The Lightning Deals made a funny
So I was just checking out the Amazon Lightning Deals—as I do, and a new batch of deals just went live at 11:00—and I saw a dog toy bundle. So I clicked through to look at it, and now I can’t stop laughing.
Yeah, the current lightning deal on this Zanies 6-pack of latex dog toys may or may not be a good deal at the Lightning Price of $13.91, but the real value is in the product description, which includes this gem:
This prepack dog toys are creative combinations of individually-labeled latex toys to help you make impulse gift sales and boost your holiday profits.
Call me crazy, but I just don’t think that’s what Licorice thinks about when I get her a new toy.
The final Black Friday of the year
I know. I know. It’s only Black Friday on the day after Thanksgiving. But retailers aren’t always that creative, so we’ve been seeing multiple “Black Friday” events. It would be annoying, but hey—savings! Whatever.
So what if they’re calling it Black Friday over at OfficeMax? It’s deals, and that’s all that matters to me. Deep discounts on desks, office chairs, technology and more. Plus, every order of $20+ ships for free.
For that, they can call it whatever they want.
Burt’s baaaaaaack
Just in case you missed them, the last time around, the grab bags at Burt’s Bees are back! Pretty reader Karen was kind enough to let me know. (Just click on “Outlet” and they’re the first item on the list.)
$25 gets you $50 worth of goodness, plus you can use coupon code BBEES12 for $5 off (which will take care of shipping on one bag). Shipping is free on your $40+ order.
Will you get these in time for Christmas? I… wouldn’t bet the farm on it. You might, but don’t assume you will. If you‘re a Burt’s Bees junkie and just want the items for you (or for post-holiday gifting), though, go for it.
All-natural body wash at a bargain price
If you love the all-natural hippie stuff, but don’t love the “ingredients gently harvested by fairies” prices, here’s one for you: Amazon has three different varieties of Seventh Generation Body Wash available right now with a $6 off coupon, making each 15-ounce 3-pack just $5.14 delivered when you buy via Subscribe & Save, or $5.73 if you want to use your Prime shipping (or get your order up to $25 for free Super Saver Shipping).
Choose from Lavender, Peppermint, or Chamomile. [Edited to add: Looks like you can use the coupon once per account (boo!) but here’s another eligible item if you don’t want body wash: Seventh Generation Lavender Lotion (3 8-ounce bottles).]
This price makes it cheaper than the stuff at the Dollar Store that could take the paint off your walls.
Don’t forget the necessities
I know we’ve all been busy with holiday shopping, and the “so cute” and “someone will love this” and all of that, but in the midst of all it, never forget the stuff you always need. Like toilet paper.
(Yeah, I know. It’s not as much fun. But… you always need it! Especially if you have guests coming to stay with you!)
Right now at Amazon, they have this 48-count pack of Angel Soft Double Rolls available for $22.63, plus there’s a $1 coupon you can clip on the page, plus you can save another 5% and get free shipping if you purchase via Subscribe & Save. That means you could get 48 rolls of TP delivered for just $20.50. Perfect.
We now return to our regularly scheduled Shopping For More Fun Things.
[Update: Looks like the Angel Soft is not doing it for some of you who prefer things plush. Heh. Here’s an almost-as-good deal—same low starting price, plus $1 coupon and available Subscribe & Save—on 48 double rolls of Ultra Plush Quilted Northern, instead.]
Green Toys over at MYHABIT
If you haven’t checked out MYHABIT yet, you may want to take a peek. They do rotating boutiques every day like the other open-to-members-only sites, but they alo offer free shipping on absolutely everything.
Today they’ve got a huge boutique of Green Toys offerings (under “Kids”), and the prices are pretty good. Everything from Green Toys is made in the USA and involves recycled plastics, so you can feel better about the toys you buy for the ankle-biters.
Checkout is easy, too, because it’s part of Amazon. (Insert your own joke about being assimilated, here.)
Just hypothetically…
… how much therapy would my children require if I went into the I Heart Guts boutique over at Fab.com today and bought them plush testicles and ovaries (or bladders, mammaries, instestines, etc.)?
I’m, uh, asking for a friend.
Various very girly toy markdowns
I hate the gender divide in toys, truly. I was One Of Those Moms; I never bought my daughter anything pink, and I filled her room with trucks and Duplos. She wrapped them up in blankies and put them down for their naps, and loves every monstrous pink hunk of plastic she saw. I no longer question that whole nature/nurture thing.
Here’s some new markdowns on Very Girly Things at Amazon:
Pinypon Shopping Center Playset for $16.79 (44% off)
Winx 11.5″ Basic Fashion Doll Concert Collection – Bloom for $4.99 (67% off)
Winx 11.5″ Basic Fashion Doll Concert Collection – Stella for $6.99 (53% off)
Winx 11.5″ Basic Fashion Doll Concert Collection – Flora for $6.99 (53% off)
Winx 11.5″ Basic Fashion Doll Believix – Bloom for $6.99 (68% off)
Winx Club Vanity for $9.99 (50% off)
Winx Club Concert Stage With Bloom Doll for $13.99 (65% off)
No, I don’t know what any of these things are. All I know is the Pinypon thing looks kind of like Littlest Pet Shop and Polly Pocket had a baby, and the Winx dolls seem somewhat less offensive than Barbies and Bratz. How’s that for a ringing endorsement?
Get your American Girl knock-offs
If American Girl remains too rich for your blood (even at the crazy deal price we saw last week), you might want to check out the Target Daily Deals today—they’ve got six different Our Generation doll/accessory bundles marked down today, and they all ship for free. These dolls and their associated gear are the same size as their much more expensive cousins.
Honestly, even if you have American Girls at home, at these prices it may be worth it even if all you want are the doll accessories. You can always donate the doll itself.
LEGO for the savvy big spenders
Let me preface this one with a big ol’ caveat: Every one of the following LEGO sets is currently at its lowest-ever Amazon price, but that does not mean they are cheap. These are big/complicated/expensive sets that happen to be momentarily big/complicated/discounted. So they’re not “grab ’em for the gift closet” so much as they’re “if you have an older child or husband or other serious collector dying for one and you thought it was out of the question, maybe not.”
That said, here you go!
LEGO Shuttle Expedition 10231 for $84.99 (current LEGO Store price is $100)
LEGO Castle Medieval Market Village 10193 for $88.97 (current LEGO Store price is $100)
LEGO Creator Fire Brigade 10197 for $119.97 (current LEGO Store price is $150)
LEGO Star Wars Imperial Shuttle 10212 for $209.99 (current LEGO Store price is $260)
LEGO Star Wars Super Star Destroyer 10221 for $309.99 (current LEGO Store price is $399)
Then again, if any of these are impulse buys for you, I might be available for adoption.
[Edited to add: There is currently a Lightning Deal for the LEGO Creator 10224 Town Hall at $150, if you can catch it.]
