The sun is out and the sale is up
There are a lot of things wrong in my corner of the world which I cannot fix, today, but it’s sunny and the Amazon Friday Sale is on, and that will have to be enough for now.
It doesn’t have free shipping, but this Combi stroller is still going to be a steal. It’s a nice model if you’re torn between a conventional stroller and a jogger. Or if there are a lot of bugs where you are, and you think you might need to run them over. (Want a more conventional jogger? Check out this one
.)
Dude! It’s a yard Roomba! Would that be a Yardba? (The “sale” price still makes my eyeballs bleed, but still, it’s fun to dream.)
My beloved is gunning for this handy gadget as a wedding gift, on account of he is going to promise to love, honor, cherish, and char animals for me. He’s such a romantic.
Does this Dyson make your heart go pitta-pat? You can tell me. I won’t judge.
Sometimes, there are just no words.
Geez, it’s hard enough for most of us to get exercising without calling it the "Enemy" you know.
This is the Cadillac of hair dryers. In case you feel that your hair deserves a luxury car, I guess.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Crazy 5s at Disney
Another wacky promotion for you: Check out the Crazy 5s event at Disney Shopping. There’s stuff for $5 (character beach towels! they make great gifts!), there’s $5 shipping, there’s… um… other $5 stuff, too. Just go check it out.
Do you think I can get away with using a Lightning McQueen towel at the beach this summer? No? Killjoy.
Everything’s on sale at Lane Bryant

Sweeten the deal with a code:

000208109 — Take 20% off any order, no minumum
025008111 — Take $25 off your $75+ order
006958084 — Free shipping on $75+
(Coupons cannot be stacked, but the best deal will depend on the size of your order, of course. All codes good through July 13th, 2007.)
If the sun’s out, I’m pretty sure you’re entitled to buy something summery. It’s a law, or something.
Mommies and daddies and grads, oh my!
As the old song goes, everything has a season… and we have officially entered the shopping season of “buy a gift because we told you to.” Now, I’m not a fan of buying out a sense of obligation, but chances are there’s a parent or a graduate you love for whom you might like to buy a little something.
Alternatively, maybe you have a heart of cold steel, but still enjoy seasonal deals. That’s cool, too.
So, if you’re scoping out anything at Lillian Vernon, go ahead and take $10 off your $75+ purchase with coupon code 557840100. I believe that’ll work for the entire month of May. And would it kill you to call once in a while?
Whoops. Sorry. All mothers have that gene, you know. I try to keep it in check.
Who says 13 is an unlucky number?
Not me, that’s for sure. Right now you can get 13 hardcover books with 13 audio CDs from Weekly Reader for just $26. And it looks like shipping is just $3.95, too, so that’s 13 books and 13 CDs for under $30. Not bad at all.
Your kid would love these. And you could always just get it for the gift closet and give the book/CD pairings individually, earning admiration from the receiving parents at the next few birthday parties who are tired of receiving box after box of small plastic playthings.
(Thanks, Amy!)
C-c-c-candles
It is my dream for my next house to have a giant whirlpool tub with room for lots of candles. I find nothing more relaxing than a nice soak and some peaceful, flickering aromatherapy.
Our current bathtub is normal-sized, which isn’t so bad, but I tried putting a candle on the corner shelf in there and accidentally burned a hole in the plastic of the shelf above it. Whoops!
(Don’t you love how I share this relevant personal info?)
Anyway. If you like candles, here’s what you need to know: You can take $15 off your $60+ purchase at Illuminations, plus you’ll get free shipping on orders $75+. They also have free shipping on their top 10 Mother’s Day gifts.
Offers expire May 6th. Also, don’t put a burning candle on a shelf where it might burn through another shelf.
Any excuse for a sale is a good excuse for a sale
Hey, it’s been a while since Amazon had a sale, hasn’t it?
HAHAHAHA! I slay me.
Ahem. Yes. Well, you might not be able to tell it apart from any of the other gazillion sales they’ve had, but Amazon is having a Kitchen and Home Mother’s Day Sale that’s got about twice as much stuff as the Friday Sale in it.
Word to the wise: Your mom told me she wants a Scooba. Honest. She also said she doesn’t even mind if it’s one that’s refurbished
.
You’re welcome.
Plan accordingly
Many of you emailed to make sure I wouldn’t miss this one, and I thank you, but reiterate that I pretty much never miss an opportunity to get cheap or free ice cream, because I have my priorities in order.
Baskin-Robbins is having their 31-cent scoop night tonight (May 2nd), from 5:00 – 10:00 p.m. It’s not as good as getting it for free, but it beats whatever the usual cost is. Don’t know where your nearest Baskin-Robbins is? Find it and go get your cheap ice cream.
(If just getting something delicious for pocket change doesn’t make you feel warm and fuzzy enough, know that this is part of their efforts to support the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Clearly it would be unAmerican of you to miss it.)
The electronics dilemma
Sometimes expensive things can be gotten cheaply, much to the bargain-hunter’s delight. And sometimes expensive things come in cheaper versions; also (usually) to the delight of those seeking a deal. The question with things like electronic becomes: What price deal?
I’ve gotten multiple emails lately asking me to steer the inquisitor towards an awesome deal on a digital photo frame. Mother’s Day is coming up, and I can’t think of many moms who wouldn’t be thrilled to receive such a gadget. But—of course—these are expensive items, in general. Sure, you can get less expensive ones, but in general you’ll be sacrificing quality in doing so. Then you run the risk of becoming stuck in the potentially endless loop of “how much do I need” vs. “how much am I willing to pay.”
I’ve linked two frames at Amazon in this post. To the left, there, is the highly-rated 9″ Philips digital picture frame. It garners a review of “excellent” over on cnet and is my top choice if money is no object. But money usually is an object, and even at 20% off, you’re looking at dropping a couple hundred dollars on it.
To the right is an off-brand, lesser-quality 7″ digital picture frame by Ziga. The good news is that it’s only $60, and for a relatively small amount of money, it’s a pretty nice item with good reviews. The display won’t be stunning and it’s not as diverse or user-friendly as the Philips frame, but if saving money is paramount, it’s not a bad choice.
(Disclaimers: These are not the only two digital photo frames in the world. I am not a professional electronics reviewer. Results may vary. I’m still wearing my pajamas. If you take lousy pictures, the frame really doesn’t matter.)
More stuff on sale
(After a while, I run out of clever titles. Apparently we’ve reached that point.)
So, there’s about a billion things on sale at Dillards right now. No, I mean it. An additional 30% has been taken off of everything that was already marked down.
And someone mailed me recently about laptop cases being on sale there, too, but I can’t remember who (sorry!). Dillards is your typical department store; clothes, home, luggage, etc. You might find a deal.
If you find any witty titles on special over there, let me know.
