Canning season is coming
Do you can? Do you, like me, get over-ambitious with your garden each year and then pull out the pressure cooker and realize that no, you’re still afraid of the pressure cooker, and freeze your bounty, instead? (Please, someone say yes. I have yet to use that stupid pressure cooker.)
Whether you can things or just like to store stuff in glass jars, right now this 12-pack of wide-mouth Ball pint jars is just $8.47 at Amazon, its lowest price ever. You can can things, if that’s your thing. Or you can store dried beans in them. Or office supplies. Or freeze food in them because you’re afraid of your pressure cooker. Whatever. I don’t judge. I just know this is a good price.
Heads up, Hyperbole and a Half fans!
If you, like me, basically consider Allie Brosh and her book Hyperbole and a Half all that is good and right and true about this world, I have some super-exciting news for you: She has a new book coming out!!
You can pre-order Solutions and Other Problems on Amazon right now for $13.40 (paperback) and it will ship when it’s released in October. (And with the Amazon Pre-order Price Guarantee, if the price drops again before then, you’ll get the lowest price.)
My kids consider Hyperbole and a Half something of a life manual, and of course it helps that she writes about her Special Dog and her Helper Dog, who closely mirror our own dogs in terms of intellect. Sometimes I get a text from one kid or the other which reads either “Bees?” or is just a few bee emojis. If you don’t know why that’s funny, buy the first book right now, and then go pre-order the second one.
May the 4th be with you(r Lightning Deals)
Heads up, Star Wars fans: You already know that today is a very special day (May the 4th be with you!), and Amazon is there for you—a ton of today’s Lightning Deals are Star Wars-themed. You just have to keep checking back to see what’s coming up.
I’m digging these lightsaber BBQ tongs, myself. Father’s Day gift, anyone?
Cinco de Mayo starts now
Good morning! I have decided to live. (You know how you get really sick and for a few days you’re like, Eh, I can die, it’s fine… and then you sort of start feeling better and then you wake up one day and think I still feel gross but I choose life!? No? Just me? Okay.)
Just in time, too, because Home Decorators Collection emailed to let me know their Cinco de Mayo promotion has already begun, and that means 50%+ off hundreds of items, plus extra savings on Outlet items and free shipping on almost everything. You won’t have it in time for a party tomorrow, of course, but if you’ve been trying to get your porch/patio in order, lately, this may be the time to pick up some new outdoor furniture or accessories.
(Yeah, I went and looked. Apparently I’m supposed to be getting the house in shape for a graduation party. I don’t know why, because both of my precious babies are still toddlers. Right?? Lie to me.)
The May Beauty Box is here!
Hurry—these always sell out really fast. Target has their May Beauty Box available for a limited time for just $10 with free shipping. It’s a $47 value!
(This was so exciting, I’m posting it from my sickbed. Go get one; I promise I didn’t touch it.)
It’s Kohls time (with so many Star Wars deals)
Whether you’re a fan of Star Wars or not, it’s hard to pass by a big sale at Kohls, especially when you can earn Kohls Cash ($10 for every $50 you spend) and there’s coupons galore (Kohls card holders can use code RAIN30 for an extra 30% off and code KCAPRIL for free shipping on any size order; anyone can use code ALLDAISIES for 15% off and get free shipping on $75+ automatically), but man there are a lot of Star Wars deals right now, too. Just a bonus if your geek tendencies tend to lean that way.
I mean: hello, R2D2 winter boots for the kids. How cute are those?? And although the original price was $55, after sale and coupon you could snag ’em for around $12.
Those aren’t your thing? That’s fine—everything else is on sale, too. (I have neither a small child nor a need for boots, but that didn’t stop me from making a very high-pitched noise when I saw those, anyway.)
Need a TV?
The one thing I’m not buying for my kid’s dorm room is a television, because I’m a giant meanie (obviously). If I was, though—or if I needed a smallish set for a spare room or something—I’d be jumping on this deal: Best Buy currently has this Sharp 32″ 1080p HDTV available for just $150 shipped! It has an average 4.6 star rating with over 1,700 reviews, too. (For comparison: The same set at Amazon is going to run you at least $230.)
Only somewhat related: Remember when a 32″ TV was considered gigantic? And also when it weighed, like, 100 pounds? This is now considered a small set, and it weighs about 10 pounds. Technology, man. Crazy.
Friends & Family savings at Macy’s
If you’ve been waiting on a sale at Macy’s, today’s the day—just about everything is already on sale, plus you’ll save an extra 25% (10% on things like furniture) and get free shipping on $25+ when you apply coupon code FRIEND.
I use sales like this to stock up on things like bras (many are on sale, others are Buy 1, Get 1 Half Price; then you can use the coupon on top of that), but I’m not kidding that everything is on sale, so you do you.
Just one more tip: If you’re into Fiesta ware, the savings here are crazy. Buy 1, Get 1 Free before coupon on place settings kind of crazy. Just sayin’.
Everybody needs tp
So the good news is that my daughter’s dorm actually has private bathrooms—no walking down the hall to a cavernous room of stalls and sinks for her. The bad news is that she was astonished when I mentioned that she’d need to work out providing toilet paper among her room- and suite-mates. When I finally stopped laughing, I asked her how she thought the school should best provide that toilet tissue to everyone. Concierge service? Oh! Maybe they could send it in with the maid. (You know my suggestion was that everyone bring a giant package and they’d be set for the year, right? So embarrassing, Mom.)
Anyway! Now I’m stocking up for home as well as for her to take to school in a few months. So I just snagged this 24-roll Quilted Northern Supreme Rolls deal at Amazon: it’s marked at $24.29, then there’s a clippable $5 coupon, plus if you have your 5+ subscriptions for the month, you’ll save another 15%. That made it $15.65 delivered, for me, and the package claims 8 supreme rolls equal 30 regular ones—which is probably a stretch—but even if you only consider them equivalent to double rolls, that’s basically 48 rolls for around $15. Not bad.
It’s not as good as dorm maid service, I guess, but still.
Another chance to score at Schoola
Once more, with feeling? In honor of Earth Day (hey, why not?), Schoola is doing another buy more, save more sale.
If you’ve never signed up, you get money in your account right off the bat just for creating an account. Shipping is free on $25+ (for a limited time). And right now, spend $30+ and get 30% off with code SAVE30, or spend $50+ and get 50% off with code SAVE50, or spend $60+ and get 60% off with code SAVE60. It’s a great way to score gently-used clothing for the whole family at a crazy discount off retail.
Did I place an order, myself? Um, is the sky blue? I had $20 in credit in my account, so I carefully stocked my cart with $60 worth of goodies (total: $60.30, because I’m a ninja), used the 60% off coupon, applied my $20 credit, and then paid… $4.12 out of pocket for six pieces of designer clothing. I’ve still got it.
