Not really all that mini

You know I’m a sucker for the makeup deals that pop up in the Target Daily Deals, and why not? If I can get stuff on the cheap that way, with free shipping, I’m going to do it. Anyway, today they have the ELF “mini makeup collection” in the spotlight for just $8 shipped.

And they can call it mini, but it includes so many choices, I’m pretty sure you could make up your entire face a different way every day for a week. If you’re into that sort of thing. Hey, I don’t judge.

Be ready for pancakes

My very favorite syrup in the whole world is on sale at Amazon for a great price; right now you can buy a 32-ounce jug of organic Grade B maple syrup for just $14.48 shipped when you buy via Subscribe & Save.

Grade B syrup is often described as “better for baking” than direct consumption, because it’s darker and has a deeper, stronger taste. We prefer it for regular syrup to Grade A, actually, because… um, I guess because it has a stronger taste. I just like it better. (Why would I want maple syrup that tastes less like maple syrup?)

Anyway, this is a great price. And last weekend we were out of syrup and there were no pancakes and it was tragic. Learn from my mistake!

Did someone say candy?

Y’all know I try to keep the sugar madness to a minimum, ’round here, but I’m not a heartless monster, or anything. Certain occasions require candy. And—of course—thank goodness for those awesome heroes like Santa and the Easter Bunny for always supplying the stuff Mom usually says no to. Heh.

One of our (yes, our; I suffer from a closeted sweet tooth, myself) favorites ’round here is Wonka candy, so I was thrilled to see that in April Amazon is offering a deal on Wonka candy where you can save 30% off their (often already-reduced) prices. Just use coupon code WONKA777 to save 15% and then buy via Subscribe & Save for another 15% off and free shipping.

There’s plenty of Easter-y options, if you’re into that sort of thing. Or go free of seasonal branding and save some for Halloween. If you have that kind of willpower. (I do not. If you need me, I’ll be face-down in this box of Nerds.)

Better world, more books

I am a shameless devotee of Better World Books, both because their mission is awesome and because they’re just about the easiest and cheapest way to pick up used books. And now I’m about to get twice as much awesome for my money—today you can get a Groupon for $20 to Better World Books for just $10 out-of-pocket.

I missed this deal the last time they had it, so you’d better believe I scooped this one up faster than you could say “literacy.”

Get those Easter shoes at Payless

Of all the things I spend money on, I think it’s dress shoes for the kids that causes me the most agony. They’ll wear them a couple of times and then outgrow them, and it seems like such a waste of money. On the other hand, pairing grungy sneakers with Easter finery seems like a poor choice. So every year I suck it up and buy them some Nice Shoes.

This year I’ll be shopping online at Payless. Not only does it beat hitting the store, but they have a bunch of stuff online you can’t even get at the store. Plus, coupon code 44834 takes off another 20%, which means I can either justify the $5.95 flat rate shipping to my house, or I can opt for free ship-to-store and just pocket those savings and run over to my local store to pick up my purchases. Easy and cheap—my favorite combination.

It’s Kodak time at OfficeMax

If you’ve had your eye on a Kodak camera, now may be the time to buy it… at OfficeMax, of all places. This week they’re having a giant Kodak discount event, with many models marked well below where you’ll find them elsewhere.

For example, the have the Zi8 Pocket Camcorder (the Flip’s biggest competitor) for just $70! (It’s still $115 at Amazon right now.) It ships for free, too.

If you’re looking for something for a tween or teen, they’ve got the Kodak Mini for just $50, too. (That one’s the same price as Amazon, though. It’s really the Zi8 that’s the deal to beat.)

And you know what I say about pocket camcorders—how in the word did our parents and grandparents sufficiently blackmail their offspring without ’em?

The Easter Bunny loves lip balm

Planning on filling up Easter baskets with candy? Hey, I like candy as much as the next guy (assuming the next guy has a gargantuan sweet tooth and would like a chocolate bunny for breakfast, please), but it’s nice to find some non-sugar items to include, too. Enter Avon; they not only have awesome lip balm, they have lots of other perfect stuff for kids (bath paints, nail polishes, foaming soaps, etc.), too. (Actually, I just browsed around, and in addition to the usual suspects they also carry… Madam Alexander dolls! At a discount!) And right now you can shop and use coupon code RCTAVON for free shipping on any order.

That means that if you only want a couple of lip balms, you’re all set. Or if you want to grab a couple of lip balms while shopping for yourself, you’re all set. Whatever.
