I’m back! Here, have some chores!

I have to tell you, my trip was so much fun, but I was ready to come home when the time came. That is… I was, until I actually got here. I love my family more than anything—you know this—but my calm, relaxed reentry into normal life included a to-do list that was about three pages long. And nothing says “Welcome home!” like the trifecta I greeted: Everyone needed a haircut, there was no food in the house, and we’re almost out of dog food.

Groceries and haircuts I took care of yesterday, but you know Licorice eats that expensive grain-free food and I wasn’t finding a deal on it anywhere, so I kind of hemmed and hawed and set it aside as a task for later this week. And then this morning I got up to a Groupon for PetFoodDirect, so now I’m pretty much all caught up on my chores. (Hahahahaha! Little humor, there. I’ll be doing laundry today in-between crying about how far behind I am on work.)

Do go check out PetFoodDirect before you buy to make sure they have what you need at a price you’re willing to pay. Me, I find their prices are good but their shipping kills me, and the Groupon (for me) is pretty much giving me free shipping, so I’m good with that. But check before you buy.

Hi! Still not dead!

Good morning, darlings! I am still in NYC, and still slacking in terms of bringing you anything useful, deal-wise. To make it up to you, I can offer this: Last night we saw How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, starring Daniel Radcliffe and John Larroquette.

I can confirm both that 1) the show was incredible and 2) Harry Potter would, indeed, fit in your pocket.

(Your regular programming will resume tomorrow. Thanks for your patience!)

It’s the Ultimate Sale

I’m certain that the “Ultimate” sale is totally different than their usual “One Day” sales, though I cannot tell you how, because… ummm… well, because I don’t know. Oh! Because it’s on Thursday, maybe! Regardless, hop on over to Macy’s if you want to save 20% on most everything—above already marked-down prices—and 15% off everything else.

Just use coupon code ULTIMATE. Obviously.

This is an excellent time to buy yourself something pretty to wear for the holidays, both because 1) apparel’s on sale and there’s the coupon, and 2) you will feel super proud of yourself come Thanksgiving that you already have something nice to wear without having to go shopping. (Related: Then you can buy new shoes, as a reward. See how that works?)

On the savings life, and how you can win

So, those of you who were around last year will remember that I went to Save Up in 2010, too, and once again, I am humbled by this event—so many smart folks, all in one place, all sharing their goal of spending smarter and helping others do the same. It’s pretty awesome.

One of the things we’re all being asked to do today is share our savings stories with our readers. Me, I’ve always had my story pretty well outlined on my About page, but I don’t think it’s all that remarkable. (Hey, the sad reality is that half of all marriages end in divorce, and financial difficulties in the aftermath are practically a given.) There are some folks here who’ve dug themselves out of much worse holes than I’ve ever been in, and you can tune in to see some of their presentations later today. There will be a couponing class presentation at 3:15 Eastern, and savings stories start at 4:15 Eastern.

And here’s the best part: If you RSVP through this link before those sessions, you’ll be entered to win an iPad 2! Let’s get someone from Want Not winning that baby, please—I want bragging rights. (And also to come over and play with it after you get it.)

A different Gap than the one I fell in

Did you miss me yesterday? I really thought I was going to be able to post while I was traveling, but the day kind of got away from me. I’m now coming to you live (because coming to you dead would be… weird) from New York City. Bless my heart, right? I feel like a country bumpkin in this town, but I’m thrilled to be here for Save Up 2011 (and I’ll be telling you some more about that a bit later on).

Anyway! Posting may be a bit light today and tomorrow, but I did see that today only, you can take 30% off at Gap with coupon code GAPLINE. The usual restrictions apply, but it does work on sale items.

And I promise to try not to disappear on you again today. Actually, I’ll be back in just a bit with some information on how you can win some goodies from Savings.com later today.

And the Creek does it again

Today (Wednesday, October 12th, 2011) only, Coldwater Creek is taking half off all items at checkout, automatically. Even clearance and Outlet items! That’s pretty enticing, but here, let’s make it better—you can also use coupon code FBSMILE for free shipping.

Half off and free shipping? They’re playing my tune. (It sounds like big savings.)

I don’t know why, I just know I like it

So, remember how on Monday I was all “Oh wow, they’re doing free shipping today at 6pm.com, hurry!”? I thought it was a one-day thing. For Columbus Day. Because nothing says “hooray for subjugating the indigenous people of our country” like free shipping on shoes. But they’re still doing the free shipping, so I’m a little confused.

But happy. Now it’s only my husband who’s confused. (“Do you really need this many shoes?” Silly, silly man. Of course I need this many shoes.)

If you love peanut butter, stock up

I keep meaning to mention this, and keep getting distracted by other, shinier things: Apparently the price of peanuts has more than doubled this year, thanks to drought and other unfavorable weather conditions. That’s bad news for those of us who love peanut butter, as you can expect the prices to start rising any day, now.

I just stocked up at Amazon; our new favorite is Skippy Natural Super Chunk, and I say that as someone who was a devoted Jif lover for years. It’s currently just under $2/jar when you buy the 6-pack via Subscribe & Save. The Skippy Natural Creamy, Natural Creamy with Honey, Roasted Honey Nut Super Chunk and Regular Creamy are around the same price, too.

Am I going to have 12 jars of peanut butter in my pantry? Why yes. Yes, I am. I’m also still going to have peanut butter when the price spikes, so I’m okay with that.

Give peace a chance

I just stumbled across “The Peace Book” by Todd Parr on Amazon and it made me smile… and that was even before I saw that it’s marked down to just $2.73 and is eligible for the 4-for-3 promotion.

This is the sort of thing that—when my kids were younger—I would’ve grabbed a few of for the gift closet, and doled out as classroom gifts and such. Buy four and they’re about $2/pop.

And who doesn’t like peace? Don’t answer that.
