Be more cutting edge
My husband and I have a ritual, and it goes like this: Two or three times a week I need to cut up something rather sturdy while I’m cooking dinner, and I take the biggest knife we have and start slamming it into sweet potatoes (where the knife promptly slices only halfway through and gets stuck) or what have you and complaining (loudly) about how our knives aren’t strong enough or sharp enough. And then he tells me I’m welcome to buy a nice Santoku knife, and I retort that they’re too expensive, and then a couple of days later we do the same thing again.
(He is a lucky, lucky man, I tell you.)
So today I was looking at the Shun steel cutlery collection on Amazon and thinking, huh, the prices seem lower than I remember. I may get my new knife, finally.
Of course, then I’ll have to find something else to complain about, but I think I can manage that.
I’m drinking it right now
I know you’re tired of hearing me talk about this—“That Mir, she must be a protein shake addict or something!”—but you know that every time the Designer Why Vanilla Protein Powder gets marked down at Amazon, I pick up another container. My kids (and often I) drink it in fruit smoothies every morning, and I love that we’re getting that extra protein boost without any nasty chemicals.
Of course, without my Prime trial (alas!) I’ll have to buy two jugs today to get free shipping, but at $17.28 for two pounds, I’d probably do that, anyway.
Bottoms up!
The Tax Man cometh
For some of us, there’s not much to celebrate today, other than “finally dropping that check in the mail,” but that’s okay. You can always console yourself with a freebie or a deal, right?
Check out this list of tax day goodies guaranteed to soothe your tax-savaged wallet.
Lightning deal on a Jawbone
You know how I’ve given away several Jawbone Bluetooth headsets? And we’re all always all “Wow, that’s kind of awesome. But we here at Want Not are probably not going to pay $100 for a headset, y’know?”
Right now there’s a Jawbone on a Lightning Deal in the Amazon Gold Box, and you can get that beauty (in “blah blah black,” which may be my favorite product color name ever) for just $55 shipped.
Still not cheap, but definitely the smokingest (totally a word) deal I’ve ever seen on a Jawbone. Remember, it has military-grade technology, which both makes you easier to hear and exponentially ups your General Cool factor.
Five hours to save more
Starting at 11:00 a.m. Eastern (hey, that’s now), you have five hours to save extra at Kohls, whether you carry their charge card or not.
Just use coupon code APR15CDT for an extra 15% off everything (works for everyone), or if you’re spending $100+, use code APR20CDT for 20% off! Shipping is free on orders of $100+, automatically (but after the markdown is taken).
It’s a great time to pick up that largish item you don’t want to haul home from the store. (I mean like a rug or patio furniture, not like an XXL shirt.)
New markdowns, cool styles
My daughter is juuuuuuust about done with Children’s Place; my guess is that this is the last summer I can shop there for her. Alas! Not only do they have a billion sales a year (like now, with new markdowns on their spring stuff and $10 swim options), but most of their clothing manages to escape the “hoochie factor” that I see so often for little girls.
Of course, once we’re firmly into the Juniors section for everything, we’re doomed. I know that. But really, when there are stores where you can buy your kindergartener thong underwear, something is just wrong with the world. Thank goodness you can still hit TCP for primary colors, heart-and-flowers designs, and clothes that don’t make parents cringe.
Coupon code C4A4A is still working for an additional 15% off, so shop away and enjoy the savings (and the age appropriate clothing) while you can.
Some of these things don’t go together
I love it when there are a few good deals over in the Target Daily Deals section, but it’s possible I love it even more when my twisted sense of humor gets a chuckle out of the things they choose to feature together.
For example, today they have a pretty good deal on a Graco highchair. Free shipping on something that size is always good, too. And what do you need to go along with your highchair? Why, some gladiator sandals! And… a fire pit! (I can’t quite allow myself to make a comment about tossing flaming chunks of food at your baby, but I’m sure you can fill it in yourself.)
Once you’re done laughing, don’t forget to click through this link here before you buy, to get an additional $5 off your $50+ purchase. Also, please don’t throw food—flaming or otherwise—at your baby.
Hey, music- and tech-heads
My knowledge of music ends with “hit the ON button,” quite frankly, and the high point of my audio appreciation was probably my twelfth birthday, when I finally received that cassette player boom box I’d been wanting forever. So take the following with as many grains of salt as you need to remember that I have no idea what I’m talking about.
That said, I’m intrigued by today’s Big Steal at Meijer, which is a IOGEAR GHPAKIT Powerline Stereo Audio System for under $90, shipped. What it does is… ummm… stream your music to any room. Somehow. I don’t really know. It looks geeky.
What I do know is that the same system is about twice as much from Amazon, which certainly seems to indicate that it’s a decent deal, if you need such a thing. I mean, assuming that you both know what it is and feel your life is empty and incomplete without one.
Steamy
Alert (and pretty! always pretty!) reader Rachel sent the following along while I was out:
visited my Mom last week and she has one of these clothes steamers. It rocked my socks off – so much better than ironing!!! So, when I got home I started looking for the same one she had. Lo and behold, Amazon has it on a REALLY good sale right now, so I snatched it up.
Rachel’s right; buy from Amazon (via Macy’s) and you’ll get it for just under $48, less than half any of the other options. And it looks like a sexy beast, that steamer. (Can I say that? About a steamer, I mean?)
Thanks for the tip, Rachel!
While I’m away
I have some meetings to get to this morning, so while I’m gone, why not check out today’s offerings at 6pm.com? Nothing is as good as cheap shoes, as we all know.
Today’s specials include lots of deals for the guys, as well as great deals on Sugar, which makes adorable shoes.
Buy something pretty while I’m gone.
