It’s savings for lunch at Banana Republic
I almost missed this, today—it’s time for another Power Lunch at Banana Republic! From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (in your own local time, apparently, though that seems kind of complicated for them), you can use coupon code BRPOWER to both save 40% on your order and get free economy shipping.
Hey, 40% off brings most of their stuff down from “Are you smoking crack??” to “Maybe for a special occasion,” so I’m diggin’ it.
[Thanks for the reminder, Brittany!]
30 movies for your sports-lovin’ guy
If you’re still scrambling for that perfect Father’s Day gift for own father or your significant other, I have a suggestion for you. Right now Amazon has the ESPN Films 30 for 30 Limited Edition Collector’s Set available for just $50 shipped. Now, that’s for DVDs, and I went looking for a Blu-ray version and they don’t have it in stock.
However, Best Buy has the Blu-ray version of this set in stock for just $10 more—arguably an even better deal because of the increased quality (and the fact that Blu-ray discs usually cost a lot more).
Does that special guy in your life need thirty sports-themed films? I can’t answer that. Only you can. But if the answer is yes, now you have two fairly economical ways to make it happen.
Maybe tomorrow they’ll pretend not to know you
Remember when those so-called “Friends & Family” sales really were exclusive? You only got an invite in the mail (in the mail, in an envelope and everything!) if you were a credit-card holder at the particular store or maybe if you shopped there a certain amount? On the one hand, I have to appreciate how the Internet has made these sales available to everyone, but on the other—because I have an overactive imagination—now I sort of picture one big happy family on the sale days, and then the minute the sale ends, they slam the doors shut and claim to have never seen you before in their lives.
(No, it really isn’t easy being me. Why do you ask?)
Ahem. Anyway! Today’s the last day of the Friends and Family sale at Bon-Ton, which means that you can use coupon code FRIFAMJUN11 to save 25% on almost everything (some exclusions apply; see site for details). Furthermore, shipping is automatically free on your $99+ order, or stack coupon code 2011ELITEGUEST for free shipping on your $50+ order.
And I’m sure they’ll still like you tomorrow, too. Just, you know, 25% less.
I always go back to Lands’ End
Sometimes it takes me a little while, but sooner or later I’m always lured back over to Lands’ End by the siren song of the Overstocks. (That and the quality, of course. Do your kids wear school uniforms? Shop Lands’ End. You’ll pay more but the stuff you buy will last and last. My daughter wore a couple of LE polos for two years and has now passed them down to her brother, whereas every other brand seems to disintegrate after a year of use. Heh.)
Anyway, if you’re shopping Lands’ End today or tomorrow, let me help: Use coupon code MJ11 with PIN 4423 to get $10 off $50+ and free shipping on your order. Every little bit helps, but that should actually help quite a lot. But don’t delay—it expires tomorrow.
Treat your pooch right
Anyone who knows me knows that my dog is spoiled beyond all reason. She probably eats better than my kids. (Hey, it’s not my fault. One, just look at that face, and two, she’s not nearly as picky as the children.) So when the nice folks from DOGSWELL contacted me, they knew exactly what to say—instead of pitching me, the adorable PR rep 1) addressed the email to Licorice, 2) offered to “do her up right” with some DOGSWELL goodies, and 3) complimented my shoes. We are now BFFs.
The catch with Licorice, of course, is that I only feed her premium grain-free food, because she’s a delicate flower who has skin problems when she eats wheat (just like her mom… which is a little spooky). They said no problem at all, because their newest line of food, Nutrisca, is grain-free! And by the way, would I also like to give some away?
For this contest, three lucky Want Not readers are each going to receive a 4-pound bag of the latest DOGSWELL Nutrisca kibble flavor, salmon and chickpea. As a reminder, I really don’t fool around when it comes to what I feed my dog, so before agreeing to do this I went and looked up Nutrisca on my favorite dog food analysis site, but was unable to find any info (maybe it’s too new?), but after some hunting around I found this analysis, which makes me feel confident that this truly is a premium food for your beloved pal. In other words, yes, I am going to feed it to my own precious baby.
Want to win some of this cool kibble for your canine friend? First go review the contest rules and regulations, then come on back here and leave a comment on this post by 8:00 a.m. Eastern time (that’s 5:00 a.m. Pacific) on Thursday, June 16th, 2011 for a chance to win. Winners to be determined by random number generation and whether or not you retrieve your comment and bring it back to me when I yell “Fetch!” (Not really. But the mental image is amusing me.)
Ready? Go!
Another day of free shipping at Children’s Place
I don’t know what’s going on there, lately, but I’m not arguing—once again, Children’s Place is offering free shipping all day, on every order. It’s for today only, but it seems like they’re doing this sort of thing more and more often.
If you’ve ever ordered from them before, check your email; they’re mailing out individual “mystery codes” for additional savings, for up to 50% off. If you don’t have a code, use H9D2011 for an additional 15% off, anyway.
This was handy for me, because the last time they did this I bought my kid some new shorts in size 10-12 (which I thought was his size). They arrived and they’re so gigantic, they’re actually even too big for his 13-year-old sister. I tried again today with the 7-8s, so hopefully that’ll work a little better. (Thank goodness the shorts are only $4.)
Hello, McFly? Another Blu-ray deal!
After you nab Despicable Me for the kiddos, those of us who saw the original back in the day in the actual theater (after, of course, falling in love with Michael J. Fox a little while watching him on Family Ties on TV) may want to grab this Back to the Future Trilogy Anniversary Edition at Amazon, also for just $15. This one has all three movies on Blu-ray, plus all kinds of bonus features, and then digital copies of everything as well. And it has free shipping, even if it’s the only thing you buy.
I suspect if I made my kids watch it, they’d complain it was “lame,” but what do they know? This was one of my favorite movies back when I was a kid and dinosaurs still roamed the streets.
Let’s play a game
Do you remember back to when the Target Daily Deals were 1) always good and 2) somewhat thematic? (Like, it’d be all shoes! Or shirts for the whole family! And everything was half off!) I kind of miss those days.
On the other hand, their new habit of posting a random assortment of items which may or may not be a good deal has provided me with no end of entertainment. No, really. I like to play a little game called Relate These Items. So, today, for example, you should scoop up that Mr. Beer brewing kit for Dad (all dads like beer, I’m sure that’s their message there), then the kids can go play in the sprinkler while drunk Dad sprawls out in the dish chair and you sit straight-backed and disapproving in the leather parsons chair. See? Fun!
Game aside, that’s a great price on the dish chair (my kids love those), and even the brewing kit is a good $7 cheaper than Amazon’s price. Just sayin’.
Not even a little despicable
Can I just tell you how much I love this new trend of Blu-ray discs coming in 3-disc combo packs where you get the Blu-ray for home viewing, the DVD for your portable player, and the digital copy for your computer or iPod? I love it so much, especially when it’s a movie for the kids and having three different ways to watch it isn’t at all redundant—they’ll wind up doing all three.
I also love it when it’s a film I really secretly enjoyed, even though I was watching it “for the kids.” So I’m digging this deal on Despicable Me at Amazon all the more, because it’s the three versions for just $15, plus I sort of love Gru.
Hey, don’t judge me. That’s a really good deal.
Saturday deals
Goooood morning! The sun is shining! The birds are singing! And I apparently snagged a bulk deal on exclamation points!
Sorry. I’ve… had a truckload some coffee. Ahem. Let’s see what’s up today, shall we?
Over at Coldwater Creek, they’re featuring a 50% off code on the site. But we can do better than that—use coupon code FBPARTY through the 19th to get half off and free shipping on your order.
Today’s deal at Graveyard Mall is an extra 60% off and free shipping on a select assortment of items with coupon code June60ship. They have some nice brass accent pieces and some cute coasters, so take a look.
This weekend you can take 20% off your order at Eddie Bauer with coupon code DAD20. I won’t even tell if you’re not buying something for Dad. Meanwhile, over at Gap, coupon code SUMMER will take an additional 30% off sale items this weekend.
There’s tons of sneakers discounted at 6pm.com today, and their reduced shipping is still in effect—just $2.95 for your entire order!
Finally, if you’re in the mood for something philosophical, my latest post is up over at Tree.com; you can go review my pros and cons of online-only banks to see if one of them might be right for you.
