Bikes away

We recently watched an episode of Ask This Old House (do y’all watch home improvement shows like this and sit on the couch and go, “Oh, that’s such a good idea, we should do that!” and then just keep eating popcorn and doing nothing? Just us…?) where a family with a bunch of bikes had them come in and organize their garage. The solution was a bevy of bike hoists—at the end of the episode, all of the bikes were either dangling from the ceiling or hanging on the wall, and again, we were left saying, “Huh, that’s a great idea.”

Guess where our family’s bikes are right now. Go on, guess. (Everyone who guessed “cluttering up the garage floor” wins a pony. Check your mailbox.) But this morning I see that Buy.com is doing their 2-pack of RAD bike hoists for $18 shipped, again, so I’m thinking it may be time for me to actually try this out. (And by “try this out” I of course mean “buy them and then bat my eyelashes at my husband until he installs them for me.”)

For comparison’s sake: The same lifts are currently $25 at Amazon, and the reviews are largely favorable. Though I didn’t see anyone mentioning that episode of Ask This Old House.

Even more Levi’s goodness

Alert and pretty Want Not reader Laura pointed out that Levi’s is having a flash sale this afternoon—through 5:00 p.m. Eastern, you can use coupon code FLASH40 to take 40% off just about anything, even sale items.

Shipping is free if you spend $75+, otherwise it’s a flat $7.50 for your whole order.

If you shopped their other recent sale, I guess this one is designed to make you say, “Doh!” Homer Simpson style. Or to buy the things you thought weren’t quite cheap enough at 30% off. Either way.

Holiday cards, done

I am referring, of course, to your holiday cards. I haven’t done holiday cards in years; our loved ones probably think we’re all dead. Or that I’m tremendously lazy. (One of those things is probably true.)

But if you want cards, or a nice personalized stationery gift for someone, get on over to Expressionery today, because you can use coupon code HOLIDAY2012 for 20% off and free shipping. They have everything you could possibly want on paper—cards, labels, memo pads, and more—plus they even offer personalized plates. Very cool if you have a hard-to-shop-for person on your list, particularly if they have an unusual name.

(Personalized gifts were always my favorite when I was a kid. All of those racks of license plates and personalized barrettes at the mall never had Miriam as an option!)

I wish my kitchen worked this way

How adorable is this Fisher-Price Servin’ Surprises Kitchen & Table? I mean, aside from the fact that it’s currently just $60 shipped (the lowest price it’s ever been at Amazon), you have all your kitchen stuff and the table to serve it on all combined. All the kitchenware even stores in the center when you’re done playing!

After dinner last night, I was not able to just sweep all of the dishes into a hidden compartment in the center of our table. I feel cheated, somehow.

Start gearing up for Black Friday

I feel like the notion of “Black Friday” is about to go the way of the dodo, what with most stores starting their “big deals” even before Thanksgiving arrives. And have you noticed that Amazon’s already doing Black Friday Lightning Deals? I’ll give them a pass because I like the deals (heh), but still, it seems kinda early.

Oh, well. Gather ye bargains while ye may, right? Plenty of active deals happening right now, and another batch coming up in five minutes (which will include a Kindle Fire at a special price). Get your clicking finger ready.

The Want Not Review: Ninja Cooking System

About a month ago I was contacted from the nice folks from Ninja, wanting to know if I would be interested in trying out their 3-in-1 cooking system. I couldn’t say yes fast enough—as a long time slow cooker addict (and huge fan of Stephanie O’Dea, crock cooker extraordinaire who sings their praises), I had been intensely curious about this supposedly do-it-all machine… though not quite curious enough to pony up $200 for one (especially because I already own four crock pots). (Oh, stop looking at me like that. I use them all! Regularly! I can stop any time I want to.) read more…

Calling all superheroes

One of my very favorite gifts to give little ones is a personalized superhero cape from PowerCapes. After all, who doesn’t want to fight crime, and look good while doing it? Today you can snag a $40 credit to PowerCapes for just $20 at Mamasource Deals—the perfect way to outfit your favorite little hero for less, and a great deal in and of itself. (In addition to capes, they have masks, t-shirts, and more.) But it gets even better, because this particular deal bundle also includes an automatic one-month SOAR membership that comes with all sort of goodies, including another cape! So it’s a twofer, of sorts, and if you don’t care for the “plain” SOAR cape you could always put that one in the gift closet or whatever.

If you want this one, snag it quick—there’s still time to place your order and get it in time for Christmas, but you’ll have to hustle.

It would be wrong to buy these for my teenager and almost-teenager, right? How about if I just get one for me…?

Because there’s always laundry

I have switched to “hippie crunchy” laundry detergent over the last few years, but every now and then I do kind of miss the reliability of Tide. Sure, my detergent is better for the environment. But… I do miss not having to pre-treat stains. Heh.

If you’re still a Tide devotee (no judgment!), right now Amazon has 2 50-ounce bottles of HE detergent available for $11.98, which isn’t bad (it’s their lowest price ever on that, actually). But! There’s also a $1 coupon you can clip on the page, bringing it down to $11, plus you can buy via Subscribe & Save, which knocks off another bit of money and gets you free shipping (and these suckers are heavy), plus if you pay with a Mastercard you’ll get another 10% off when you apply coupon code MSTRCRD1. So you can end up with this for under $10, if you do it right.

Happy laundering!

Love your Levi’s today

It’s only good through 11:59 p.m. tonight, but go shop over at Levi’s today and you can take 30% off your order and get free shipping with coupon code EARLYSHOP.

The code works even on items already on sale, so it’s easy to make yourself quite the bargain if you shop carefully. Or just get the jeans you can’t bear to pay full retail for at the store. Either way.

Happy Veteran’s Day, $15-style

In honor of Veteran’s Day, 6pm.com is having a $15 sale. Whether you need clothing, shoes, backpacks, or accessories, there’s 50ish pages of goodies all marked down to just $15. I love these sales.

Er, I mean, I don’t need anything, so I’m not going to look. Probably. Maybe. Stop looking at me like that.
