Psssst. . . heads-up on Overstock

So, listen: Overstock is offering free shipping from now through next Tuesday. And you can still use the 10% off coupon through this link, so that’s pretty good if you want to buy something there.

However, they’re going to have a 12% off coupon for Black Friday, so if you’re buying something big (like furniture) you may want to wait until then to make your purchase. Just sayin’.

Words fail me

You know, when Kim sent this along to me, I tried to just ignore it. Lalalalala! I’m not looking! But then Susan sent it along and I realized, the masses need a stern warning. And the warning is this:

Regardless of the dark moment in which you might think that this item is “cute” or “clever,” buying it will destroy the very fabric of our nation.

I actually shuddered when I read in the description that the speakers are “moisture-free.” Hold me.

Google Checkout discounts (edited!)

I think I mentioned Google Checkout offering $10 off of $30 at many participating stores, when it first started up. Not a bad deal, right?

Well, now some of the stores are ramping it up for the holidays, and going to an automatic $20 off of a $50 purchase when you pay via Google Checkout.

For example… take $20 off of $50 at Starbucks (where you also get free shipping over $59 before coupon). I believe it also works on gift cards, which ship for free.

Or take $20 off of $50 at Buy.com, where they’re currently offering free shipping on all Heelys.

Now I am going to have the image of a kid skating around in Heelys with a quad venti mocha in his hand stuck in my head all day. Thanks a lot.

[Edited to add: Haven’t signed up with Google Checkout yet? Sign up by November 26th and receive a $10 bonus on your first $10+ purchase!]

New York & Company deals

I don’t know quite what to think of New York & Company; their clothing often strikes me as a little… too shiny. I don’t know. Plus all of the models have their heads cut off. And their online assortment is kinda sparse. But! They’re having a sales event where it looks like all the tops (sweaters, shirts, and shapers) are buy one, get one half off. So maybe that’ll be useful for someone.

Sweeten the deal: use coupon code 9683 to take $30 off of your $75+ order (expiration unknown).

Did I mention that Dr. McDreamy is on the splash page, there? that’s worth a visit, if nothing else. Ahem.

Cheap media, no rebate required

Remember when I said you can get blank CDs and DVD+Rs on the cheap, but it usually involves a rebate, and I hate rebates? Everyone once in a while a better deal comes along and then the angels sing and I am happy.

Get 50 Maxell DVD+R discs for $9.75 shipped. Do note that these aren’t DVD+RWs; you can only record once and they you’re done. But if you’re burning discs to give away they’re perfect. Heck, at under $10 for 50 of ’em, I wouldn’t argue no matter what the use, really.

Teacher, teacher. . . you have enough mugs

Lord knows that I try my hardest to give thoughtful gifts to my kids’ teachers. This is partly because I just love to give a gift that’s well-received, and partly because my children are hellions (and as I can’t just give out the large wads of cash their teachers so richly deserve, I have to make do with what I have).

So you know that I couldn’t pass by this question:

Lovely Mir, please help me. I was foolish not to take advantage of the deals you had previously highlighted as being great gifts for teachers. Now I am looking for something to give to my children’s teachers (and also their assistants) for the holidays that would be both appreciated by them, and inexpensive for me. I admit that last year I gave mugs, and although they were very beautiful mugs, I do not want to give mugs again. Please help me find creative ways to say thank you to their teachers!

(Also, I have several people that I usually give little token gifts to during Christmas, and if I could just give the same to everyone, well, that would be beyond wonderful.)

Many, many thanks –
Elleana
