Build a room with Lego

I am sitting on my hands. We don’t need these. We don’t need these. We don’t need these.

But, um, maybe you do!

Guess what? There’s some completely awesometastic Lego furnitureicon on clearance right now. Shipping is very reasonable, too.

My kind of dog

Well, no, not really… though I do like that this one is completely hypoallergenic and never poops on the floor.

Was browsing around and came upon this VMIGO golden retriever. Apparently this is a very hot toy, though I don’t know anything about it because I’m a big anti-video-game square. I just saw the price (60% off!) and got all excited.

And then I thought, how mean would it be to get that for my daughter, she who is always asking for a dog…?

Get your games

I’m a sucker for board games. (And remember yesterday? Board games make good gift stash items!) Amazon is feeling the crunch to sell sell sell before the holiday, methinks—they’ve currently marked down a ton of board games. It takes a bit of wading through, but many children’s favorites are under $5. Some goodies for the grown-ups are available on the cheap, too.

(Me? I already succumbed to Blokus Trigon as our designated Family Game for the season. But there are some nice deals there.)

Here it comes again

For the first time ever, I bought a Restaurant.com certificate during the last promotion. (They finally added a few restaurants in my area.) I was so excited! I’d jumped on the bandwagon!

And now today, they’ve started a new, even better promotion. Of course.

Use coupon code SNOW through December 9th, 2007, at Restaurant.com to take 50% off your purchase and get a bonus $10 dining certificate. (It will be emailed to you within a day of purchase.) That’s $35 worth of dining for just $5. Now you have plenty of money left over to pay a sitter. See how nicely that works out?

The best kind of pets, er, Petz

My children are dying for a puppy, but I guess they’re just going to die, because at this point in my life I am enjoying not having to scrub pee out of the carpet. Go figure.

The poor deprived children have to content themselves with playing various animal-related games on their Nintendo DSs (when I let them have video game time, which is never, because did I mention how I am the Meanest Mother Ever?).

But if I were in the market for games for them, I’d probably be pretty excited to see that eligible Petz 2 games are buy 2, get 1 free at Amazon right now.

Then again, if I was buying them those games, I’d probably be a nice enough person to get them a real puppy. Oh well!

Play that funky music

Did I mention that my daughter will be getting a little karaoke machine for Christmas? She is going to flip. At least, I think she will. (No deal tips to share on that one… just hours of my life sacrificed to the eBay gods, and eventually I got lucky.)

Anyway, it turns out that karaoke CDs are expensive. Hmm. Didn’t really think that one through, did I? Whoops.

But then the very pretty Kim told me about Second Spin, not even knowing that I was scouring the ‘net for some cheap karaoke discs. I checked them out and now I’m hooked—not the least of which because they’re offering free shipping with coupon code FSN313 right now (through December 13th, 2007). They have other music, too, of course. And DVDs. And games. All gently used, and marked down into the “Mir-approved” price range.

Now who wants to come over and join us? I made sure to get the disc that has “I enjoy being a girl” on it, and the karaoke machine has two microphones.

Flat iron deal

If you want a high-quality flat iron but aren’t in a hurry for it, check out the Farouk Deep Brilliance iron currently being offered for $39.95 at Amazon. (The regular retail is $200, but these won’t ship until probably 2008.)

The iron is made by CHI, the super-expensive flat iron brand that everyone raves about. This particular line of products, called Deep Brilliance, is designed for “highly textured” ethnic hair. That means this iron will heat up hotter than seemingly comparable models, so keep that in mind if you are caucasian and/or fine-haired.

We don’t need anyone frying their hair off in the name of a deal, now.

Defining stash-worthy

The very pretty Jean writes:

I looooooooooove your idea of having a gift stash. My question is, how do you decide what to put in there? I want to give gifts that kids will love, but how to figure out what that is? Any suggestions? My son is 3.5 and is already starting to get invited to a ton of bday parties. Thank you your pretty-ness 🙂

In addition to being a world-class suck-up (thank you, Jean—you’re looking quite beautiful today, yourself!), Jean asks a pertinent question for those who are new to the idea of a gift closet: How do you know what to buy?

Let’s face it; get this one wrong, and you could be squandering lots of money rather than saving it. Having a stash doesn’t mean “buying everything on sale,” it means “buying things you know you’ll be able to gift throughout the year.” So how do we do that? read more…
