January 31, 2009 | Contests
Valentine’s Day is coming, and you’re probably going to need a card or two. But, you know, not the same old thing you always do. Did you know that Hallmark makes these great cards where you can record your own message? These are particularly fun when you have little kids, because nothing says “I love you” like a recording that says: “What was I supposed to say…?”
These cards are available at all your local Hallmark Crown stores, and cost about $6 apiece. Or you could win some from me.
Two lucky Want Not readers are going to each win three of these recordable cards. Want to win some? First review the official contest rules and regulations and then leave a comment on this post before 11:59 p.m. Eastern (8:59 Pacific) on Sunday, February 1st, 2009 to enter for a chance to win. Winners to be determined by random number generation and Cupid’s arrows. Ow.
Ready? Go!

Goooood morning! We have absolutely nothing planned for today. Ahhhhhh.
Scoping out the deals online? I have a few ideas for you….
Today is the last day for all of the January grocery deals at Amazon. There will be new deals tomorrow, of course, but if any of the current deals are calling to you, today’s the last day to get ‘em. (Psssst! The Honest Foods Cran-Lemon Squares are back in stock, and the coupon glitch means that coupon code HONESTFD will get you one box for free when you order just one box. Do it via Subscribe and Save to get free shipping, too—your order will total $0, and my kids have been eating up these bars like they’re chocolate cake.)
Lands’ End is running a new promotion on tops—save $7.50 on 3 select Lands’ End Women’s Tees, Polos or Turtles through the end of March. Of course, seeing this special made me wonder if there was a current code for free shipping… and there is! Use coupon code MENS with PIN 6724 to get free shipping on any order.
It’s time for another Super Saturday at Kohls! Today’s the last day for Kohls card holders to use coupon code MVC9496 for free shipping on any order (stack it with code EXTRAKC15 for another 15% off, too), and there’s automatic free shipping on orders of $75+ for everyone.
The Winter Wrap-Up Sale is on at Altrec, if you’re wanting your ski gear for next year.
Taking a trip? This weekend Overstock is offering an extra 5% off all luggage through that link. (Insert your own “Yes, I’m taking a trip—my kids are driving me crazy” joke here.)
Gearing up for Valentine’s Day, or just realizing that maybe bras aren’t supposed to last for ten years? You can shop Bare Necessities and get free shipping on your $75+ order, automatically. Plus, it’ll make you feel even prettier.
Speaking of Valentine’s Day… I think we’ll be having a special contest later on. Hmmm. Yes, I think we shall. Something to get you in the Valentine’s spirit, perhaps. Check back later….

Yeah, I know there’s one more day in January. But I sort of like the concept of seeing the month out with an Amazon Friday Sale. It seems fitting, somehow.
I’ve been looking for a retro dinette set like this for my kitchen, but I need a round table. Why isn’t the table round? Amazon is taunting me. (For what it’s worth, I think that one’s a great deal due to the free shipping, alone.)
Oooohhhhh… very shiny! This KitchenAid food processor is down to $139.99 shipped, plus there’s an available $15 rebate. I used to be a total Cuisinart devotee for food processors, but the KitchenAid is as good or—though it pains me to say this—maybe even better. And definitely shinier.
I’m not a scrapbook kind of person, but my understanding is that this here Cricut cutter is something of the holy grail amongst scrappers. Today’s price of $164.99 is lower than I’m able to find it anywhere else, too. (Though, really, maybe I’m missing the point, but I really believe it should also prepare a four-course meal at that price, too.)
I know it doesn’t feel like it’ll ever be summer again, but I promise that someday it will be, and then you might want something like this Suncast storage bench to put your pool toys in. Oh, wait. That’s me, who wants it for the pool toys….
Who’s a good boy? Who’s a good boy? Who wants to chew on a duck? That’s right, you do! Good boy! (Warning: Hartz is not responsible for your dog’s need to perform emergency squeakerectomies on plush toys.) (On the up side, it’s eligible for the 4-for-3 promo, so you can pick up a few spares.)
Although saying “portable oral irrigator” makes me feel dirty, $25.99 is a great price on this, and it’s a very handy item for kids in braces. Not that I would know anything about that. (“Mom, I’m saving that for later in case I want a snack.”)
Need party favors for tween girls? How about some Skittles-flavored lip smackers?
Get 360 Bounce dryer sheets for $17.99, or sign up for Subscribe & Save to get them for $15.29 shipped (shipping is always free on S&S items). You can cancel your subscription after your order ships, so it’s risk-free. And that’s a lot of dryer sheets.
Don’t forget to check out the Amazon Friday Five, too—five MP3 albums available for just $5 each, today only. (They’ve even got a Depeche Mode album from 2006; I had no idea they were still around.)
And with that, I’m ready to say goodbye to January. Don’t wake me up, tomorrow, mmkay?

Here’s something I never thought I would say: I am very nearly tired of Old Navy and their recent slew of deals, but here we are again. (I know. It was weird, saying that.)
Nevertheless, they’ve added more items to the clearance section and are offering an additional half off those items with coupon code—you guessed it—HALFOFF. These sales typically mean stuff sells out quickly, so make it snappy if you’re planning to shop. [Edited to add: The coupon apparently only works on clearance items with prices ending in 99. Sorry for any confusion.]
(I was just kidding, Old Navy. I love you! Don’t be mad!)

I own a single pair of Clarks boots, and they are the most comfortable shoes I own. Sometimes I whisper sweet nothings to them when no one is around. Don’t judge.
Anyway, the advantage of Clarks shoes is that they do tend to be incredibly comfortable as well as well-made, but the disadvantage is that you don’t always want to have to sell a kidney to buy a pair. But if you love Clarks, now’s your chance to make good:
Right now at Amazon, there are over thirty different styles of Clarks on sale, already. The great deal comes into play if you’re buying multiple pairs; if you spend $80+ on Clarks, you’ll automatically get $20 off. And if you spend $125+ on shoes, you’ll automatically get $25 off. Which means that if you spend $125+ on Clarks offered by Amazon, you’ll get $45 off at checkout.
I’d say more, but I have to, um, go look at shoes do something important….

The current Lightning Deal at Amazon is a Canon Pixma iP90v wireless photo printer for just $129 (59% off). Check out the reviews at CNET if you want to find out more about it, but it’s a nice step up from a “regular” printer if you want to print your own photos.
But it is a lightning deal, you know, so you’ll need to get to it….

Wow, who knew that offers of free money would bring y’all out? (Oh, wait. I guess I did.) Over 400 of you vied for a shot at some germ-covered gift cards, and today I’m going to sneeze hand them out.

Big thanks to all who played, and special thanks to Macy’s and Dunkin Donuts (and their PR folks) for donating the cards.
Didn’t win this time? The next contest will have even more winners, and I promise the prizes will have you feeling extra pretty. Stay tuned!

It looks like there’s been a slew of further markdowns at Crazy 8, which means that once again I will slog through their impossible-to-sort-by-in-stock-sizes interface in search of cute things for the kids at impossibly low prices. And then I’ll be annoyed by how long it took, but afterward I’ll be so delighted by the money I saved and all the awesome stuff I got that I’ll forget all about it.
I… um… well, I think I might be a Crazy 8 junkie. I wonder if there’s a 12-step program I could find to help cure me of this addiction…?

Got a cat or dog? Then you need a FURminator, that brush you see in all the infomercials where the person brushes Fluffy for a minute and ends up removing three pounds of hair. It’s crazy.
It’s also usually really expensive, but right now at Amazon they’re priced from $14.03 (small) to $23.59 (large), and free shipping eligible. Remember… your pets may not be shedding much now, but spring will eventually arrive. You know, spring? The season of green leaves, budding flowers, and tumbleweeds of pet fur on your kitchen floor? Yeah. Think about it.

Go enter. On that post, not this one. If you enter on this one I’ll just sneeze on you on purpose.
