It’s beginning to look a lot like (after) Christmas

The giant post-Christmas clearance is on over at Pfaltzgraff, with prices of up to nearly 90% off, and automatic free shipping on $75+.

When I remember to do it—feeling proud of myself, this year, because I forgot last year—I like to hit this sale for things like candy dishes or cheap ornaments and such that I can work into teacher or hostess gifts for next year. Buy ’em now, feel self-satisfied and smug next December!

I’m a Scharffen Berger convert

Recently my friend Chris over at The Peche hooked up with the nice people at Scharffen Berger and a bunch of folks were supposed to get coupons for money off chocolate, which of course would’ve been swell. Instead, though, the Scharffen Berger folks sent out a bunch of actual chocolate, because they are nice. And I’d been hearing from all over the place about how this is the best chocolate, and totally worth $5/bar (the regular price).

You know how I feel about chocolate. I was not convinced I’d find anything worth $5/bar, though.

But I got my box from them and I’ve gotta say, it was… pretty stupendous. I began to understand the fuss. Not that my wallet (not to mention my hips…) are going to support regular purchase of chocolate at that price point, but… yeah. I get it now.

But check out Amazon: Right now you can get a 24-pack of Scharffen Berger Nibby Dark, Extra Dark, or Semisweet bars for under $20 each. That’s less than a buck a bar! I don’t know if this is a price mistake or what, but at this price point, I’m darn near powerless.

Yum.

Save 50% on nearly everything at The Body Shop!

I love this so much—today and tomorrow, if you shop at The Body Shop and spend $5 on their “Bag for Life” tote bag, you’ll get 50% off your entire order. (If you want more than $10 worth of stuff, you’ve already paid for the bag. Do they even sell anything that costs less than $10?)

Proceeds from the bags go to charity, so it’s really a win-win all around. Plus, shipping is always free on $50+.

There are some exclusions—you can use the discount on prepackaged gifts/kits, for example—but it does work on sale items. Which means you could be one tote bag away from being all stocked up for next year’s gifts!

One last chance to use the force

I think this may be the last holiday-season Star Wars discount. I could be wrong, of course, but things do seem to be winding down.

So: Did your little Star Wars fan drool over all 1170 piece of the LEGO Venator Attack Cruiser but you couldn’t quite justify the $120 MSRP?

Today it’s just $85 in the Target Daily Deals. Use coupon code ON6LKVO9 to knock off another 10% and you’ll be getting it for around $76.

Again, these fancy LEGO sets are never going to be good impulse purchases or gift-closet fodder, but if you have a kid who eats, sleeps and breathes this stuff, that’s not a bad price.

A bevy of savings

I’m trying to do wild and crazy things this week, like kind of chill out and relax. I know. It’s like I’m trying to sort of pretend I’m on vacation, or something.

Here’s some deals to get you through the afternoon while I attempt wandering away from the computer for a bit:

Kohls is still doing their after-Christmas blowout, and today everything ships for just $.99/item. Looks like code TWENTY4U is taking an additional 20% off your entire order, too. [Edited to add: Woohoo! Kohls card holders can use code SHIP2MVC for free shipping on any order.]

Right now over at Linens-n-Things, you can take 20% off your order and get free shipping with coupon code ORGANIZE. Some items are excluded from the coupon, but everything I tried works.

And finally, check out the end-of-season sale over at Express. 60% off all kinds of stuff, just in case you have a bit of Christmas money burning a hole in your pocket.

Which store will it be? Better check out all of them, just in case. Heh.

It all starts with a good breakfast

I’m still cruising the groceries at Amazon, looking for those year-end ways to stock my pantry. The less I have to buy at the grocery store, the better!

There’s plenty of deals on cereal if you do a little digging. The following are all marked down and an even better deal if you buy via Subscribe & Save:
Post Honey-Comb 4-pack for $7.62
Post Honey Bunches of Oats 4-pack for $8.16
Post Raisin Bran Crunch 4-pack for $8.52 (these are big boxes!)

There’s more, of course. They’re selling out quick—there was actually a great deal on Cinnamon Life that sold out while I was posting this. Whoops.

Need to return? Check this out

WalletPop has a great round-up of various stores’ return policies up that’s worth a look if you have some gift-returning to do.

Keep in mind that with any store, persistence often pays off. If you don’t get the answer you want, keep trying, move up the food chain (“May I please speak with a supervisor?” is a magical phrase), and stay pleasant. You won’t always get satisfaction, but you may be surprised at how often you do.

WalletPop gives the best return policy award to Zappos, and I agree that Zappos is fantastic. I’ll add that both Lands’ End and LL Bean really stand behind their guarantees as well—even years later—so I think they top Zappos.

So wrong and yet so right

Oh no! You’re headed over to see a friend for New Year’s and you don’t have a gift! Plus you’re a little short on cash, you know, seeing as how you’re kind of all-holiday-shopped out.

Thank goodness you can pick up a Pride and Prejudice and Zombies 2011 calendar with 2-day free Prime shipping for just $3.17! Not only is it beautiful (?), it’s functional! Why, it says right there: “Includes both zombie and Jane Austen holidays.” Thank goodness.

No need to thank me.
