The gift of… toast?

Look; I appreciate a good toaster oven as much as the next person. It’s a handy little device. And it’s not that I don’t think that this Black and Decker 4-slice toaster oven isn’t a great deal at just $20, because it is. Good reviews, too.

It’s just that—c’mon, Amazon—slapping the “Kitchen, Home & Garden Gifts for Dad” banner on the page seems a bit much to me. “Dad, I love you so much, I felt I could best express that through… toast.” Really? I hope you love your dad a little more than that. If you want a toaster oven, by all means, go ahead. But don’t call it a Father’s Day gift.

I mean, unless your dad really loves toast.

New month, new grocery specials

Happy June! A new month brings with it an entirely new crop of grocery specials at Amazon, and I’m on it like white on rice, baby. (Not a moment too soon, either—we are almost out of cereal.)

My pick for this month: This 30% off “Big G” cereals assortment. Many are already on sale, then use coupon code JUNEBIGG for 15% off and buy via Subscribe & Save for an additional 15% off and free shipping. Fellow gluten-free folks, check out all of the GF Chex varieties they carry! (It includes cinnamon, cheap, which my local supermarket doesn’t even carry for some reason.)

Hooray for cheap cereal and easy breakfasts!

Half off for your tots

Oooooh, there’s an awesome one today as the Mamapedia Sweet Deal—$15 gets you $30 to spend at Totsy, your destination for designer kiddie goods at up to 90% off.

(I am only a little bit bitter that Totsy only covers kids up to age 8 or so. Just nevermind those of us with older kids who want great deals, Totsy! No, really, it’s fine. I will just sit over here in the corner. Don’t mind me!)

Ahem. Where was I? Oh, right. So things are already great deals at Totsy, and then you get an extra $15 to spend. Assuming you have little kids. Sweet.

Everything’s coming up Mel Brooks

I’m going to do something sneaky, right now. I’m going to recommend this Mel Brooks Blu-ray Collection as a Father’s Day gift, because what dad doesn’t love Mel Brooks, and because it’s just $47 for nine awesome movies. But the truth is that I would totally buy this because I wanted it, because I think Mel Brooks is hilarious.

It is also true that I might actually be a 10-year-old boy deep in my heart. I’m okay with that.

Heads up, Android users

You know that Amazon recently launched their very own Android Appstore, right? Well, they’re doing one free app every day, and today’s Appstore freebie is the critically acclaimed “Plants vs. Zombies,” which is normally $2.99.

I never, ever thought I’d say this, but: Right at this moment, I’m a little bit bummed to have an iPhone. But quote me on that and I’ll swear you’re lying.

There’s still time to catch the Soft sale!

I almost missed it, but you’ve got until midnight tonight to shop Soft Clothing and get 20% off your entire order plus free shipping. Just use coupon code memday2.

If you have a sensory-sensitive kid, Soft Clothing is the answer to your every clothing battle over things being itchy or otherwise uncomfortable. No tags, flat seams, and the softest cotton imaginable. Their stuff is great for all kids, but particularly for those who have trouble getting comfortable.

Rock-bottom Wii, today only

In the market for a Wii at the most affordable price? Check out today’s Deal of the Day at Sears—it’s a Wii Console for just under $140. Now, that means you get one wiimote and Wii Sports only (this isn’t a bundle with Sports Resort or extra controllers), but still, pretty sweet.

Also note that Sears will ship this for free, and your purchase will get you a $20 electronics/gaming coupon good towards a future purchase, too. That’s like getting it for $120, or consider your $140 to be getting you the console as well as a bonus game.

The deal is good today only, so don’t hesitate if you want in. And I am only crying a little, thinking of how we spent over $100 more than this on ours. Heh.

Who’s a wittle bitty adorable camcorder??

How cute is this little Kodak Mini Camcorder? So cute! And so red! I just want to love it and hug it and call it George, and that’s before I see that it’s at a new price low of just $40 shipped!

Now, let’s be clear; this model doesn’t have anywhere near all of the features of the Kodak PlaySport (nor is it waterproof, like the PlaySport), so I wouldn’t consider this an acceptable substitute if you’re looking for a primary camcorder. But maybe for a tween or teen who wants a camcorder…? Or as a starter or backup model to have on hand…? I don’t know. I just know that price is the lowest I’ve seen it.

And also that it’s adorable.

Back to civilization

I knew I was back among modern society (we went camping this weekend) when I automatically popped up 6pm.com this morning. Ahhhhhhh. (Sure, I take coffee with us when we camp. But shopping for shoes fireside is a bit much, even for me.)

Today’s deals include Nike, Patagonia, Crocs, and more. And where have I been? There’s about a dozen adorable new styles of Crocs for the kids I’ve never seen before. Cute stuff.

It’s good to be back!
