One week to ship free and save

So, you know how Toys ‘R’ Us has been running this “free shipping on $99+ of non-hardware purchases” thing for forever? This week they’re going to make it even better: Shop through June 19th, 2010, and they’ll ship all orders of $49+ for free, even ones that contain video game hardware.

If you have a bunch of kiddie shopping to do, this could be the week (and the way) to do it. Because I don’t know about you, but I would rather stab myself with a fork repeatedly than actually go into a TRU to shop, though I’m more than happy to scoop up their deals from the comfort (and relative silence) of my own home.

Honey, I’m home!

Hello, pretties! Did you have a good week while I was away? I hope you did. Me, I’ve returned to the U.S. with a load of dirty laundry, the slightest hint of a tan (the very best SPF 75 can render), and a horrible cold. Of course.

But nevermind all that. The important part is that I’m back.

The other important part is that 6pm.com appears to be celebrating my return with deals on some of my favorite brands—7 For All Mankind, Madden, Nike, Enzo Angiolini… I mean, it’s possible they didn’t do it just for me, but I’m going to pretend they did.

It’s good to be back.

Oh Friday, slow down

I can’t believe it’s Friday. Today is our last port of call, and tomorrow we sail back to Florida. On Sunday, we disembark and my first cruise will be only a memory. I can’t wait to tell you more about it, next week. It’s been quite the experience.

While I run off to deposit my oldest for her last shore excursion (she’s going ziplining, with people who—unlike her mother—don’t find heights terrifying), you might want to check out the Amazon Friday Sale, pitiful though it may be, today.

I’ll try to come back and look around some more after I finish making my baby promise she won’t fall out of a tree, or anything.

For your Thursday pleasure

I’m about to go on an “expedition” that includes a trek through some caves. If I’m not back tomorrow to to complain about the Amazon Friday Sale, call 911 or something, would you?

But! A few deals before I go.

Today only, save an additional 20% on over 6,500 items at drugstore.com, just because.

Also today only, Piperlime is offering 30% off “perfect poolside styles” (uh, I know, interesting label), with coupon code SIZZLE. And as always, enjoy free shipping and free returns.

Over at Sierra Trading Post, they’re offering 25% off any order through that there link, and it can be combined with code ALJUNE2KX for another 20% off $100+, too. If you’re buying a lot, that adds up to crazy savings between the two.

Today and tomorrow, save 20% at The Disney Store with coupon code FANSONLY. That’s a great way to prep for a Disney trip—save yourself big bucks over buying stuff at the parks.

And last—but not least—don’t forget to check out those Father’s Day Lightning Deals at Amazon for some cool bargains for your favorite dad.

Have a great Thursday!

Cruising for deals… literally

Did y’all enjoy reading about how to pack for a cruise? Didn’t Patricia do a great job of making it sound totally easy and doable? Just as a reminder, Patricia is a Want Not regular, extremely pretty, and a travel agent who knows a lot about cruising.

So when I asked her what I needed to know, right after she told me what to pack, she—natch—moved on to ways to save money on board a cruise ship. I was all ears. Er, eyes. I bet you will be, too. Here’s what she had to say:

Purchasing a cruise is different than so many other kinds of vacations. There is the fact that it must be paid in full months before you go, it is a big single expense that seems to come with a fair amount of sticker shock, and ultimately, there comes a point when you realize that you aren’t done paying for it despite having laid out a huge sum for your passage on the ship.

This leads to the one thing that can harden hearts in the cruise world, dealing with your on board account. You see, ships are a fairly cashless system (I can’t say completely, as you may still use real money in the casino), so you use your handy dandy room key to buy anything you need onboard—and so you might not be super mindful of how much you are spendings until on the last night of the cruise there is the moment of reckoning—when you see the bill. Will you be happy or freaked out? read more…

Is it Wednesday already?

I’m finding it very hard to keep track of time here on the ship. And I’m not even drinking. It’s something about being far away from my desk and having food put in front of me every five minutes, I think.

Oh, well. I’m sure I’ll get into the swing of this cruising thing just in time to get back. But hey—how about a few deals for you, in the meantime?

Today and tomorrow, Restaurant.com certificates can be had for 80% off with coupon code SAVE. That’s $25 of fine dining for just $2, which means you can afford that swanky new place without having to sell one of your kids.

Today’s 6pm.com deals are almost (but not quite) enough to make me wish I was at home—big savings on Reef, Simple, Born, and more. It would be wrong of me to use the expensive satellite Internet to shop for shoes, I guess.

Don’t forget to check out the Father’s Day Lightning Deals at Amazon today. Did anyone find anything good, yesterday?

Looks like another big sale is on at Kohls, and coupon code SHOP4DAD will save Kohls card holders 20%. (No Kohls card? No problem—try code NEW5864 for 10% off, anyway.) Shipping is currently free on your $75+ order.

Alright, I’m outta here… but we have some more awesome cruise advice coming up later today from the lovely Patricia, travel agent extraordinaire. Given all the great feedback on her first post (have I mentioned lately that y’all are awesome?), I think you won’t want to miss it.

Good morning from… uh… wherever we are

So, it turns out that sleeping on a giant ship that sails who-knows-where has all sorts of unexpected perks. Like, this morning my husband popped up while it was still dark out and insisted it was past 7:00 and time to get up. Only it turned out to be about 4:00. (Confusion at sea! More entertaining than when he sleepwalks at home!)

Ahem. Anyway. I have a few deals for you for today.

It turns out that today Endless is having a secret sale, and I’m missing it. Hmph. But you can save 25% on orders of $100+ on athletic and outdoor styles.

All of the Target Daily Deals are plus-size clothing, today (including a really cute swimdress), so worth a look if you’re in the market for those.

Looking for a train table? Toys ‘R’ Us has this Imaginarium train table marked down to just $42, and remember that shipping is free on your $99 order, or alternatively you may be able to order it for free in-store pick-up.

Ooooh, Amazon has the Coraline Blu-ray/DVD combo pack (particularly awesome if you don’t have a Blu-ray player yet) available yet, but you plan to get one sometime in the future.

Also at Amazon, remember the Lightning Deal craziness before the holidays? It’s baaaaaaack! In preparation for Father’s Day, keep an eye out all day for great deals for Dad. How thoughtful (and capitalistic) of them. Heh. Even better, it looks like they’re offering another free Prime trial, too.

I’m off for a day of adventure, but I know you’ll be good while I’m gone, right? You’re looking very pretty, by the way.

We made it!

Greetings from… ummm… the middle of the ocean. We’re all here, intact, and no one is sick. *knocking on wood*

Needless to say, posting will be a bit lighter this week. But! Here’s a few places you might want to stop by today:

Today’s 6pm.com deals include 70% off Steve Madden shoes, 75% off RSVP, and 60% off Patagonia.

You won’t catch me in a maxi dress, but the kids tell me they’re all the rage (usually while I’m chasing them off my lawn), and today there’s a variety of them in the Target Daily Deals, available as a buy-1-get-1 deal that works out to about $10/dress. Not bad.

I keep meaning to buy this hide-a-squirrel toy for Licorice—it gets great reviews, and is several toys in one, not to mention a steal when it drops under $7, like now—but I don’t think I’ll buy it from the middle of the ocean. Another time, for me. But maybe today, for your dog. Assuming you’re on land, that is.

Alright, I’m hoping that’ll hold you for a bit. Everyone’s behaving, right? Excellent. Stay tuned for something fun a bit later today.

Right now I’m heading out to sea

I can hardly believe it, but as you read this, I’m heading out to the Caribbean. In our case, this trip was pure luck; my father decided to take everyone on a cruise to celebrate a milestone birthday, and we said, “Wow, you are looking very handsome today. And generous. And we love you a lot. We’ll go pack.”

But lots of people actually decide to go on cruises and pay for them, too. Which is why I turned to Want Not regular Patricia Babischkin, because Patricia—in addition to being thrifty and pretty—is also a travel agent who knows a lot about cruising.

Furthermore, she was happy to talk me off the ledge when I realized there was a dinner dress code and I had to pack fancy clothes in tiny suitcases and started hyperventilating a little.

Without further ado, let me turn it over to Patricia, who was kind enough to tell me—and you—some trade secrets about packing for a cruise. Spoiler alert: It’s because of her that I took several pairs of shoes out of my suitcase. I know. read more…

Saturday deals

Good morning! How much coffee does it take to get the entire family out the door with everything they need for a week before 7:00 am? I’m about to find out.

While I do that, you should go shopping. Because I’d rather be, you understand.

Running out of Annie’s Homegrown products from the last time they were on special? Don’t worry, they’re back at Amazon, this time with 10% off using coupon code ANNIE736, and then another 15% off and free shipping when you purchase via Subscribe & Save. My kids love their snacks, and I love that they make all sorts of yummy stuff without chemicals and fillers.

Also at Amazon: I love these Crayola Telescoping Towers, and this one filled with Pipsqueaks (little markers) is marked down to $8.50 and would make a great gift closet item. What kid has too many markers? Exactly.

There’s a big sale going on at Kohls this weekend (I know, a shock, right?), with $.99 shipping on every item. Good time to buy big items, bad time to buy a dozen individual pairs of socks. Code SUMMER15 will take 15% off your purchase this weekend, but I think you need a Kohls charge card to make it work.

I’m kind of eyeing that swimsuit in today’s Target Daily Deals. (Really, I want the netbook, but the swimsuit is a little more budget-friendly.) Don’t forget to try code TCJ09UAB for an additional 10% off there.

Plenty of yesterday’s deals are still good today, by the way, so don’t forget about those. As for me, I have to go rally the children. And then we’re off!

A couple quick notes: I owe you contest winners from this week, and that’s coming. (Given that I can’t ship prizes until I get back, I was in no particular hurry on that one.) Also, I will still be posting (from the cruise ship! maybe poolside?) while I’m gone, although my schedule will no doubt be lighter. To make it up to you, I have a few fun extras planned for this upcoming week I think you’re not going to want to miss. Pinky swear.
