I’m too old to understand

I cannot tell you anything about Animal Crossing: City Folk for the Wii other than that it’s down to just $20 now at Amazon. I don’t understand the point of it, and I have no idea why my children find it entertaining.

All I can tell you other than the price is that—left to their own devices—my kids will play it for hours, and it involves a lot of tree-shaking and giggling. Oh, and that Tom Nook is just as pushy and creepy on the Wii version as he is on the DS. I’m pretty sure that guy is connected to some sort of human trafficking ring. But you didn’t hear it from me.

Also, please get off my lawn. Thank you.

It’s beginning to taste like Christmas

Did you know that Amazon is even doing special holiday deals on Groceries? It’s the 12 Days of Christmas on food. (Any guesses on which day will be bacon…?)

Today’s feature is all manner of gingerbread, and while the biggest deals are on the fancy kits if you’re inclined to go that way, if you want a decent box mix for a school project or otherwise baking for a huge crowd, your best bet is this 12-pack of Betty Crocker mix via Subscribe & Save (it comes out to about $1.70/box).

I’ve been doing okay with the no-wheat thing, but all this gingerbread is making me a wee bit nostalgic for the Evil Wheat. Sigh.

It’s too cold to ride now, anyway

I love all things Radio Flyer, particularly when they’re topped with adorable small children. So my love for this Grow ‘n Go Lights and Sounds Bike should come as a surprise to no one, and not just because they’ve slashed the price to $34 (less than half of Target’s price, the next-lowest).

Take note, however: This will not arrive in time for Christmas. If you need an adorable starter bike for your child for after this month, though, it’s a deal worth scooping up.

Striped delight

You know those adorable rugby sweaters that The Children’s Place has? Stripes in a dozen different colors? This week only, they’re marked down to just $5 each. (Note: It’s just the traditional rugby striped one that’s only $5. The others are discounted, but a bit more.)

Use coupon code GGAC9 to take another 15% off your order, too.

(I’m working against the temptation to get one for every day of the week. Is there anything cuter than a kid in stripes?)

60 gifts under $6, and more

Well, we made it back home again, after—no lie—six hours of doctors and the pharmacy. Woo! Not that I’m bitter. Much.

My son would be happy to share his sinus infection with anyone who wants it, but I’m thinking you might prefer something else. Like, say, Old Navy’s assortment of 60 gifts under $6 each? As if the prices weren’t good enough to begin with, you can also use code ONSAVE20 through December 15th, 2009, to take another 20% off, and shipping is automatically free on your $50+ purchase.

Plus—unlike my son—I’m pretty sure anything you pick up there will be completely snot-free. So, you know, there’s that.

Dose up on the dailies

Daily deal action abounds in the month of December, so you may want to take a look at these:

The Amazon Gold Box has deals on both the DVD and Blu-ray version of Lost today, which is just the thing for a loser like me who never watched the first season and then felt like I could never start watching because I had no idea how it started.

Today’s Discovery Channel Store deals include a remote-control T-Rex and a night-vision camcorder!

The Target Daily Deals include some cute Christmas boxes and a very scary-looking knife. (Who’s in charge of deciding what they feature, over there? Kind of a weird combination, no?)

Overstock’s big Deal of the Day is a Serta Rejuvenator mattress topper, which sounds dirtier than it is. I think.

And last (but not least!), you know to check in at 6pm.com, right? Today’s deals include Patagonia, Simple, Roxy and more… not to mention the special deal that goes live at 9:00 a.m. Eastern.

That should keep you busy for a while.

Captain Underpants to the rescue

Whatever my personal feelings about a potty-mouthed superhero in tighty whities, there’s no doubt that Captain Underpants has brought a generation of reluctant readers (particularly those with Y chromosomes) into reading for fun, and for that, I salute him.

Today only, enjoy special savings at the Scholastic Store on boxed sets; The Captain Underpants Collection: Volume I and The Captain Underpants Collection: Volume II are both normally $20 apiece (each includes four books), but today only you can use coupon code TWTCU to get either or both sets for just $9.98 apiece!

Shipping is automatically free on orders of $25+. Your kid devouring books of his own volition? Priceless.

Cappuccino for astronauts

Okay, honestly, I have never tried this Nescafe Dolce Gusto stuff, but it looks like some sort of fancy instant coffee thing, and the reviews are pretty decent. (Me, I prefer grinding the beans and swearing while in desperate need of caffeine, but to each her own.)

Anyway, right now Amazon is offering 3-packs for $25, plus you’ll save $15 off $39+, plus Subscribe & Save takes another 15% off. Sooooo… you could order 6 boxes (two 3-packs) for $27.50 shipped, or about $4.50/box.

And that way if you’re ever stuck on the moon with a hankering for a macchiato, you’d be all set.
