weighs about 12 pounds, and the dog on the bed was my parents’ black lab puppy (headed straight for my face). I tell you what, that’s a faster wake-up than a double espresso.
And now that I’m up (and have had some actual coffee, and have played with both dogs), let’s see what’s falling in price at Amazon!
Lovely LEGO:
World Racers Desert of Destruction for $55 (39% off)
Pharaoh’s Quest Rise of the Sphinx for $30 (40% off)
Games, games, games:
Blokus Junior for $7 (65% off)
Camelot Junior for $12 (56% off)
Tile Lock Scrabble for $8 (60% off)
Fisher-Price TRIO sets:
Hot Wheels Lift ‘n’ Go Garage for $10.63 (62% off)
Airport Tower for $12 (60% off)
Alex crafts:
Color a Fashion Bag for $13.50 (55% off)
Color a Flower Bag for $13.50 (55% off)
Little Hands Button Art for $6 (73% off)
Fab Badge Maker for $5 (77% off)
Finding these deals is definitely a kinder, gentler start to the morning than the puppy wake-up call.
